- Trey Lance had some highlights and lowlights during the first preason game. Had a couple picks dropped, 1 turning into a Ross Dwelley Touchdown. That being said, he did make some nice throws.

Lance is holding the ball too long. Granted, his O-line was T.R.A.S.H., but he needs to be snapping the ball out. On multiple plays he is lingering too long on receivers, not making quick enough progression through his receivers, and not throwing with enough anticipation. Sadly, Shanahan didn't do him any favors with the playcalling. On both drop backs and play actions there were some plays without hot routes that clearly lead to sacks.
he’s looking off safetys but not having enough time to finish kus the o line had a bad day and they were sloppy.
Quick favor. Share the plays you’re talking about and point out which receiver he should’ve thrown the ball to. You’re saying exactly what the commentators were saying. But not a single time did they say where he should’ve gone with the ball. And that’s the problem. People acknowledge how awful the OLine was, but none have acknowledged how a good 35%-40% of the time, none of the receivers got open or created any separation within the “2 Mississippi” count window. And lastly, the Offense was one dimensional from the door. Play action doesn’t work when your running game doesn’t pose enough of a threat to make the defense respect it.
It's a shame you think that he shouldn't check his read before zipping it out, almost like that's how we get interceptions... This is a vanilla Shanahan offense for the preseason, he doesn't have the luxury of just knowing a guy will be open, he needs at least 2-3 seconds to process and get the ball out, and the line couldn't even give him that most plays. I was actually very encouraged by what I saw, it was by no means perfect but he did look a lot better than before in my eyes. Not to mention he had to hold the ball on most of these plays outside of maybe 1-2, the receivers were getting stacked up by the DB and not getting any separation on most of his reads. After this off-season I totally understand why most people hate our fanbase, everyone thinks they know ball, but it's quite the opposite. Y'all just recite everything the media says for your takes, which most of those are untrue and are only out there for shock factor/clicks. Our team deserves better.
@@blacksuburban2410 exactly they using what the announcer said his iq was low anyways
@@blacksuburban2410 lol I didn't even see your comment before posting mine, thank you so much for being competent.
Clickbait, should have said Lowlights on the thumbnail. ANY 3rd year QB that's been in the same system, with the same head coach, on one of the winningest teams that looked this lost playing against backups would be called a bust. But the hype machine continues.
You would be correct, except usually a QB would played most if not all of the first 2 seasons. Trey on the other hand, has barely played a quarter of season, let alone 2 full seasons at that.
10-15 112YRDS 1 TD
@@jmcghaneand that's enough to say this dude is a bust.
fans don't always know their hot takes lose all credibility when a guy, they criticize has been too injured to practice or play the entire time and they refuse to acknowledge it, like its not a factor in Struggles lol
Trey ain't it.
All I can say is he has a strong arm. Outside of that? Slow processing, slow feet, inconsistent accuracy, bad decision making. The stat line is way friendlier than it should have been.
He doesn't have a strong arm at all. That's another myth. Jimmy actually had a stronger arm than him.
Cant change facts and the stat line is what it is 🤷♂️
He’s not clutch either. Looks slow too.
Agreed. Poor pocket awareness, slow and choppy footwork, and the game seems to be going too fast for him.
Ok, hear me out. I don't think he is processing that slow. It seems to lean more towards bad decision making, because there were about 3, maybe 4, looks he saw, almost threw it, but then pulled it back down resulting in a incompletion or sack because he didn't make the throw. It seems like its more of a fear of making a mistake, which isn't good either. All in all, still not good; he was weirdly hesitant on some plays, then risked it on others.
Is Trey Lance fast? Like can he run? I thought he was mobile
Deer in headlights man
He’s about as mobile as dak Prescott im not sure why he was ever described as being “elusive”.
His "dual threat" potential was such a lie. He looked fast against white dudes in Idaho but looks like a younger Kirk Cousins against backup pros.
I agree he’s not athletic for nfl standards. Now that they showed this tape no one will trade for him. Keep him as a 3rd qb and have a package in short yardage at times to read option since he’s a threat to keep it and get a few yards if he keeps it. But he’s definitely a bust. It’s one thing if you just took him at 11 and he stunk but to trade up and pass on parsons and surtain chase that’s bad.
@@joeheasley8046 is he a threat on short yardage? He was getting chased down by nose tackles.
The kid has had back luck no doubt. Eventually the excuses run out. Going into year 3 he shouldn’t STILL be looking like a deer in headlights unable to get past his second read against base defenses in the preseason. I’m sorry, no excuse for literally every rookie QB, including the late round picks to look BETTER than him at this point.
Exactly it's every excuse in the book yet he's the only one playing bad. Undrafted QBs played better this past weekend. This is Lance's third year and third off-season. He should be better than this. The other rookies playing better literally have weeks behind them in there NFL career not years like Lance. So tired of the excuses these fans and TV analysts make.
I don’t think he ever had a chance to get into his 3rd read. He had no time. His issue is not finding that first option and committing to it in my opinion. If you look at Sam, that’s all he did. First read and throws it
If you’re QB and your receivers are getting open, what would you do?
@@blstesr5703 what? I’m saying that’s what lance should of done more of. You guys get so defensive. Relax

Lance didn’t have a chance. O-Line looked like a bunch of middle schoolers.
How many picks given up for dude?

Darnold honestly looked a lot better today. Ball was out quicker wether he hit it or missed it. Trey was pump faking passes, he’s better than what he put on tape. The Oline was trash, half the time they couldn’t hold a block the other half the didn’t know who to block.
Yea, Trey sucks because of all the o-lines he has played with, lol. You Treybois need mental help.
As a Seahawks fan I hate to say it but us injuring Lance in Week 2 is why y’all made it to the NFC championship. Lance would still find a way to lose even with that defense
Absolutely no pocket presence and very questionable throws, especially the 1st touchdown.
Honestly he didn't look good but the whole team looked pretty bad too. I hope Trey keeps getting better, cause if he doesn't the whole Shanahan, Lynch, and Lance experience should be on notice. Tf you throw away 3 firsts on a dude and don't even help the guy in a meaningful way?
If you remember Shanahan didnt want him it was Lynch that pushed for Trey
I loved what I saw here! He is really good!
😂😂😂😂😂
Lance had a rough day. Not all his fault, but still things he needs to work on come next game.
How could it possibly not be his fault? He’s the main player. Maybe it’s not his fault he’s not good enough

@@curtthechameleon what’s the dumbest take the fact Kyle had Brock take first team reps for both practices knowing Lance was going to start. 😂
Chill y’all this is his first game action in months he’ll be fine
Lance looked anxious and not sure on when to release the ball, and that offensive line was absolutely awful
Lance had a average of 3.2 seconds to throw the ball. Its on him his lack of athletic ability is obvious.
stop blaming the oline. Trey pump faked like every throw those sacks are all on him
They keep saying he’s holding on to the ball too long but he’s getting the ball out around 2.98 seconds. Also when u slow the plays down & you look at the receivers on plays he’s under pressure you’ll notice that they aren’t open or haven’t gotten out of their breaks w/ the exception on the 1 sack he took, it was a high low concept and the defense was playing a cover 2 flat. Our TE did a 5 & out to the left sideline & the Wr did a fade or a post can’t really tell bc he got out of the frame. Nevertheless the CB came down & bit on the TE’s 5 & out. Lance had a small window that he could’ve thrown the ball to that soft spot in the cover 2 before the safety could get there and it would’ve been a huge gain if not a td. He had time before he took the sack. I think if it were Aiyuk he would’ve thrown it 🤷🏽♂️
I agree but I also seen like 2 plays where he should have just thrown where the reciever was going to be and he would of got it.but like u said. It’s probably a trust issue thing there. He was afraid to throw cuz he didn’t think his reciever would get there which is obviously a bad sign. He also threw like 2 passes that should have absolutely never left his hand. But again that’s a trust issue thing. He probably got scared of holding onto the ball any longer and just decided to let it rip.
Look at his first snap he had 10 open on the left side, would have only been about 5 yards but that's the difference between 2nd and 14 and 2nd and 5. He just needs to get the ball to his receivers better.
you are correct they just want Purdy and need someone to bash and its lance
@@maccuniversetv 🤡
@@BangBang415-ym3qr I agree! That said it’s his first snap in over a year in a live game. Nerves/pressure of not doing exactly what Kyle wants, pressure from the defense etc etc played a part in his decision to not throw the ball then. He got better as the game went on. Which means what Trey needs more than anything is reps/playing time. Don’t get me wrong Brock Purdy definitely earned QB1 but in the event he’s not able to play for whatever reason, Trey should get the nod 🤷🏽♂️
Trey is not a dual threat. He’s a non threat. My man looks slow. Slow feet. Slow processing.
These scouts/coaches look way too much at college athleticism of these qbs. Even baker mayfield looked athletic in college or Johnny manziel. But they’re slow in nfl standards. And he wasn’t even a D1 qb so of course he’d look more athletic then his competition.
Was better than I thought it would be based on all the hot takers opinions. If he gets a shot, it will take a few games to play at NFL speed. But there is something there for sure
Better than you thought? Lol the hot takers have every right to feel how they do. Lance should have had 2 picks, 4 sacks and no touchdowns vs a 2nd & 3rd team defense. The starting defenses during the regular season will not drop those picks…Lance played bad….hoping for a much improved 2nd week
You found highlights out of this outing? Interesting
Definitely see some progress. But Quick releasers like Jimmy G and Brock thrive in the Niner offense.
Looked scared and overwhelmed. Not good for year 3 against backups. Slow with processing.
First game back from a snapped ankle will definitely do that to you
That TD drive was beautiful until the last play sort of. He’s done this before where he starts the game slow and plays better the next half or quarter. Would like to see him with at least Jennings Ray Ray Danny Gray. Players who will actually make the team !
Ray Ray is out with a broken wrist.
I feel like they didn’t do him any favors. Vanilla play calling trash oline receivers weren’t getting any separation it was all bad as a unit. Definitely needs some different receivers I’m not to enthused with the depth or the backups if anyone goes down.
@@chrismarshall1723 preseason playcalling is always vanilla. They aren't going to waste the dialed plays during a preseason game. O-line did look bad, but Lance also looked a bit indecisive and skiddish at times. I was expecting him to scramble more when the plays weren't there to make. Not blaming it all on him just saying there were some things I was expecting to see and didn't.

@@jmcghanethis replay really helped. I heard some of the hot takes from the talking shtheads and thought I must have watched a completely different game. But no, same game. The o-line was sucking so much a-hole, they must be gender confused democrats. They really should be wearing rainbow jerseys the gimps. He couldn’t possibly pass the ball with that many blown coverages. I’ve seen Tom Brady do just as badly in the same situations. Some of the passes he did get off were absolute miracles considering he always had someone right on his neck. The red zone interception that turned into a lucky TD was his worst pass. Take the fking sack. At least we can get a field goal. Better than turning it over there. He can’t turn into Jimmy G forcing the ball when nobody is open and he’s getting pressured. Other than that, he couldn’t really have done more than he did do. It’s not going tennis. It’s a team sport and his O-line neglected their role completely.
you are blind and dont understand football

I’ve really learned how stupid and ignorant 49er fans really are…It’s embarrassing
He did make some good throws tho. Kid is under lots of pressure. He needs to be a back up like for a years so under a veteran like Kirk Cousins and develop more.
These commentators bashed Trey the entire first half. They didn’t say one positive even when he made good throws
No way Tim ryan or Gregg papa did that. They are niners commentators and love that kid. Your high

First sack Trey looks right at the receiver and then chooses not to throw it. Second sack. Look to your right Trey. Wide open receiver.
I don't understand giving him all 3rd string guys in every position and thinks he's pose to be great...at least Kyle could have gave him the 2nd unit....he didn't even give the kid that and he still didn't play poorly as most would have and yes...everyone depends on luck sometimes in the NFL....but I like that he o ly broke pocket to buy time and didn't try to run at all
Yea and then darnold plays when the raiders 3rd/4th string is in but raiders had 2nd and some 1st guys playing trey
Excuses every damn time! He was playing against 2nd and 3rd string! It's preseason dude, the starters mostly won't play at all in the first game! If he was so good he should've picked a 2nd/3rd string defense apart! Absolutely 0 excuses. Blame the o line, blame the coach, blame the starters not being in, blame the TV for showing it lol blame everyone except for the one who couldn't make more than 2 reads on his progressions. That td was luck, should've been an interception. You seen it..

As a Niner fan, this makes me feel much better about our season. There isn't going to be any QB controversy, no what-ifs on who is going to be the starter, it is clear that Trey isn't ready.
So much for being a dual threat franchise QB
He never was a dual threat.

Come on treybois, lets here it from you why trey should be the starter, and it has to be better than he needs more reps, or 1st. O line, how many more excuses can you come up with? Fans are just supposed to wait another of couple of years before trey gets it?
Can't wait for Purdy, Darnold, and Allen to have 3 years in Shanny's system like Lance has.

Give him time. Everyone is making him nervous with all this BS about him being “not ready for NFL” there’s worse quarterbacks than him. I enjoyed watching trey in college. He’s going to go far. I feel it. It’s just like tua. Even though he was hurt and broken. He still got in the NFL
Kid hasn't played since September. And he's playing with 2's and 3's. So I'm not overreacting. He obviously has things to work on but not too bad of a game under the circumstances. More reps, he'll clean it up. You could tell, he's a student of the game.
Did you forget that he was also playing against 2nd and 3s? No more excuse. He was a**.
Rumor has it
He’s not making the roster
I’d say cut our losses and focus on purdy once he’s back

I agree to an extent, its just everybody is already counting him out when he has only played in 3 regular season games. Obviously he is going to have growing pains, but he will grow
@@A_r78Purdy has been back for several weeks
No this int something you just clean up. He holds onto the ball way too long. 2 of the sacks he had he had easy throws for gains but he didn't even see them. On top of that he threw two passes directly into the hands of other defenders. He struggles seeing the field and getting the ball out.
Man oh man, only if this kid could get in game reps. Trey can be special, I can see it but he just lacks experience. If he could stack four games in a row, he would start to see the field better because everything will slow down. Please trade him Kyle so he can get that experience🤴🏾

@@curtthechameleonDo you even know football? #PurdyIsFoolsGold💀
@@MrKwatts27 Purdy is fools gold….hmmm, let me try and wrap my head around that real quick….SO! Purdy was handed the team, at a time when the rest of the team was basically about to give up on their season all together, and he basically did no wrong until getting injured by Hassan riddick (while the 49ers were running a play action, and riddick was being blocked by Tyler Kroft, a then third string tight end, so I really don’t think that was Purdys mistake.) Purdy has more experience, more poise, and a much higher football IQ than Trey lance probably ever will. Purdy proved this by also getting an elite score on the S2 cognition test, a score that only like 2 other qbs in the league currently also scored (one of them being Mr. Mahommes)
A test that basically determines how fast he is able to process information much like a quarterback has to on the field with chaos in front of him most of the time.
So all this and a lot of other things, and he’s fools gold?
Dude, it’s YOU that doesn’t know football, let’s be real.
Trey lances “I have a strong arm and strong legs so that means im a quarterback, I guess” style reminds me a lot of how I feel when I watch todays nba….the nba has been reduced to three pointers from obnoxious places for clout, no playing in the paint, whimpy shit.
I don’t want the nfl to follow the same pattern and end up all passing, all bombs, and when the quarterback discovers the guy he wanted to pass it to isn’t open he runs for it and dances more than he runs….Trey lance is and always has been a low key diversity driven pick, that turned out to be a bust. He’s had his chances, he failed , he doesn’t need more time, Purdy didn’t. Enough said.
Geez, like jamarcus Russell excuse after excuse not willing to admit to a bad call, makes a throw and everyones like "see I told you he just needs more time to develop" he's the franchise Q.B.
Chris Conley is about to have a career revival. Chiefs fans appreciate him.

All Trey lances issues come from not playing long enough. Even though he’s not a rookie, his actual play time on the field is super low due to injury. He still hasn’t acclimated to the league, and unfortunately the 49ers drafted someone good enough to replace him.

Lance is worth the picks. Stay tuned casuals
The only way I can see him succeeding in the NFL is if he plays in a system that allows him to stay on the move. I’m not a niners fan but it’s evident that he needs to be in a system with a lot of rollout passes & RPO quick game routes. His style just doesn’t fit the niners offense.
100% I noticed the same thing. He is not a pocket passer at all. He doesn't have the poise for it and doesn't appear to go threw his reads quick enough to be standing in there like that.
In preseason games they only run generic offenses. None of that is really out of the playbook when the season officially starts.
For a dual threat QB he looks as fast as Russell Wilson

He might be faster than Brady if Brady has a bad day. He looked fast against horrible teams in college but he can't outrun anyone in the nfl

Pass protection packages fall on the QB. If he sees something, then it’s his job to adjust the protection. I honestly don’t think he knows how to do that.
Trey played fine , y’all trippin. Dbs can’t catch his fastball so not worried about the near picks. The touchdown throw was literally his only option so he gunned it. Those announcers didn’t complement Trey for any of his good throws. Everybody hates Trey but the young lion isn’t backing down!

Mmmyeah. He seems okay considering he had no O'line n receivers couldn't get open. I've noticed that even when he plays well in a game he typically shows a lot of improvement in the second half compared to the first. He's also coming back from an ankle injury so they couldn't run him too much.
All n all you can still see a potentially very good quarter back. Give it time
😂🤦
I think the 'give it time' thing is what has the majority of our fanbase frustrated. We don't have time. We are literally a true QB away from a solid ring run. I hope Purdy works out because I've been a Niner since 89' and I want us to win it all again. With that, I agree we with what you are saying. Trey needs more live reps in real games. We just don't have the time to grant him that key development period. The injuries really hindered him. All in all I think the fanbase is impatient because we are all still seeing Emanuel Sanders wide open and being missed... ANYWAY IT'S BANG BANG IN THIS THANG!!!

Better change this title to trey Lance low lights, get him outta here already
People are quick to write qbs off… he has the physical ability he needs to catch up mentally and see the field faster. Doesn’t help that the offensive line is pretty much non existent.
He needs more time to develop then he’d be a good usfl quarterback!
That second team o line was getting abused by that raider front 7 and the backup skill guys on the 9ers couldn’t get open to save their life. I’m not writing trey off until I see him play a full game with cmc deebo the 3 other all pros on offense.
trey Lance has highlight? Are those like Jake Moody highlights?
Solid stats 10/15 1TD OINT
Playing with a trash 🗑 o-line and some backup wrs
Dont let him play next game.. lest go With 14 for a while then we go With purdy ( we need all the w we can from Day 2 Now!
I thought this would’ve been a 10 sec video.
Running for his life all day, timing disrupted by the Raider defense. Lance had no chance.
Bust.
Watch the all 22... mason catches that screen, easy 40 yards and we're having a different conversation about all this.
Have to see the all 22 to know if receivers were getting open and he was holding the ball too long
Yea I wish there was a way we could get that zoomed out coverage too.
Lance bit holding it too long like it looks.. all those pump fakes look where here looking.. the many times the receiver is late breaking on his route.. couple other times it was a good non throw into good bracket coverage on some seams.. line didn’t hold long enough to make more then 1-1/2 reads.. first play is prime example.. first read was a short hitch and the reciever ran it too deep.. moved to the seam and both linemen put arms up..
Second play.. rb was not looking for ball.. moved outside to dwelly.. third route the reciever makes a triple move at the line on a quick slant so he wasn’t in position when trey wanted to throw.
That’s just the first 3 snaps where all three primaries were not in proper position
Can’t wait for the 22 to see better angles
Too slow mentally to not be exceptionally fast physically. I was kinda shocked by how average in terms of athleticism he looked.
Right?! Everyone talks like he runs a 5.5 but he looks slow af.
@@Twerkin32 he’s a hell of a lot faster than 5,5, but he might be around 4,8 instead of 4,5
Trey is still a project. He’ll be starting QB level in some years I think
I agree, but is the NFL the place to do that? This is the pros. That’s the stuff you learn before you get to the pros
@@TheBAYSTiLO well he needs to play including COVID year of college he hasn’t played in like 4 years other than practice. The 49ers made a bad choice getting him should have just got Mac Jones and let him go somewhere he can develop
@@stonedonthewrap8592 bro, that’s time has passed. I’m year three… the 49ers will be lucky if they can get some picks for him in a trade. Otherwise it’s a cut and 34million lost
Bro it’s been 3 years
Dude is a bust
Got to move on
Gave up so much for nothing
He has zero potential. He's the least talented QB I've ever seen make it to the NFL. It's absurd how the scouting on him was so bad.
you guys are tripping. i see good things. he was injured last year. even brady would get sacked if he doesn't have an o-line im starting to think you arm chair evaluators are pretty blind. its still early but we see flashes.
Kyle Shanahan needs to use Lance like he used RGIII
Boi looks like Carson Wentz out there
Are there 9er fans who think he should start over Purdy?
Ya the black ones
Just trolls and racists who hate Purdy
@@ryanlg805you sound stupid i know plenty of white fans who think Trey should start and plenty of black who think Purdy should. I for one am black and believe at this point it’s only right Purdy starts. Your response let’s me know it’s a race thing with you though 😂😂😂😂
@@ryanlg805I mean...u not wrong
He showed me a lot he just needs to calm down and get going but that comes with reps I like what I seen plus the O line was horrible
Lol
Compared to bryce young, he’s uncomfortable in the pocket.
