    I wish more people react to this performance. Kyo always performs differently but this one has so much emotion behind it.

    Dir en Grey fans are probably the most dedicated fans in all of Japanese metal. Kyo's presence is so intense, seeing them live will kill you... I've seen them 4 times, once in the US and 3x in Japan, and am going back in November to see them 2 more times. Kyo is intensely epic... it's hard to describe the feeling of seeing him live. Don't stop at this song, they're celebrating 25 years right now.

      I'm so jealous of you in a good way 😅 I've never been to their concert, but I feel like I'm going to be blown away if I see it live. maybe one day I will dare to go to Japan for their concert, but it is not something that is easy to do alone

    Love Diru. I've seen them live 4 times. Kyo does an amazing job of appearing as inhumane and otherworldly as possible. His range is unbelievable. Would love to see some more Diru reactions from you. This wasn't even close to their best.

    I love that you caught that going out of tune intentionally where he slides off a note and drags that discomfort back into the listener. His voice was Definitely tired here - that one painful break towards the end makes me flinch every time (they're pretty unusual for him these days) but good God his voice is unreal. The whole band is, but this song is definitely a showcase of his vocals. Like any specific style he uses here and you'll find something in their catalogue with a Lot more of it (lol and usually shorter). You'll find everything from ballads (songs like Glass Skin) to the really, really heavy stuff like Decayed Crow, to really proggy songs like Dreambox, to far more easy listening like The Final or Unraveling. Vinushka is Interesting, but it's a trek, lol. Glad you enjoyed!

    Holy shit I'm so happy you're reacting to Diru... Dir en grey has been a constant for me through the last 15 years at least, and Vinushka is one of my favourite songs. This song live always kills me in a good way.. there is a second live version on youtube with English subs which I like a tad bit more cause you can get a sense of Kyo's (the singer's) genius lyricism, and also for the spell he puts the crowd (and you) under. Another masterpiece is Macabre live at Tabula Rasa 2013, if you wanna check out more of them.

    Not just his vocal techniques and range, but Kyo has probably one of, if not the best stage presence I’ve ever seen.

    This is a great analysis/reaction of Dir En Grey. This song is recommended for first timers precisely because it's 10 minutes and is able to show off most of what Kyo (lead singer) has to offer. I feel pretty confident saying this isn't his full 100% vocal range, though it's definitely a solid 85-95% somewhere?
    I can also almost certainly guarantee that the next song you listen to won't be anything like this. If you listen to another song from Uroboros, the album this is from, there's a chance but.. not likely.
    I'm so glad you noticed that the off key and off tempo feel is to instill a sense of unease. I dunnno if you figured it out from the video, or the comments yet, but this song is about the atomic bombs hitting Japan. It's one of the few reasons I would direct people to the music video instead of the live. The live is, undoubtedly a better listen but the video makes it more obvious what the content is about.
    These dudes have been floating around since 97, 96 if you include La:Sadies, but I don't think most people have heard of that era.
    They're my favourite band.
    I'd check out Ranaculus if I were you. It's a song I'm pretty confident you'd enjoy.

      There's this one live with English subs where you can see the imagery from the music video so it's very clear what the song is about, even for first time listeners. Kyo's voice is also not as tired in that one. Chase Carneson reacted to that one, if you like in-depth analysis then you'll probably love it, if you haven't seen it yet!

    So just to add something about their guitar playing. Karou and Die really focus on the atmosphere of a song. They are fully capable of playing fast metal licks, but if it doesn’t serve the song, it doesn’t stick. They’re humble :)

    Hey if you prefer the more melodic stuff - Dir en Grey has TONS of more melodic (and shorter) songs. I recommend Tousei, Itoshi Wa, Conceived Sorrow, Ranunculus

    One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands. Some other excellent long epics (10+ mins) to react to are Macabre (2013 version), DIABOLOS, and The World of Mercy. I saw them live in NYC in 2013 and hearing VINUSHKA in person was an event I will never forget. Also, definitely check out the studio version; I prefer his voice in that to this live performance

    Nice reaction man, although i really like this version, the 2017 androgynous version is better for Kyo's vocal analysis, since he was already quite tired here, I hope you watch this band more in the future, they have a little bit of everything, if you are interest something more progressive i suggest you try [Macabre live tabula rasa sub eng or Karasu eng sub live hd] greetings from 🇧🇷

    Dir en grey was influenced by bands that existed way before Manson though.
    And they never knew who Manson was, until some interviewer asked them

      Yeah, Manson's work might look and sound a bit similar, but what Manson wants to express is way too different from Dir en grey. It's narcissistic and positive although it's dark.
      Dir en grey's stance is, think and feel however you want. More close to TOOL's stance. And they seriously telling and being told how people should view things. Complete opposite of Manson.

  • @chaoskao8570
    @chaoskao8570 2 роки тому

    Thank you for reacting to Dir en grey! This band changed its sound so many times. Old Dir en grey (they started it in 1998/1999) was WAY different. They grew, matured, changed with every album. Kyos vocals were always good, but there was a time he had major problems with his vocal chords. The lives around this time aren't that great. He really struggled a lot. But after they took some time off, his vocal chords had a chance to heal, they came back stronger than ever. So every album is like a new, different era. (The newest era will will start on June 15th when their new album 'Phalaris' will be released :) )
    If you want to check out more of them I can highly recommend the english subbed videos of Kayaちゃんねる
    She's subbing mostly live songs so you don't have to do without the live feeling you seem to prefer. But you would know what is going on in the lyrics it it's important to you.
    I had fun watching your reaction. It was honest and I liked the small bits of song analysis very much. So I'd love to watch more of your Dir en grey discovery journey ;)
    Fun Fact:
    Right now Kyo is singing in 3! bands. Sukekiyo (very avantgard and his singing style is most of the time totally different. Lots of clean and high singing. 'Elisabeth addict' is a good song to listen to at the beginning. Not that crazy than other songs of the band :D) and Petit Branbancon (they founded last year so there are just 3 songs yet, so we don't know yet what it will be like for sure. But it sounds different than the other two bands)

    Pretty much all their songs are different genres, so there's a lot to see/surprises and most of the music isn't like this song so much. I don't know what genres you like but I could recommend songs based on genre. I'll recommend Audrey right now because I think it's their most underrated song. I think it got buried in their discography because it never got a music video.

    The reason he's going out of tune is because he's trying to do his TRADEMARK WHISTLE SCREAM WITH VIBRATO BUT HE CANT NAIL IT PERFECTLY ANYMORE cause he is already close to 50 years old in this show. Check Different Sense you'll hear his WHISTLE SCREAM WITH VIBRATO.

      He still does the vibrato whistles this song just doesn't have them. People have been worrying about this for over a decade and then he pulls out more range. He sounded more rough in the late 2000's or around 2012 than he does here.

    • @hachikuji_mayoi
      @hachikuji_mayoi 2 роки тому +1

      Has he ever done that in this song anyway? And yeah he's really inconsistent but as far as I'm aware he has been inconsistent always. Even in really old performances. I think he just has no real technique but doesn't really give a fuck and just screams/sings however he feels like and because of that sounds different basically every time lol.
