That’s true about the industry. My friend works at a beauty salon and she have to wear a wig to work because the owner of the salon does not want the clients to see a her grey hair which is beautiful.
I hope that thanks to Janis and other people who show us how various and gorgeous natural beauty can be, it will gradually change the whole situation. The way we percept beauty will not depend on bias

It's nice to get a good perspective on life, beauty and our bodies as we age year by year. I'm only going to be 30 but just the changes from my early to mid 20's to late 20's soon 30's has been an adjustment. I'm learning how to get comfortable in my "literally" changing skin! I enjoy seeing videos like this because it reminds me that what is in front of me now is not all there is and to expect changes. the reason why i subscribed your channel is: i was surfing thru youtube when i saw you, i just had to stop ... you are absolutely stunning and right then and there I said to myself that you are my role model for navigating me thru my new adventure of being in my 50's (i am 52). i am not as slim as you are, and my teeth are also not as beautiful (i am working on my weight that i put on since menopause and i will also get those chomppers fixed! lol) but the story with the grey hair resonated 100% ... i have long hair also and i stopped coloring it when i was 48 1/2 ... and i had the same reason!! i saw my grey hair (regrowth from coloring) shimmering in the sunlight and it was absolutely beautiful... so healthy and shiny... most people thought i should continue to color it chocolate brown, but i was done with it, and i am glad. My hair is long like yours and that was a point of contention for a lot of women too... always telling me to cut it. i am not going too! i love my hair long and grey and now that i see it on you, i am so happy i didnt give in!! :) I am happy happy happy, i found your channel!! I think as we mature we need to become comfortable and confident in our choices of how we wish to look for ourselves and not to change for others. I also have long silver ash colored hair..and I too have been told I should color my hair. But I like ..really like my hair...so my hair stays exactly as it is.. Your hair is beautiful. and I am glad you have decided to be "you".

I’m just stumbled upon this video. I have seen quite a few others. The comments about your hair really struck a cord with me. I went through almost the same response from women when I was letting my gray grow out. I was between stylists and my husband suggested I grow it out. Women were somewhat less than kind. But men loved it. That was a response I never expected. Yours looks great. 😎

I’ve been trying to screw up the courage to stop tinting my hair (I’m 67). My Aunt who is only 13 years my senior did it in her late 50s and looked (and still looks at 80) much younger. Our skin alters to suit our aging hair (it doesn’t know we’re tinting it) so to wear our natural hair colour suits our aging skin colour.
I loved learning more about you. We have quite a bit in common. Pink roses are my favorite flower, always cry at the end of You've Got Mail too, loved Downton Abbey and sad that it's finished. Of course the love of classic clothes and we're about the same age. I guess I'm curious if you have any children. Thanks for your video.

So many women fall into the trap of feeling as if they have to gain approval from others that they fail to stay true to their own thoughts and feelings. My mother is 55 with a wrinkle... you can see this lady's every bone and saggy skin. She aged horrible for 55. She must be in a hot climate and sun bathe alot when she was younger, so now her skin is destroyed

There are lots of ways to make grey hair sparkle and look gorgeous, so if you like your grey hair then the focus really should be how to make it look it's absolute best instead of how to cover it up. Once you do that, your grey hair will look so beautiful people will start stopping you to ask what you're doing to it or wish they had it!
I've recently decided to stop coloring my hair. I was tired of the upkeep. Also, I earned every one of these gray hairs the hard way. Blonde hair may have made me look YOUNGER than I was, but as for the gray...damn, this is what 62 looks like on me, and it's not too bad!
Your hair looks nice and it pairs well with your classic style. I also like all of the RHO shows, especially NY as I am a native New Yorker now living in MA. Southern Charm and Top Chef are also favorites. Enjoying your channel. Carol M.

I think they meant well like you said and were just trying to be helpful. Do you also cut your own hair or do you have a stylist for that? At 55, you’re glowing inside out! I’m 51 and I’ve been covering my gray hair with hair colour as the people around me at work (with no malicious intent) are “bothered” by it. I told myself that by 55, I will not cover up my gray hair anymore.
I really relate to the gray hair choice. You are gorgeous and I love your hair color and length. I'm about your age and I got sick of coloring my hair going on 10 years ago. I'd been coloring since my teens and I was sick of the damage, how fast the roots showed, and I had forgotten what my real color was so I decided to stop coloring. I was so surprised to see how gray and white I was! But IMO I looked much better. My eyes looked bluer and my skin looked more radiant with gray hair so even though my hair is an "old" color, I actually looked younger. I think in many cases Mother Nature knows best so rock the gray I say!
Thanks for your thoughts about long hair! I have long (dyed) blonde hair at 55! It was at my tailbone, but i just had 5 inches cut. I wear it up in a bun most of the time at work, or a simple braid, nothing elaborate. I live in Savannah where the heat is too much for heavy long hair worn down, it needs to be up to be comfortable. But it comes down at home. When my hair dresser tells me I have enough gray coverage I am going to try it gray. Long hair is just my most natural comfortable way of wearing a style, and my husband loves it. Love your channel, thanks for sharing!

I love your hair ! I have long hair and my natural color, not much gray but my hair is healthy and shiny. Wash and condition and air dry 2-3 times a week. Saves so much money too.

The biggest challenge for me was letting go of what other people, including close friends, thought about me deciding to stop hiding my gray. I was lucky in that my husband was supportive of whatever I wanted to do. He just wanted me to be happy. Once I made the decision, I was ready to face the naysayers and not let it bother me. I let my grey grow out when I saw what a beautiful stripe of silver was on either side of my face in the front! I thought to myself that was so pretty & I wanted to see more. We too hv had furry babies & I love Downton Abbey...liked the classic movie YOU'VE GOT MAIL was based on instead. I remember COACH bags were just becoming a thing in late high school.
I think you are so beautiful and your grey hair is lovely. I'm 58 and have been thinking more about letting my hair go grey (I've been coloring it for years), but I'm not sure how to go about it, without looking ridiculous in the process. I think it is an easier transition for someone with blonde hair....mine is dark brown.
All you need to do to go gray let your hair grow out is what I did owning a salon for 44 years I pulled my hair heavily through a cap or you could go and get it foiled very heavily to a white then let it grow out for the transition it's so easy using a purple shampoo
Thank you for your "hair story", Janis! I think it is important to encourage women to wear their natural, healthy hair(color), especially considering how toxic hair dye can bee! I am just in the process of getting more gray hair every day and I´m looking forward to my completely gray hair.

Interesting! I lived in San Antonio as a young Teen and in Germany a few years as a Child. I used to live near Atlanta and had an Aquaintance in Atlanta that worked with Downtown Abbey...She too loves the Show. I saw one Episode and enjoyed it but we lived where they filmed The Walking Dead so Hubby and I were into that Show. We now live 20 minutes,(depending on Traffic) from historic Charleston and I love Southern Charm. I have a Classmate Friend who just had an invitation from Patricia Altschul to tour her Home with her Friends who came to Charleston. My Friend has a grand Plantation Home in another State. So they enjoyed Martini's!😁

Hi, I just wanted to know if since deciding to go natural has it changed your clothing color palette? Just wondering if all the clothes in my closet will need to go to Goodwill? LOL I'm 54 and have been toying with the idea of going with my natural color hair. One of my friends told me the best way to go grey would be to cut your hair real short, then allow it to grow out, which sounds so dreadfully drastic to me. I, too, like my long hair. Another source suggested, another drastic method, in bleaching my whole head white then allowing the natural to grow in. The two drastic options, I believe would result with me in tears. I consulted with my hairdresser, who suggested weaving high and low light colors into my hair while it grows out, which sounds much more doable and less shocking. Thank you for sharing your journey! I have grey hair too. It is in such good condition now that I do not colour it, I no longer use a conditioner and I use a very ordinary shampoo now, Loreal with hylauronic acid in it. It's nice to get a good perspective on life, beauty and our bodies as we age year by year. I'm only going to be 30 but just the changes from my early to mid 20's to late 20's soon 30's has been an adjustment. I'm learning how to get comfortable in my "literally" changing skin! I enjoy seeing videos like this because it reminds me that what is in front of me now is not all there is and to expect changes. the reason why i subscribed your channel is: i was surfing thru youtube when i saw you, i just had to stop ... you are absolutely stunning and right then and there I said to myself that you are my role model for navigating me thru my new adventure of being in my 50's (i am 52). i am not as slim as you are, and my teeth are also not as beautiful (i am working on my weight that i put on since menopause and i will also get those chomppers fixed! lol) but the story with the grey hair resonated 100% ... i have long hair also and i stopped coloring it when i was 48 1/2 ... and i had the same reason!! i saw my grey hair (regrowth from coloring) shimmering in the sunlight and it was absolutely beautiful... so healthy and shiny... most people thought i should continue to color it chocolate brown, but i was done with it, and i am glad. My hair is long like yours and that was a point of contention for a lot of women too... always telling me to cut it. i am not going too! i love my hair long and grey and now that i see it on you, i am so happy i didnt give in!! :)

I think as we mature we need to become comfortable and confident in our choices of how we wish to look for ourselves and not to change for others.
I also have long silver ash colored hair..and I too have been told I should color my hair.
But I like ..really like my hair...so my hair stays exactly as it is..

I’m just stumbled upon this video. I have seen quite a few others. The comments about your hair really struck a cord with me. I went through almost the same response from women when I was letting my gray grow out. I was between stylists and my husband suggested I grow it out. Women were somewhat less than kind. But men loved it. That was a response I never expected. Yours looks great. 😎

I’ve been trying to screw up the courage to stop tinting my hair (I’m 67). My Aunt who is only 13 years my senior did it in her late 50s and looked (and still looks at 80) much younger. Our skin alters to suit our aging hair (it doesn’t know we’re tinting it) so to wear our natural hair colour suits our aging skin colour.
I loved learning more about you. We have quite a bit in common. Pink roses are my favorite flower, always cry at the end of You've Got Mail too, loved Downton Abbey and sad that it's finished. Of course the love of classic clothes and we're about the same age. I guess I'm curious if you have any children. Thanks for your video.

My mother is 55 with a wrinkle... you can see this lady's every bone and saggy skin. She aged horrible for 55. She must be in a hot climate and sun bathe alot when she was younger, so now her skin is destroyed

There are lots of ways to make grey hair sparkle and look gorgeous, so if you like your grey hair then the focus really should be how to make it look it's absolute best instead of how to cover it up. Once you do that, your grey hair will look so beautiful people will start stopping you to ask what you're doing to it or wish they had it!

I've recently decided to stop coloring my hair. I was tired of the upkeep. Also, I earned every one of these gray hairs the hard way. Blonde hair may have made me look YOUNGER than I was, but as for the gray...damn, this is what 62 looks like on me, and it's not too bad!

I think they meant well like you said and were just trying to be helpful. Do you also cut your own hair or do you have a stylist for that? I am also growing out my hair and it is difficult to find a stylist who doesn't want to layer or cut my hair shorter. I like my hair long and straight.

At 55, you’re glowing inside out! I’m 51 and I’ve been covering my gray hair with hair colour as the people around me at work (with no malicious intent) are “bothered” by it. I told myself that by 55, I will not cover up my gray hair anymore.
I really relate to the gray hair choice. You are gorgeous and I love your hair color and length.
I'm about your age and I got sick of coloring my hair going on 10 years ago. I'd been coloring since my teens and I was sick of the damage, how fast the roots showed, and I had forgotten what my real color was so I decided to stop coloring.
I was so surprised to see how gray and white I was! But IMO I looked much better. My eyes looked bluer and my skin looked more radiant with gray hair so even though my hair is an "old" color, I actually looked younger.
I think in many cases Mother Nature knows best so rock the gray I say!
Thanks for your thoughts about long hair! I have long (dyed) blonde hair at 55! It was at my tailbone, but i just had 5 inches cut. I wear it up in a bun most of the time at work, or a simple braid, nothing elaborate. I live in Savannah where the heat is too much for heavy long hair worn down, it needs to be up to be comfortable. But it comes down at home. When my hair dresser tells me I have enough gray coverage I am going to try it gray. Long hair is just my most natural comfortable way of wearing a style, and my husband loves it. Love your channel, thanks for sharing!

I love your hair ! I have long hair and my natural color, not much gray but my hair is healthy and shiny. Wash and condition and air dry 2-3 times a week. Saves so much money too.

Sooo glad I found this video because I really have been thinking about letting my hair go "natural"and give up endless trips to the hairdresser, which I do not enjoy now that it is so frequent. The biggest challenge for me was letting go of what other people, including close friends, thought about me deciding to stop hiding my gray. I was lucky in that my husband was supportive of whatever I wanted to do. He just wanted me to be happy. Once I made the decision, I was ready to face the naysayers and not let it bother me. I let my grey grow out when I saw what a beautiful stripe of silver was on either side of my face in the front! I thought to myself that was so pretty & I wanted to see more. We too hv had furry babies & I love Downton Abbey...liked the classic movie YOU'VE GOT MAIL was based on instead. I remember COACH bags were just becoming a thing in late high school.
I think you are so beautiful and your grey hair is lovely. I'm 58 and have been thinking more about letting my hair go grey (I've been coloring it for years), but I'm not sure how to go about it, without looking ridiculous in the process. I think it is an easier transition for someone with blonde hair....mine is dark brown.
All you need to do to go gray let your hair grow out is what I did owning a salon for 44 years I pulled my hair heavily through a cap or you could go and get it foiled very heavily to a white then let it grow out for the transition it's so easy using a purple shampoo

Interesting! I lived in San Antonio as a young Teen and in Germany a few years as a Child. I used to live near Atlanta and had an Aquaintance in Atlanta that worked with Downtown Abbey...She too loves the Show. I saw one Episode and enjoyed it but we lived where they filmed The Walking Dead so Hubby and I were into that Show. We now live 20 minutes,(depending on Traffic) from historic Charleston and I love Southern Charm. I have a Classmate Friend who just had an invitation from Patricia Altschul to tour her Home with her Friends who came to Charleston. My Friend has a grand Plantation Home in another State. So they enjoyed Martini's!😁

Hi, I just wanted to know if since deciding to go natural has it changed your clothing color palette? Just wondering if all the clothes in my closet will need to go to Goodwill? LOL
I'm 54 and have been toying with the idea of going with my natural color hair. One of my friends told me the best way to go grey would be to cut your hair real short, then allow it to grow out, which sounds so dreadfully drastic to me. I, too, like my long hair. Another source suggested, another drastic method, in bleaching my whole head white then allowing the natural to grow in. The two drastic options, I believe would result with me in tears.
I consulted with my hairdresser, who suggested weaving high and low light colors into my hair while it grows out, which sounds much more doable and less shocking.

I have grey hair too. It is in such good condition now that I do not colour it, I no longer use a conditioner and I use a very ordinary shampoo now, Loreal with hylauronic acid in it. I haven't heard anyone mention Rosemunde Pilcher in years and I love her books. Like you, I think Yolanda is the only housewife with any taste and Erika's posture is incredible!
