  • There's a lot of content on the Denali and AT4 (beautiful trucks btw), but not as much content on the SLE trim within the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD lineup. Today I point out what features are included in the SLE and what features are missing. For reference, the SLE trim is essentially one step above the "Pro" or work truck trim level. I'll also answer why I didn't buy an SLT trim.

    Bench seat is a need for the higher trim. I would have bought a at4 but no bench option

      SLT has bench seat std - it requires the SLT convenience pkg to get console/buckets. If you’re buying off the lot most dealer inventory has this pkg, but you can get it without. Interestingly, Chevy will let you add a console on LT trim, but GMC won’t on SLE

      I agree it’d be nice if all trim levels had bench option. I guess people that want denali’s don’t have a big family…

    The SLE package is all anyone needs, the higher trim levels are not worth the $20k plus. We have an SLE 2022 Yukon 3.0L and it's perfect.

    Love the way your truck is optioned out even tho it’s SLE (I love the Chevy Custom trim). It’s literally everything you need and nothing you don’t. The only thing I could add and it was mentioned below is the Upfitter switches and is that a deal breaker I don’t think so. I want to go back to 2500HD.

      Great points. I do miss those recessed floor cubbies too. The seatback cubbies sort of make up for it, but they are inaccessible with any kind of child seat.

    Just bought a Sierra 1500 Elevation with premium package and the 3L Duramax. It’s unreal how much more expensive the fully loaded Denali was with the same transmission and engine. The Denali’s in stock with same engine were $70,000. That’s $12k the same truck with extra luxury features and a bunch of chrome trim. The elevation I got has all my must haves. And I personally like the black trim style more. Heck, the one I got even has the full 360 cameras, adaptive cruise, premium sound, leather seats front and rear, spray in bed liner etc. I love my Sierra so far and have zero regrets. But I guess it depends how much you value the additional features. You can get a lot of nice features with mid trim levels and the higher ones are mostly just luxury stuff that most people won’t miss.

      I just ordered a 1500 SLT and I think that's the sweet spot. I also went with the 3.0L. But you're right about the Denali. It has way too much stuff that is totally unnecessary. For instance, if you want the sunroof it's part of a package that includes power steps. Power steps are a nightmare in winter because the slush freezes them up. Regular steps are much more practical. But the SLT I ordered has all the technology I want and none of the extras I don't want or need.

    We have very similar builds. I did a SLE 3500. One fun thing i found out is that you get fancier 18" aluminum wheels STOCK vs same options getting a 2500 and getting steel wheels. One of many things that pushed me to a 1 ton VS 3/4. The price difference was under 2000 dollars.

    you may have rain sensing wipers. Just put it one notch up from off and see if it stays on. My 23' gmc sierra 150 has it and it works pretty good.

    Thanks for the video. Any unladen mpg update?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  2 місяці тому

      I seem to be right around 13mpg unladen in mixed driving, still just under 17mpg for highway. I know it doesn't sound great compared to other vehicles, but I am very pleased considering all things. My cummins high-output was only about 3-4 mpg better, so I'm still ahead with the cost premium on diesel fuel too.

  • @charlesb4267
    @charlesb4267 2 місяці тому +2

    Definitely there are various features that the options available and ordered with/added, that a base SLE would not have had, however as you pointed out quite a few options were available to even order on that trim level if desired, some of them coming standard on the SLT although at a higher price. One item that some would want and can not get on the SLE is cooled front seats. By the way and this has nothing to do with trim levels but had that dealer ordered your truck with a block heater ?. I can only speculate that dealers in the southern states may not order a block heater as a dealer spec'd vehicle.

    • @Intwodeep902
      @Intwodeep902 2 місяці тому +1

      I was told only diesel could have the heater plug?

    • @charlesb4267
      @charlesb4267 2 місяці тому +1

      @@Intwodeep902 Oh no, the gasoline engine certainly has the option to have an engine coolant heater as well. Its just that when one goes through the process online ( not saying it would be the exact same system or experience at a dealership with a a factory order but end result would be similar ), when one chooses the diesel engine they automatically include the block heater, however if the gas engine is chosen then the option is there to chose if desired. ( this is the same on the 1500 series ... 3.0 diesel choice automatically adds the block heater, gas engine leaves the choice to you ). If you have never looked at the GM or Chev online option grouping lists, by all means go through it and yes it gets a little confusing but at the very last page which doesn't drop down its list unless you chose "Mechanical Options" it shows things like the diff gear ratio that comes with the diesel "3.42" or gas "3.73", the GVW that comes with the truck build you've chosen and then other options that can be chosen that do not base themselves on which engine you've chosen at the beginning of the whole process. Items like wanting the 220 amp alternator on the gas engine which comes standard on the diesel, or the high idle program, duel batteries with the gas engine ( that is another topic ... ) or dual alternators with either gas or diesel engine. Any vehicle dealerships up here in Alberta when ordering vehicles ALWAYS order their vehicles they will spec themselves to be on their lot with a block heater with gas or diesel. Long long ago vehicles never came from the factory with a block heater so it was left up to the dealership to install the block heater.

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  2 місяці тому +1

      Great point. I skipped engine block heater. Mainly as my truck is always in an insulated garage and not as cold in GA winters altogether. But, for only $100 it's not a bad buy at all. Had it on my last dually and used it sometimes while camping on cold mornings.

    • @charlesb4267
      @charlesb4267 2 місяці тому +1

      @@AdventureRocks Your in the northern part of Georgia correct ?, just wondered what lows you see during the winter. Back years ago I was in Gatlinburg, Smoky Mt NP and was surprised how warm it was at Christmas time, only going over the pass into NC was it fairly cold at the top with a fair bit of snow, otherwise I never encountered anything I would call cold, Nashville, Chattanooga etc all seemed like very easy winter weather. Most winters where I am we will see -40f and this winter hit -52f ( actual temperature, none of this wind chill temp they love to spew out on the tv weather segment ). There is a reason why block heaters are required here !.

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  2 місяці тому +1

      @@charlesb4267 Correct, typically only 1-2 dozen weeks below freezing max over winter here in GA so pretty mild. Great point about the engine block heaters. And for only $100 might as well have it on hand.

    I don’t think you have to go back that far to exceed the top trims. I think you can be well into the 2000s and still exceed the top trims.
    This is something GM has done well for a long time. The SLE/LT trims have been a great value for what features you get. Best in the market in my opinion.
    As for what you’re missing, probably nothing for the SLE trim. If you go by what is available on the top trims still not a lot. Front parking sensors. Memory seats. Cooled seats. Rear heated seats. Power extend mirrors. Rear view mirror camera (that might be an option for the SLE though, it is available even on the Custom Chevy trim). Heads up display. Massage seat (Denali ultimate and AT4X only though).
    That’s about it off the top of my head. I personally love your truck. I do want a center console the next go around for me so I’ll probably stick with the LT trim Chevy but I do like your specific truck.

    Is there any way to add the rear view camera for the mirror ? Like in the options ?

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  2 місяці тому +1

      Not on SLE...no rear view camera mirror option. But it's possible someone may have figured out how to order the OEM parts and add it to their truck after the fact. Probably some special programming required too?

    • @AlaskaErik
      @AlaskaErik 2 місяці тому

      The problem with newer GM vehicles is that if an electronic option was not part of the truck when it was purchased it cannot be added later because the computer systems and firmware aren't set up for it. So if it didn't come with a rear view camera mirror you can't add it on later. Your only option is to find an aftermarket system that you can install. This is why it is imperative that you order or buy a truck with every option that is important to you because that's what you're now stuck with, unless it's a simple bolt on item with no electronics.

  • @ToddRAdams1

    Will the "SLE" tag bring down resale, or trade-in value? Hard to sell options as value to resale from Truck tag, (SLE, SLT, LTZ, etc...)

    • @AdventureRocks
      @AdventureRocks  2 місяці тому +1

      Great question. I could potentially see that being the case with a generic dealer trade-in value if they focus only on trim level and neglect options. Some do that and don't bother looking at build. So in that case might just mean more negotiating skills to engage if one went the trade route. On my previous trucks it hasn't been an issue, but I sold privately on my own and marketed them to get the extra $$.

    • @AlaskaErik
      @AlaskaErik 2 місяці тому +2

      Any truck is always going to be priced at its trim level. An SLE trim will command less than an SLT or Denali trim simply because it didn't cost as much to begin with.
