It's horrendous to see how that "mother" doesn't actually care for her child or his feelings. She just wants to get the most out of him. Truly lamentable.
I wouldn't say doesn't care. I think she really just somehow doesn't have the ability, wasn't taught in a way to actually know, or is unintentionally blocking out the fact that she's harming him from what she said. I'm not sure if it's this or that's an act for the camera. I can't really read peoples emotions good at all.
I'm a mother of three little ones. We decided from the start no one was allowed to put pictures of our kids on the internet. Not because we're such smart parents but because we acknowledge we are the opposite and don't know the long term consequences.
"There are kids out there beating their kids and not feeding their kids" I feel I can speak for most victims of emotional abuse from a parent that we've heard that line a thousand times. From abusers, relatives, and family friends. "It could be worse" is always the excuse people use to enable the behavior of themselves or others, and I'm sick of it. Someone drowning in ten feet of water is still drowning, even if it isn't as deep as the ocean. Abuse is abuse, whether physical, mental, sexual, or (in this case) emotional. And the fact that people like her can constantly act like it's okay, continuously moving the goalposts for what counts as abuse, truly disgusts me.
Yup. And you know one day, this lady is going to be dumbfounded wondering why she doesn't hear from her son, get to see the grandkids, or why he put her in a crappy nursing home.
"As a woman I don't have much to offer without a child." Maybe it's time to get into some creative hobby then... That says a lot about her being a boring stuck up adult who had a child just for the sake of it since she didn't achieve anything worth a while in her life.
Tbh your comment answers it all, it starts when they first conceive the child because the mothers were probably young and naive and got with someone not being mature yet and not exploring their world around them or themselves so they exploit their children instead.
Some "Parents" get so fixated on their ideal little fantasy child that they get genuinely upset and throw petty little temper tantrums when kids turn out different than what they expected. It's almost like kids are people too and deserve to be able decide for themselves who they want to be, isn't it? If you're not ready for the "most difficult" child raising scenarios, please don't have children. It's just not fair to them.
That’s also the reason why a lot of parents end up being homophobic/transphobic, because that isn’t part of their stupid little fantasy future they’ve got going on.
I agree, my parents constantly ask why I'm so serious, tell me I'm too miserable looking, and ask " where their happy little daughter went". It pisses me off, I've grown up, and even as a child I was nervous, shy and only comfortable around close family and friends. They can't seem to comprehend that I'm not 5 anymore, I like different things to them, have different aspirations, and I'm not just a cookie cutter version of them. Also I'm genderfluid so... I'm not a daughter lol
“But because he isn’t 18 I still think I should make decisions for him.” It enrages me what she said, Those aren’t the type of decisions you make for your child. It’s a yes or no choice. The child even though he is under 18 can make those kind of decisions for himself. The types of choices that a mother or father makes for there under 18 child is due to safety. Example: The parent is free to say no to any multiplayer games there child gets, Let’s say the child wants Roblox. Well you have to be 12+ and let’s say the child is 7 the parent can make those decisions based on the kids age or restrictions to certain things. Because her child is a living being and can think for himself he can make his own choices and doesn’t need mommy by his side at all times to do that for him. I think it’s partly because she doesn’t know how to let go of her child and also because she’s entitled and I’m not justifying any of her actions it’s still a horrible situation. But I think the saying ‘every child needs a parent but not all parent deserves a child.’ Comes in handy to this situation.
I like people like danTDM, his son Asher is extremely young so dan does his absolute best in hiding Asher’s face from creeps on the internet and still remains occasionally uploading videos about him and makes sure Asher isn’t held against his will at all.
Ya and even mat pat does have his own kid in a few videos but never the main focus like he’ll mention doing something with his kid and it gave him an idea for the episode. Or his kid will show up rarely in the video my favorite is during his tik tok mug cake episode. He gives him a piece of cake and his kid tries it then gives it back.
I totally agree with her that the fact that faking her child emotion for views is not as bad as beating and/or starving the child BUT child abuse is child abuse. I can't go out there beating a person half dead and the go on and say "at least I didn't kill him, plz praise me like the Saint that I am". There's no but in this matter and it's 100% undefend able
Well, they say that feeding children junk food until obese is child abuse, which I agree. That kid's gonna grow up as manipulative ass if it didn't stop.
This cannot be an isolated incident. With how cookie cutter identical these family channels are, guaranteed so many others are putting their children through the same thing. The exploitation alone is posted online for everyone to see so there's no reason to doubt that this kind of coaching and emotional @buse is happening too.
I think this phenomenon goes beyond UA-cam and has been a complex issue to deal with ever since it became possible to make money off of children through fame. There are countless Hollywood stories of child stars being used and abused by adults who should know better, hell its so prevelent you could make a UA-cam channel dedicated to such stories. This is not saying we shouldn't try to mitigate this problem, but mostly just to point this behavior goes back even before UA-cam.
In my opinion because the platform is so saturated for new creators you are forced to break morals like 1000 subscribers turns into 1 million subscribers you’ve gotta stay relevant
If your child becomes famous online, whether with good or bad intentions, they can’t undo that if they want a different life when they are old enough to decide for themselves. Social media is a brutal place for kids, and it’s only getting worse. It’s hard enough for adults to handle the addictive nature and psychological impacts of positive AND negative social feedback, let alone kids. I hope more research and education is available before my children are old enough to start exploring it on their own.
Plus she need to realize that children are often shortsighted and may not understand the consequences of their actions. Just because a child feels happy now doing something doesn't mean that they won't regret it in the future or that it's even good for them.

The fact that she completely ignored her child's option to let the viewers choose made a lot of people mad. This is so well researched and so well put. As a child therapist, I can attest to parent’s actions directly affecting their children in the long run. Emotional abuse is abuse, there’s no excuse and no justification
Each of these stupid mommy bloggers need to realize one thing: They are a parent FIRST, a content creator SECOND. Your kids are not a tool to be used for wealth and fame. If these family bloggers can not figure that out, then they should not be allowed to raise their children. What they do really is a form of abuse and I feel bad for the children of these wack jobs.

I won't let my daughter watch things like "Ryan's World." Not only is it creepy and manipulative but the family dynamics displayed should not be idolized.
I used to watch a family channel called "The Saccone-Jolys" around 2013. I unsubbed/ unfollowed them maybe 2 years later, because once they moved from Ireland to England and got signed to an agency, things started to change (like what typically happens with all UA-camr's), but this was different. Every post on social media or parts of their vlogs incorporated having their children model, or use a product that was a part of an ad campaign. And then the other thought, which I have in general for all family channels, is how they've basically implemented this "lifestyle" in these kids lives since birth, and that's all they are gonna know-- rather than enjoy being a child and not have to stop for the camera, do retakes or perform for an ad and such. It could have long-term affects on them in their teen and adult years cause that's all they know.
My heart broke when they said "it's still up to me" despite being told no by their child. As an adult that likes to keep my life private, it really affects my relationship with my mom when she takes pictures of me and I have to remind her not to post them.
Not to mention, "I'm proud of my child, and so I want to post pictures online." Like, mom, I honestly do _not_ care how proud you are of me, I _don't_ want pictures of my face online! Some guy I went to school with as a kid and met briefly again as an adult out in public found me on Facebook through her, started messaging her, and found my address and even sent me a letter, like, a _physical_ letter through the mail, and I _never_ gave him any of that information. It really gave me a scare, so I _told_ my mom to stop posting pictures of me on Facebook, and yet she _still_ does, even after this happened! I literally remember right after this guy started messaging her, and she asked me who he was, I told her what happened, who he was, and then I told her to stop posting me on her Facebook, and she flat-out _refused!_ Why? Because she's _oh so_ proud of me! 🙄 Mom, this isn't about pride, this has become a safety issue, _WAKE UP!!!_
Family vlogging isn’t always abusive, but the thing is over time even if you think it’s just a fun hobby it can easily turn into something worse.Overall family channels in essence shouldn’t exist because it’s literally recording your kids for money.
Agreed. The only family vlogging channels that I can think of that aren’t abusive are The Tube Family, Family Fun Pack, FV Family, What’s Up Woods and White House on the Hill (the last one is more of a farming vlogging channel). It’s sad to see that the majority of these family channels hide lots of dark things, mainly child abuse and trauma.
Even if certain family channels aren’t abusive, they’re still gross for putting their children’s lives on blast for millions of strangers when they can’t give informed consent
Yeah I think the root of problem isn't the individual channels, but the factors that make unethical channels more likely to succeed, creating a toxic environment where ethical family channels are few and far between. There are ways to make ethical family channels, but it's incredibly easy to not respect your children's privacy, to the point where I just don't think there should be channels based solely on family vlogging. The only context filming your kids seems harmless is if your channel is based on something else, and this is just a small fun part of the video, like how smarter every day did when filming a video on how people track sound.
i think it's important to remember that these abusive behaviours don't need family vlogging to exist. neither of my parents posted my childhood online, but they consistently used me to achieve their own end goals, and that justification of abuse that you brought up is far too familiar to me. if anything, i'm kinda jealous of the kids who get vlogged because there's documentation of the parent's behaviour, whereas my parents used me for their own gains and it took me and my siblings to figure it out for ourselves, and to be up against the world thinking we were over reacting because emotional abuse can be so easily obscured from general view.
If it means anything to you and no one else has spoken these words before: I'm sorry for the pain as well as trauma such a horrid occurrence has left you after it befell your siblings and yourself. We need laws to protect children’s privacy online. Even though I myself adore baby videos and family vlogs, since I know I can’t ever have my own, this has been and is continually getting worse. People who shouldn’t be parents are using their kids for views, clicks and clout, regardless of how it may be damaging their child. If anything, having rules regarding infants (and up to preteens) on UA-cam (and all video service platforms) is something I wouldn’t be against.

The problem with posting your child online is that the child does not have the agency to say no. Even if they are offered the choice, if you parents ask something of you, especially under 12, you are gonna say yes, even if you don't mean it. But banning content about children all together doesn't work (i believe). It only hides the problem, and makes it worse.
Well, age doesn't matter! Parents should always treat their kids like normal people and not like young ones who can't make their own decisions or say no to things, that's wrong! Their parents don't control their kid like a puppet. That would be stupid. All children should have the agency to say no.
I was already posting myself when I was like seven. Most people post pictures of babies and stuff online which isn’t really a problem. Then some people forget that their kids are real people and exploit them.
@@mechaniccccc many of them too but for many children, or people just in general, if someone in authority tells you to do something, you have to do it, no matter what it is, and most children are trained that by every person in authority in their life.
I thinking the biggest problem with these Family Vloggers existing is that UA-cam enables them. The algorithm is super messed up and sees them as the right channels to push, over and over because they are families and that equals Family Friendly Content in its eyes. It rewards these parents for getting their children involved. Until UA-cam actually takes action and actively refuses to enable these Vloggers, the unfortunate truth is that they will not stop because it will always be the best viable method of making money.

Family vlog channels make me love my own mother even more. She is 60 years old and got me in her late 30s. I'm 23. She is mostly on Facebook but always asks for permission to post pictures of me online. The same goes to take pictures of me. and showing them to others. Even just mentioning my name. She has done that since I was a small child and she has respected me saying no. Seeing parents ignoring and disrespecting their kids as many family channels do, makes her mad. I'm grateful that she understand and respect the concept of privacy.
I just can imagine how much more messy my childhood would've been if my parents could've been making money out of it... You're right on the privilege of being a parent. It's also a moral responsibility, which many people forget sometimes
Yeah and I think they should’ve like thought about it or even like had a discussion before the child was born on their parenting tactics and everything else like that because this is plain abuse seriously like what the heck😢
Not only are these children shown for the world, affecting school life and making them possible targets, but the emotional damage to these children. Imagine how confusing it may be for these young children with fake scenarios and reactions. So much of your life on and for the camera. So many private moments being tapped and being unable to have moments to yourself and others will see. I couldn't imagine the stress of these poor children. They have no say in it.
Not always many children record videos of themselves when they’re like six so it isn’t always bad a lot of people post stuff of themselves. But the difference is when your parents or someone in authority makes you do it it’s different. I honestly don’t see any problem with trips and stuff being taken pictures of. My school and parents and stuff we take pictures of the fun things that we would do and post them but the difference is that they’re not forcing us to post stuff or forcing us to post personal stuff.
I relate to this so hard because around 3:18 because I literally feels like when my dad told us what to do when we recorded our videos on our channel and would end up getting mad when we kept acting wrong. (The videos are deleted on that channel but I think it’s still up since we quit because me and my siblings didn’t want to do it anymore)
I think at the latest, this will all stop when the children in the videos grow older and begin coming out about what their parents brought them into and telling everyone about how emotionally damaging it was.
"But Mom I really am crying because I'm a 9 year old boy who just found out my puppy is dying" "Likely story. Now act better." This is what we call sociopathy. Also if the person who's made that video is reading this, there are more kinds of abuse than beating and physical neglect. You're still emotionally abusing your son. And quite frankly your son would be better off if you two were living in a car than being well off doing what you're doing right now. Please read this and understand that you are doing irreparable damage to your child's psyche. He may never come to you with problems in the future because he's gonna think you're gonna film it instead of taking care of it.
I'm agree that this kind of abuse is horrible too. I wasn't beaten much or sexually assaulted in my life, but I'm still feel horribly traumatized, because of my parents ignoring my problems, even clinic depression and suicidal tendencies, because of our domestic issues, and I needed psychoterapy just to stop to be a plant, because of deep depression (I started it on my own, and still heard "You made it all up", "You better take off your pills" by parents) Now I moved from them, and I doubt that I will ever visit them by my own wish I hardly trust closest people, I have rage issues, and I'm still suicidal. I hope this video will inspire people to not encourage that content by that kind of parents, with their views
And now that we have seen Jodi Hildebrandt and Ruby Franke charged with literal torture of their kids, I think we are about to see some changes in laws about family channels.
Let gets this straight, posting media with your kids, highlighting even just them, isn't necessarily a bad thing. You may just want to show how much of an amazing kid you have with also having a digital memory. Share your favourite moments of parenting. But it's another when you exploit that for personal gain, either it is clout, money, or any other selfish thing. You shouldn't be posting your kid for you just for you to gain something out of them, but for both you and them, and especially prioritizing them. It's so shitty that people will remain narrow-minded and never change their ways, and it's usually because people are essentially sheep and blindly follow/defend them instead of getting them to actually change. This happens most of the time (if not all the time) when any scummy person is called out, but the fact that it happens so frequently is very much cause for concern. I hope anyone who comes across a situation where a youtube is accused of something sits down and thinks critically, is it right for you to continue to support that person even if the content is good? Even if the situation is debatably sketchy on the person you're supporting, it still a cause for concern and to think critically about.
I’d be ok with family channels as long as they are laws protecting the kids. Like the kids would have a third party representative/ child advocate representing the child’s best interests and needs. It’s DEVASTATING that we need something like that unfortunately people are shitty. Also at least 45-50% of income should be placed into a special trust fund so when the kid turns 18 they have access to that money. Because with the child there would be no channel and no income, same thing with Hollywood kids. Those laws need to be updated as well. Because currently the parents only have to put away 15%, even though it’s the child who’s earning the money. It’s horrible.
I’ve communicated with my parents before about things that hurt me that they’ve done, and half the time they don’t even listen because they have the mentality of “i’m the parent so i’m right”

I don't understand how people see a family channel and think everything in their life is as perfect as they show. I don't see the appeal in family channels and when info comes out about said the family channel explaining how terrible they are and still support them raises my eyebrow.
But some of these family chat it’s a literally just kids playing fun games. Of course they might be skeletons in the closet but if it’s just a bunch of kids having fun and nobody being exploited, I don’t really say too much of a problem. Especially if the kids themselves want to post the stuff and they are just being forced to do it.

Social media is a brutal place for kids, and it’s only getting worse. It’s hard enough for adults to handle the addictive nature and psychological impacts of positive AND negative social feedback, let alone kids.

Ah ye their fave is the "its still up to me". Exploitation at its finest. Consent should be valued no matter what age race gender etc
Not to mention, "I'm proud of my child, and so I want to post pictures online."
Like, mom, I honestly do _not_ care how proud you are of me, I _don't_ want pictures of my face online!
I literally remember right after this guy started messaging her, and she asked me who he was, I told her what happened, who he was, and then I told her to stop posting me on her Facebook, and she flat-out _refused!_
Why?
Because she's _oh so_ proud of me! 🙄
Mom, this isn't about pride, this has become a safety issue, _WAKE UP!!!_

I think a UA-camr who is amazing because he never shows his kid is Carlos85. He’s an every day streamer, he never shows his kids faces, even one video he had his youngest kid with him, he didn’t use face cam. More people should be like him.
Thats so nice, I wish all parents wouldve been like that
Another youtuber that I think is pretty cool are the Izzys. They don't show their kids face. It's mostly the parents doing the vlogging and the kids faces are hidden most of the time
I think Fgteev is good too. It doesn't seem like the dad forces his kids to be on camera (Like one farm video. Only one kid wanted to be on camera and the rest were at home) Not a lot clickbait (they did the solar eclipse prank but they say sorry e with how bad it affected their fans) Personal things weren't really involve (Mom had something happen. They did a serious video about that unlike the *SO SADD *CRYING*

I like how he is standing up to these things
Yea so is penguinz0 aka Moist Cr1tikal he covered it like a week or two ago
I think at the latest, this will all stop when the children in the videos grow older and begin coming out about what their parents brought them into and telling everyone about how emotionally damaging it was.

"Likely story. Now act better."
This is what we call sociopathy.
The ability for the mother to Did what she did without caring is not normal
I'm agree that this kind of abuse is horrible too. I wasn't beaten much or sexually assaulted in my life, but I'm still feel horribly traumatized, because of my parents ignoring my problems, even clinic depression and suicidal tendencies, because of our domestic issues, and I needed psychoterapy just to stop to be a plant, because of deep depression (I started it on my own, and still heard "You made it all up", "You better take off your pills" by parents)
Now I moved from them, and I doubt that I will ever visit them by my own wish
I hardly trust closest people, I have rage issues, and I'm still suicidal. I hope this video will inspire people to not encourage that content by that kind of parents, with their views

*Another day of thanking God for not making my parents be like 'Jessica'*
If you have a mom like mine your life is confusing
She doesn't allow horror/jumpscares and stuff but allows violence and gore?
WELL SAID.

You lived up your name, The discusser.

I don't know if it technically counts as a family channel, but there was a channel titled "Fantastic Adventures" that had orphaned children as the kids all under the care of an adoptive mother. However, the mother's biological daughter noticed that something was up (abuse) at some point and called authorities. The adoptive mother threw away all responsibilities of a parent so she could grab as much cash as possible from the videos she was making with the kids. The channel no longer exists, and the mother passed away.
