I personally always saw the earth mothers as simply being incredibly ancient spriggans. Their bodies are dark because the bark that their bodies are made up of has become petrified, hence the name "earth" mother. However, with age comes wisdom, and so the earth mothers are far more powerful than their younger counterparts. As to the purple glow, there a bunch of different possibilities. Perhaps, rather than the green mosses and leaves that the lesser spriggans have domain over, the earth mothers associate more with rare funguses and vegetation found deep underground like those in Blackreach. It could also be that the earth mothers utilize a form of nature magic completely separate from the standard spriggans, purple being a closer match to the pallet of storm atronachs, which, as we know, also are quite rock-like in appearance.
Theory: Frost giants were prevalent in the northern parts of Skyrim however Elven expansion and early human settlement drove them to extinction in all but the most secluded place in Tamriel, the Forgotten Veil. Bear in mind it's the last sanctum of the Snow Elves, all one of them.
One theory I like about Lurkers (which can support them not being entirely Daedric) is that they actually belong to Hircine, and are possibly another one of his twisted versions of animals and beast, like a werefish. That said, I can't say that explains the reason why they use tentacles. Maybe due to spending too much time in Apocrypha?
Hermaeus Mora can’t create, only accumulate - so my thought was always that Lurkers were corrupted people who get stuck in his realm. Similar to the seekers, except they didn’t get stuck in apocrypha because they were looking for knowledge.
GingerGuitarist great Theory, basically saying that Mora punished those who seek the power of the black books without respecting the knowledge contained within them
Maybe the lurkers are combination of two tamerielic creatures, merged and corrupted by the magic of herma mora. Maybe his wild imagination had him combine a giant with a slaughterfish, and maybe this is the event which happened for the giants when they fled for the mountains and returned afterwards changed (giants disappearing in the mountains is Micheal Kirkbird narration if I'm remembering correctly). Guess only Todd Howard knows, and well.. his lips are sealed.
First time i saw a Lurker he was running to me from behind, i freaked out after turning and closed the game.... How the fuck did they put my mother in law in the game???
Personally i always theorized that the reaper was some type of forgotten daedra or even daedric prince that was sealed away by the ideal masters when they took over the soul cairn part of oblivion.
An actually good and informative list. I had no idea about the Reaper or his origins and I didn't know that banish daedra doesn't work on Lurkers. Maybe Bethesda just overlooked it? Does it work on Herma Mora's other servants?
Maybe frost giants look like that because the ones in the forgotten veil seem to travel alone, where the ones native to Skyrim focus on herding and stuff, maybe the giants are just becoming more advanced, domesticating animals and such, and because they kill mammoths and wear the fur, and the fur on their body wasn’t necessarily
Ermm... Spriggans are mentioned quite a bit. The priestess that asks your help to restore the Guildergreen in Whiterun talks about Nettlebane - a blade for sacrificing Spriggans. Valdr was attacked by Spriggans and says he never believed they existed. If you harm the Eldergleam, you will be attacked by Spriggans. They're pretty much Kyne's agents, protectors of the natural world.

Hey Nate just wanted to say hi hope you're having an amazing summer and everything.
Werebear's, Werewolves... Skyrim needs more Wererabbits.
Geronimo!
@@joshuahadams Playing as Hutch would be the best thing ever. You could create a sword or a potion and he would say, "I'm inventing mostly."
Only way to kill one is with the Holy hand grenade
Are we just going to let the whole “Earth” issue for Earth Mothers pass?
Earth as in dirt maybe? Not ‘Earth’
Most scary monster? *That damn snowtroll on the way to High Hrothgard.* that guy still hunts my nightmares and was stronger than any dragon.
Lol that bunny ok?
Looks like it’s been possessed.
An actually good and informative list. I had no idea about the Reaper or his origins and I didn't know that banish daedra doesn't work on Lurkers. Maybe Bethesda just overlooked it? Does it work on Herma Mora's other servants?
I'm still gonna fight em I'm a chaotic evil in skyrim
Maybe frost giants look like that because the ones in the forgotten veil seem to travel alone, where the ones native to Skyrim focus on herding and stuff, maybe the giants are just becoming more advanced, domesticating animals and such, and because they kill mammoths and wear the fur, and the fur on their body wasn’t necessarily
Dude you need to play this game called Hunt: Showdown!
"Earth Mothers start spawning in at level 30!"
Nate's 2H increases in skill to 17 while swinging at one.
Bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off for him.
The Earth Mother's black aura is very daedric-like....
Its been like 2 minutes and theres already over 30 comments. Wow.
I just found something out so I was redoing the entire Dark Brotherhood questline and when you first enter the Falkreath Sanctuary you have to talk to Astrid, instead I went around her and went straight to Nazir and very special text popped up just wanted to let you know Nate
Lurkers seem like the spawns of Dagon, and I ain't talkin' 'bout Mehrunes. Lovecraft fans catch my drift. 😉
Hell yeah, just like Seekers look like spawns of Cthulhu
Lurkers are pretty much a required encounter in the deagonborn dlc since when you go to purify or whatever to the pillars you summon at least one lurker each time
