    Syma is on fire since the beginning of the year :)
    Another nice little quad from them!

    Ryan,
    The little button on x11 is for pictures, say all the quads are hangin out and want to capture the moment. ...not good for selfies.

    The video application for small quads are basically useless in my application. There is simply not enough stabilization for non nausea inducing video viewing.
    I do however compliment on how you pilot the quad...you are one of the best.
    Finally, your reviews are just great. One of the best.
    Would you review the 350 qx3?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      Joel Dino I agree. These micro camera quads are purely novelty, and certainly not usable for any sort of serious video use. Thanks for the compliments! :D I want the 350 QX3, but it's pretty expensive. We'll see. :)

    I really like how this quad is so much better AND cheaper than my Hubsan X4 HD. The Hubsan cost me around $70 on eBay. I'd say $38 for the X-11 (with the coupon above) is a STEAL!

    I love your videos, I'm a complete n00b as far as quadcopters go, but you have definitely helped me figure out where to start. I do believe this will be my first camera quad, and I'll definitely order the X5 transmitter and probably the X5 itself after I get used to the smaller ones. Many thanks for all your videos, good work!

    Aw nuts, I ordered a X11 and a cheerson cx-10a..... I already regret the cx-10a because of the slower yaw and loss of high rates (which i learned from frequent flyer rc) and now i find out there are three versions of the x11?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      refusedchad I have been getting a lot of conflicting info about the X11 and its various reversions. I think the latest word is that they all have the same yaw, and the people that were claiming to have a faster yaw were using modded Devo radios.

    Great review Ryan, haven't tried the x11 outside yet, looks much faster than what I can do in my basement. Is that the power plant for UIUC in the background there? I lived in Champaign for 6 years while in school.

    Where to get the one with the faster yaw rate? Like you kinda said, bit faster yaw rate, x5c-1 radio, gear driven props, long flight times, how can this not be(come) best mini quad!?
    (it kinda sucks, all those different versions sold under the same product name while they fly kinda different imo
    )

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому +1

      Hirzo Schuurman Yeah, I don't like this trend of having slightly different variations under the same name. It makes it really hard to know what you are getting. And I have no idea where to get the X11 with the faster yaw, and actually, since posting my review on RCGroups, now there is some discussion that there may not actually be one with a faster yaw, but that it was caused by people using modded Devo radios. :/

  • @bfun1088
    @bfun1088 9 років тому +1

    Hey Ryan, I saw your posts and this review on RCGroups today. Based on the analysis chart I did for the X11 Thread, the answer to the maximum yaw rate question is: 24 RPM with either the X11 or X5C-1 controller, no difference. The only way that we know of so far to achieve the higher yaw rate of 36 RPM is with Deviation on a Devo TX. The current board revision is V3, one of which I received a few days ago. And unless someone stumbles across a seller with more than 2 month old stock which is probably unlikely now, they shouldn’t have to worry about getting anything older.
    As for the other big question about where to get an absolutely, positively verified compatible version of the X5C-1 TX (there are at least 3 versions that we’re aware of and only one is) as a standalone purchase to use with the X11, we are still working on that. I have inquiries into about a half dozen sellers at the moment and I have one on order now that looks very promising, so hopefully I should be able to answer this soon if no one else does first. I’ll post about it on the RCGroups X11 thread when I do. Meanwhile, anyone buying the current X5C-1 quad kit will get the right one with it.
    Now, if we can just get past this issue with the defective motors...speaking of which, can I have some of your luck...it doesn’t look like you got hit with this.
    Great review as always. How cold is it there, I see you got gloves on! We’re suffering with summer like weather out in SoCal at the moment...sorry. ;-D

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      B Fun Thanks for the info bud! Yeah, I just bought an entire RTF X5C-1 to ensure I got the right Tx. A stand-alone Tx would be great though, and I'd add the link to my video if/when one is found. This video was filmed awhile ago, actually, and it wasn't that bad out yet… the weather is much worse right now. :( We hit like -7 ("feels like" -24) the other night! And just got about 6 more inches of snow this week. My outdoor flying has been put on hold for a few weeks now, but fortunately I have enough reviews stock-piled to keep releasing them until the weather gets better and I can start filming more. :)

    • @bfun1088
      @bfun1088 9 років тому

      Flyin' Ryan RC No problem, always a pleasure. I received a reply from BG today about the TX they have for sale. They say no compatibility [this time]. This would be the third correspondence I have had with someone from BG where the reply contradicts the previous reply. It's enough to make you crazy. Which I why I keep going on about absolutely, positively verified...I'll keep you posted. Meanwhile, 7 below! Ouch, that's don't get caught out or it will kill you weather. Stay warm. ;-)

    @BartSzczepanski76 9 років тому +1

    Thanks to Your recommendation I've bought two of them - X11 & X11c and both are more than great! Thank You! :) Honestly, this one flies so much better than my old Hubsan X4 H107c - more precise.. Comparing to H107c all is better in X11c, except quality of plastic (Hubsan does look better), low voltage state (on Hubsan I have much more time to safely bring my mini-quad back and land safely), quality of the camera/recording (on my Hubsan with 0.3mpix on board I can make better videos, surprisingly - maybe there is no "hd quality" like on Syma X11c but I also can't see these "waves" on screen when recording with my Hubsan X4).
    Overall - amazing machine! Highly recommended!!! :)
    Aha, one more thing - because of the small weight (Hubsan H107c weights twice as much) flying even on the light wind is almost "mission impossible" ;)

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

    Ryan,
    I would love to get an upgraded X11 with the better yaw rate. I agree with you, fantastic quad but with a slightly faster yaw rate it would be close to perfect. Is there a variation in the name of the upgraded X11? How would I know I am ordering/receiving the upgraded version?
    Thanks!

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому +1

      Joshua Weilbacher As far as I know, there is no way of telling which version is which. And after I posted this review on the RCGroups thread, apparently there is now confusion as to wether or not a faster version actually exists, or if it was just people using Deviation modded Devo radios, and that's what allowed a faster yaw rate… :/

    Got mine today, flew it a bit with the camera, then opened it up, removed the camera (soldered on) and the battery holder, and flew it a bunch more with just the bottom cover empty. The battery sits in there fine still, and it flies really well without all the extra weight (4 screws, camera and battery frame/holder). I got 12:22 flight time out of one of my 380mAH batteries. It was pretty fun. :) I'll probably put the camera back in again some day, and I wanted that option which is why I grabbed this one over the X11. Thanks to your reviews, I've purchase 5 quads in the last couple months. :) haha

    Hey Ryan, can you please tell me how to adjust the trim. My quad seems to fly backwards and by just pressing the buttons isn't fixing the problem. The manual says: "Keep pressing the button B, (which is the far left button) then switch on the power of the transmitter. Enter into the Trimming & Resetting Mode.
    Those small buttons are suppose to now work, unless you're in trimming mode? If so how do you properly get into that mode, thanks in advance.

    Thanks for this video. I just took the X11C that my wife bought me out of the box. Got it charged up and tried a very initial test flight in our rather tight backyard which has other structures nearby a large tree which made me more trepidatious. I want to go to a more open field so I can get used to the different directionals on the controller, I really just had it ascend a few yards at most just now- other directional movement seemed like too much for the tight yard. I own a tiny RC helicopter with the opposing twin blades and I cruised that thing around our living room but I feel the huge increase in power and speed with this drone and I need practice! I'll let you know if I have real specific technical Q's.

    Hey Ryan, great videos, I gotta give it to you, you speak well and provide all the good info! I specially like that you put the drone's video on the big picture and your personal camera in the small PiP, so we get the real quad's experience...
    I have a question, how did you manage to bind the X5c-1 transmitter to the X11C? I just got myself X5SC (the X5c-1 with headless mode) and the X11c but I can't seem to be able to bind the X5SC transmitter to the X11C quad :/ Is there some special procedure to follow? The usual turn TX on, turn quad on, throttle all the way up & back all the way down didn't work for me:/ I wonder if the X5SC is somehow different :/ but I really don't like the X11C's remote, so I hope I can figure this out.. Thanks for your help!

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      Martin The Orange Thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad you like my videos! Syma uses several different protocols, and I think the X5SC is a different protocol than the X5C-1/X11C. :( I have the X5SC-1 and it works with the X11C. So the X5SC and X5SC-1 must use different protocols, for some reason. :(

    • @TheOrangeMaster
      @TheOrangeMaster 9 років тому

      Flyin' Ryan RC Darn, so you just simply used the same procedure on the transmitter, as you would to "its own quad", correct?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

    D'oh! I should've waited. I ordered my X11C at GearBest before this review. So I didn't get the discounted price. :-( Seems like a great micro judging by your excellent review Ryan. I really like how your reviews include 'extras' that other reviewers often leave out. Like for example: How to reset accelerometers, different revisions, etc. I've ordered two X-11's; one with camera and one without. The one without I'm going to try to add fpv gear to. I've seen it done with other micros but not the X11. Wish me luck.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому +1

      Partok81 Thanks! That's why my reviews usually take longer to come out than other people's… I may not be the first out, but I try my best to be the most thorough and correct in my observations. Some people review a product before they even fly it, which is just absurd to me. I need to have at least 8-10 fights before I review something (when possible… of course that's not always doable, but at least one or two flights at the very minimum).

    LOVE your videos! I could really use some advice. I want a small quad, I'm on a $40-$50 budget, but I could go up to $70 if it makes a BIG difference in quality. It MUST have a removable battery! I also need it it to come from a US warehouse (I'm very impatient, lol) . I was teetering between a Proto X or a Hubsan X4 H107L, but now I've noticed that there are other quads like this similar to the X4. This X11 (non camera version) is about 10 bucks cheaper than an entry level X4 model on amazon, and it sounds like it has better flight time!? Do x4 batteries work on the X11?You appear to own every mini quad in existence, so I knew I should come to you! What would you recommend?? Thanks in advance!

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      Frank Pirolo Well, do you have any flying experience? If not, the X11 would probably be the easiest to fly. And yes, X4 batteries work with the X11. I have a "Top 5 Quads Under $50" video for some other suggestions too. Proto X has a removable battery, if you really need to, but it's not intended to be easily swapped between flights, etc. As for US warehouse, I don't track that, so I don't know what's available in that regard.

      I.J.R V The X11C is still very stable, but a bit heavier, so it's not quite as easy to get it to hover in place like the X11. And, haha, yeah this can be a very expensive hobby!

    When I saw your review of the first X11 I thought I might've made the wrong choice with a camera-version Hubsan X4.. Then I see this review and I'm happy again to know that the X4 line changes more as the weight changes, thanks much! (also, is it just me or do most X4 videos look at least a little better then most other 2MP camera quads?)

    Syma Toys made a great decision keeping the Transmitters common across their quads. The X11c is my current #1 choice. Muscle memory is such a huge part of user experience. Whenever they release an FPV version let us know ASAP please.

    • @theimacman

      Drones Over Louisville Except the radio protocol within the radios is not at all common… they use about 4 or 5 different protocols, within the same looking transmitters, which makes for a real mess. The X5C and X5C-1 use different protocols, for example, but the radios look the same. And the X5C Tx works with the X2, but the X5C-1 Tx works with the X11 and X12. It'll be interesting to see if Syma enters the FPV market. I'm sure they will. They are usually a bit behind on trends, but they usually come out with superior products when they finally do hit the market. :)

    How do you do the video in real time? For someone new to quadcopters that has not even flown outside yet does the x5c-1 transmitter make it easier? I am still learning to do turns. I guess that tells you how bad I am at quad's. How much time would you say is the normal learning curve? Thanks in advance

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      +setagluap52 I'm not sure what you mean about the video in real time. As for the transmitter, it really comes down to personal preference, and if you're new, you might not know what's best for you yet. I use the "pinching" method of flying, where I use my thumb and pointer on each had to pinch the sticks. However, it is becoming more and more popular these days to simply use the pad of your thumbs on the top of the stick, like a video game controller. So, for thumb flyers, the video game style controller may be better, but for pinchers the traditional hobby-grade style controller, with sticks, is better. Hard to say on the learning curve, since that will obviously vary from person to person. I have a video with some tips to help you practice though: ua-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/v-deo.html

    Hi
    Thanks for the help. I need all I can get. I am not familiar at all with quadcopters, or how to fly them or anything else, so any suggestions you have are great.
    I do not quite understand what you mean by the pinch method of flying. That sounds as good as any method. In fact, I was not aware of why methods are necessary. I think i sort of do but it is a little hard to understand.
    Thanks for your advice I will try and see if it helps. I have not even tried to fly outside yet, but I have trouble using both the throttle and flying at the same time
    That is something I definitely need to get used to

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      +setagluap52 Definitely try my suggestions in my beginners video... that should help with the muscle memory and get you ready to move on to more advanced flying. As for thumbs vs pinching, I've never made a video about that... maybe I should. Though, I'd have to imagine someone out here on YT has made a video about it. To me, pinching is more precise, but I've definitely seen thumb flyers do quite precise flying too, so I think it's really just comes down to what works best for you.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      wowiezowiepowie Gear-drive is more efficient, so you get longer flight times, and the larger props make for better stability. But, the gears are susceptible to damage and can be a bit slower to react to throttle changes. Whereas direct-drive is very fast and reactive, but less efficient and less stable due to the smaller prop size.

    Thank you for this review. Looks like a lot of fun! The main reason I haven't purchased one of these micro drones or even the version the looks similar and is priced closer to 100 to 200 dollars is because built-in camera doesn't take photos, just shoots video. I know I can use an app like stillshot to grab a pic but at 2mp quality, the pic might not to be good enough. I'd like one to take occasional community photos.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому +1

      Bill Cobb This camera, and several like it, can indeed take photos, but they are far from good enough to be used for any sort of serious or professional use, and not having a video transmission means you really have no idea what you're actually taking a pic or video of. For that you would need a much larger quad, with a 3-axis gimbal, and some sort of FPV video transmission, and at least a GoPro camera. These are good for practicing, though, and working your way up to that sort of aerial photography/videography platform.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 років тому

      hilema41 Well, that's a pretty complex question, really. Video quality-wise, you would definitely be better off with the 808 camera. But, due to it being heavier, you are likely to kill motors faster and have worse flight performance while carrying it. I like the Blade 200 QX and Mobius Action Cam combo, but that's quite pricey. The Syma X5C and HT F801C are pretty good options for standard built-in 2MP cameras. So far, none of the 5MP cameras have given great results, as they seem to be plagued by jello wobble.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 років тому +1

      There is no way to answer that question, for several reason; first, I don't know the prices of every quad on the market, so I don't know what else there is in this price range. Second, "best" is relative and depends entirely on what sort of features you are looking for. Third, if you're looking for performance, then I wouldn't suggest one with a camera. You can get a quad that is either good for aerial video, or good at performance, but rarely will you find one good at both. And, lastly, if you are a beginner, you need to start with a model that you can learn to fly on, so performance isn't exactly something that should be of concern until you are good at flying.
