Other people have said this, and I replied to a comment echoing what I’ll say here; you can’t say like Angle did that WWE buries talent from other companies and then say Vince wished he had AJ in 2007. There’s not a chance in hell Styles is getting into a main event picture that included Triple H, Batista, Orton, Cena, Edge, Undertaker, and JBL just to name a few. Vince wasn’t looking for an AJ Styles then. He already had Edge and Jeff Hardy to fill that “role” of an undersized fan favorite. Plus, when he did scout newer guys, he was still obsessed with “traditional” main eventers, as evidenced by pushing “foreign” characters like Umaga, Kozlov, and Great Khali along with muscle men like Bobby Lashley. AJ would have killed his career if he went to WWE instead of staying with TNA, and to think otherwise is illogical, no matter how good you think he is.
I think the only thing that would put AJ below Flair or Michaels is that (and it's not like I'm qualified to say this) is that it took him quite some time to become even semi-believable on the mic. Shawn wasn't always the best either, but when he found his bark, it was like an explosion. Obviously Flair is one of the most charismatic workers of all time. And also, I would have to disagree with Kurt on AJ needing to be in WWE 10 years ago. That would definitely have helped him in the eyes of the WWE fans, but in my opinion, Lone Wolf AJ all the way to Bullet Club leader in NJPW was when AJ really set his mark as being one of the best of all time. He needed to have spent that much time in TNA, and get shafted by them for that to happen. At least, I think so.
@@reptilegovernment9481 For his time, Flair was absolutely at the level we saw Michaels and AJ perform at. Sure he had his trademark bumps he would take and stuff but he could captivate a crowd for an hour without getting the "boring" boo.
The only reason AJ signed when he did was simple. Look at the rooster in 2005-2010, all monsters. I get in 2004 they let Eddie and Benoit be champion, however they then lost those belts to big monster like Cena, Thriple H, Batista, hell Umaga was red hot 10 years ago. He didnt fit and would've been low mid card wrestling Jimmy Wang Yang and Hurricane. That's why AJ didnt sign. However in 2014 2015 WWE they went away from Cenas and gave the belt to Rollins, Byrant, and Bray Wyatt. So he fits in with those guys. I don't see AJ beating a Thriple H or Cena in 2006 nor do I see him beating Randy Ortan or MVP back when they held Us and Intercontinental championships. Edge was on that roster too. Like no AJ couldn't hang with them via fan support and ability to get over. He came into WWE OVER ASF, being gone from American wrestling for 2 years. I take nothing away from his ability in the ring but that's only a small part of wrestling
Yeah, you can’t say like Angle did that WWE buries talent from other companies and then say Vince wished he had AJ in 2007. There’s not a chance in hell Styles is getting into a main event picture that included Triple H, Batista, Orton, Cena, Edge, Undertaker, and JBL just to make a few. Vince wasn’t looking for an AJ Styles then. He already had Edge and Jeff Hardy to fill that role. Plus, when he did scout newer guys, he was still obsessed with “traditional” main eventers, as evidenced by pushing “foreign” characters like Umaga, Kozlov, and Great Khali along with muscle men like Bobby Lashley. AJ would have killed his career if he went to WWE, and to think otherwise is illogical, no matter how good you think he is.
Several have quoted Vince McMahon in saying he should AJ Styles a lot sooner than he did, but there is an argument to be made, if he did, AJ would have been booked in the midcard when he got to WWE, ever since he showed up to WWE in 2016, he has never not mattered, he is treated as a top talent, and Mick Foley said it best if Vince McMahon understands you and sees your talent, and is a fan of your work that is never going away.
That's because when Kurt came back to the WWE, he wanted to wrestle immediately but Vince McMahon wouldn't let him. He was given the Hall Of Fame role first and then they made him the General Manager of RAW for a year and a half and then when Kurt finally did get back in the ring, it was too late so he said : _"Screw it, I'm retiring after WrestleMania 35"_ Kurt wanted John Cena but Vince decided to go with Baron Corbin instead. So you can blame WWE for not letting Kurt wrestle when he had the chance.
I grew up watching Harley Race, Ric Flair, Nick Bockwinkel, and so many others. WCCW, AWA, Mid Atlantic and Maple Leaf wrestling showcased many stars. I don't really know much about Kurt or AJ. I'll research their careers. Pretty bold claims made by Kurt here.
I've always loved HBK. My favorite at 5 when he threw Marty through the barbershop window.(makes childhood a little weird when your idol is a "sexy boy,boy toy. But I saw a guy who looked cool, had a hot chick doing stuff for him,he had a title, and was smart) And I've said HBK is the best ever...But even though he isn't even in my top 10 favorites Angle cas a case to be 1B. So Shawn is 1a and Angle 1b as the greatest ever
Any conversation of the greatest wrestler of all time, has to include AJ and Angle. If anyone disagrees then one simple question: name a better in ring performer than those two? There is no correct answer to that question because none exist. Some come close like Benoit and Michaels. But close and that’s it.
Kurt was the equivalent of a five-tool ball player. He could do everything well. I'd probably pick Bret Hart's wrestling over his, though. Would have loved to see those two in a match in their primes.
aj can do almost anything in the ring. wether its flying or just a show of strength, and every move is perfection. the guy "mastered" pro wrestling. his mic work was never great but when it comes to wrestling, no one can touch aj. he is also physically a freak. and he doesnt do indy flip-flop nonsense.
I know most people won't even know who I'm talking about but when you talk about the greatest wrestler of all time I think The Ultimo Dragon doesn't get enough credit in that debate.
Heavily disagree with Kurt here. AJ is definitely top 5. Aj is the best in everything and everywhere. He's done it everywhere and done it all, and done it to levels that are virtually unreachable.
Kurt... It doesn't matter what you think.... I say... Kurt is best in the business.... I'm die hard fan of you and truly you are the best in this business... I love sexy kurt
I love AJ but realistically if he signed in say like 2005-2006ish they would’ve stuck him the cruiserweight division and not given him a second thought and that’s not slight against AJ that’s just how that company was at that time and that’s how he would’ve been typecast
So aj was given a few trial matches in both wwe and wcw in the early 2000s but didn’t get further than that. Which imo is a complete waste. Aj and Samoa Joe were the only reasons I watched early tna.
@@Jamie-kv9eg he might not have unlike being fed to him more recently to lesnar, but imagine all the matches we could've had in wwe if he was there aj vs hbk aj vs austin aj vs rock aj vs rey aj vs eddie for gods sake aj vs beniot (say all you want about the man but as a wrestler beniot was one of the best) aj vs taker in an actual match the list goes on and on hell but in him with in the cruiserweights and that would've been good too
He was offered a development deal and he declined because that would mean to move to another part of the country and her wife was in college at the time
He was offered a contract but turned them down because h his wife was in college and he didn't want to move because of her. End of the day. it was the RIGHT move on his part because he would be a mid card at best and never be pushed as a main eventer..
There is NOTHING wrong with Kurt saying he’s the best! Lemieux and Gretz both think they are, and they both have points although I lean Mario, Jordan and Lebron like to say so) though I may say Wilt) As Mantle said (one of the greats in his own right) “it ain’t braggin if you can do it”

It’s a smart part of wrestling TO THE WWE that’s the statement you were looking for
Kurt IS the greatest pro wrestler of all time! It's true, it's damn true!
A boy in a mans world
@@Isa_mahmood didn't you say that about Rey Mysterio
When is this interview from? Just looks phenomenal
I also consider AJ better than Shawn. I'm glad Kurt agrees.
2017 was the last year Kurt Angle looked decent. He walks like a shrivelled old man now.
he's 52.
I was thinking the same exact thing
Kurt has the balls to back up his statement about him being the goat... he might be right tho
I agree too. It’s true. It’s true.
I thought I am the only one things Seth Rollins is the best wrestler in wwe
Thanks Kurt
You have to believe you are the greatest. Thats why kurt is top 10 all time!
I think AJ Styles would have been an excellent choice for Kurt Angle's final match. I feel like Baron Corbin was an odd choice, nothing against him.
the GOAT is Mark Calloway The Undertaker PERIOD
no it’s not period.
Nah
Kurt is the greatest pro wrestler
I've always loved HBK. My favorite at 5 when he threw Marty through the barbershop window.(makes childhood a little weird when your idol is a "sexy boy,boy toy. But I saw a guy who looked cool, had a hot chick doing stuff for him,he had a title, and was smart) And I've said HBK is the best ever...But even though he isn't even in my top 10 favorites Angle cas a case to be 1B. So Shawn is 1a and Angle 1b as the greatest ever
I will forever be bitter that we never got AJ Styles vs Shawn Michaels. They would’ve literally broke wrestling 😂
when was this interview filmed??
2017, says in bottom right corner
Elliott Duce “released in 2017”. it could’ve been filmed in 2016.
@@HoNoRey AJ is 44 as of 2021 Kurt & the interviewer mention that AJ is 40 in the video, I’d say 2017…
He was in Here Comes the Pain, so I'm sure a lot of people remember him in some way.
Ultimo dragon, hayabusa, sabu, dynamite kid, tiger mask are all underrated
Heavily disagree with Kurt here. AJ is definitely top 5. Aj is the best in everything and everywhere. He's done it everywhere and done it all, and done it to levels that are virtually unreachable.
Kurt... It doesn't matter what you think.... I say... Kurt is best in the business.... I'm die hard fan of you and truly you are the best in this business... I love sexy kurt
Kurt Angle is the greatest of all time, I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE, KURT IS THE GREATEST.
If angle calls you the best then that’s something. Even taker said that
Tbh you can't say aj styles would've been successful if he went to WWE 10 years ago considering how McMahon prefer big guys but we'll never know
I love AJ but realistically if he signed in say like 2005-2006ish they would’ve stuck him the cruiserweight division and not given him a second thought and that’s not slight against AJ that’s just how that company was at that time and that’s how he would’ve been typecast
@UCpV8ZMlMz9dvY8xlyeMEIMg really hate that Vince gets hard for bodybuilders and giants
I hated Kurt angle as a kid... and he grew on me every year
Wasn't Chris Benoit his best opponent before tho?
AJ shits on Angle, natural.
i wouldve liked to see aj vs benoit in there primes
"I just can't believe they waited this long."
Exactly! Does anyone know if any offers were made earlier that he just didn't go for?
So aj was given a few trial matches in both wwe and wcw in the early 2000s but didn’t get further than that. Which imo is a complete waste. Aj and Samoa Joe were the only reasons I watched early tna.
jesusisere Aj would never have amounted to anything in wwe in the early 2000s. He’d be one of the bums fed to lesnar.
@@Jamie-kv9eg he might not have unlike being fed to him more recently to lesnar, but imagine all the matches we could've had in wwe if he was there
aj vs hbk
aj vs austin
aj vs rock
aj vs rey
aj vs eddie for gods sake
aj vs beniot (say all you want about the man but as a wrestler beniot was one of the best)
aj vs taker in an actual match
the list goes on and on
hell but in him with in the cruiserweights and that would've been good too
He was offered a development deal and he declined because that would mean to move to another part of the country and her wife was in college at the time
He was offered a contract but turned them down because h his wife was in college and he didn't want to move because of her.
End of the day. it was the RIGHT move on his part because he would be a mid card at best and never be pushed as a main eventer..
Has kurt got a cold here? Poor little fella
Chris Benoit says hello
Who. Fck that murderer are you kidding.
There is NOTHING wrong with Kurt saying he’s the best! Lemieux and Gretz both think they are, and they both have points although I lean Mario, Jordan and Lebron like to say so) though I may say Wilt) As Mantle said (one of the greats in his own right) “it ain’t braggin if you can do it”
Of course Kurt considers himself one the greats. His 1996 Olympic gold medal validates that he is.
What makes aj and shawn best wrestlers?
They can put great matches with anyone
He’s no Bret Hart 😏
Bret Hart
i’m confused aj is the best then it’s close he says hbk in most interviews
Kurt
Bret
Benoit
Shawn
Jericho
My opinion.
AJ probably in the top 10
Shawn Michaels is way better than aj
