Vince Russo was the reason many in the attitude era still had a job. He made almost everyone on the roster relevant within the storyline. They made a lot of money at the time. After he left WW(F)E slowly went back to just focusing on the main event wrestlers. Show was getting less and less enjoyable to watch and stay tuned to.

      @Omar
Let me make this fact abundantly clear since you appear brain damaged....
      *NO ONE LIKES RUSSO.*
      Not one single person.
So it’s truly not complicated to clearly see that Russo’s work always ends in failure.
It’s evident because it’s just not one or two or even three people that agree that Russo ruins everything he touches, it’s EVERYONE who acknowledges this fact.
      Especially TNA/impact and WWE executives.
What’s certain is that you’ll never see Russo in a reputable wrestling company ever again because they ALL know Russo’s work will eventually result in failure thus in loss. Reputable companies have to much at stake to lose. They won’t dare hire Russo.
The only place you might find Russo are in the indies. That’s it.
So don’t hold your breath hoping to see him in WWE, TNA, New Japan, or AEW.
Only the indies “might” accept his failures since they have not much to lose.

@Hamburger Stalker Jim being "unsuccessful in every promotion he's been in" is factually false & can be disproven with basic research. As far as a "Success like Russo" success for how long? His hot-shotting way of booking (where he throws everything at the wall to see if it sticks) is one of the main catalysts for the "wrestling" we get today. Stephanie McMahon hired TV writers because of the "ratings" Vince Russo "brought" (even though he had the 3 biggest stars in wrestling on the roster & a world renowned production crew). TNA sunk in large part due to him & Dixie Carter, point blank. As for WCW, he helped sink an already sinking ship. While Jim has proven that he lacks a filter when he gets hot, he had already been successful for 10 BEFORE he joined the WWF (and he left WCW on his own accord). You disagreeing with Jim doesn't negate the fact that Vince Russo proved to be a cancer everywhere he has gone (which is only 3 places, because HE ISN'T A WRESTLING GUY).

Politics are what prevented Russo from growing WCW and TNA more than he did.
All of the people who rag on his WCW run don't know the actual facts and are regurgitating bullcrap they've heard by revisionists. He was head of creative in WCW for 3 months and he took the rating from a 2.6 to a 3.4. Nobody was going to get the rating from a 2.6 to a 5.0 in that time frame because that's not how TV works. Look at all the successful shows and you'll see it took years for them to peak. It took the WWF almost 3 years to hit its peak with RAW.
Gaining the trust of the audience takes time, regardless of whether your show is good or not. 1997 proves that. It's much, much easier to lose viewers than it is to gain them.

Russo buried WCW then tried to do the same to TNA.
      Intentional or not.
      He’s to blame.
      His work is absolute failure.
Russo is indeed an inept incompetent failure.
That’s why you’ll never ever see him in a reputable wrestling company again.

Russo is a writer. Cornette is a Booker. Bookers will always want to see their guys go over. Writers will write for whomever they're told to write for which is usually from the higher ups because the higher ups want to see certain talent being put over, and even then, the writers work still has to be approved, adjusted, and accepted. WCW and TNA failed because of terrible money, directive, and contract decisions made by people usually working in positions ABOVE the writer. So Cornette just has an irrational reason to hate Russo because he's a mark for himself and likes to have heat with someone because he still thinks kayfabe is real. Booker and Big Show both said the same thing about WCW being chaotic, structureless, with big egos who made things cushy for themselves. Now Nash is a near 7 foot tall torn quad meme, Hall's health was shot to shit, Bischoff has to make sporadic appearances here and there. That's karma and effect.

So in wwe, a writer’s position is above a booker’s?

    • @revadarius2594

If any of that was true, then why would any higher up want him, or allow him, to not only put himself on T.V. - especially when he can't string a coherent word together - but self-insert and book himself to be the WCW champion....
Russo is a shmuck who had 1 good idea one time, but was able to bullshit himself into that positon then later bullshit himself into too many positons he was not qualified for. His actions and writing were the reason not 1 but 2 companies went out of business.
TNA for over a decade was a mess - the wrestling wasn't an issue, it was there was no reason to be invested because of how dogshit the story lines were. Cornette is correct. You can't just right any whacky doodle dipshit and hope to make it coherrent. You have to take into account the booking - making your top baby face or heel do certain things kills there credability, it harms their character, it hurts their star power. Lower star power means they're less of a draw. You draw less, means you aren't selling as many tickets, getting as many views or PPV buys, means you're losing money.
Russo is a hack with 22 years of proof to show for it.

I get that Russo had a lot of silly ideas. But I’ve never really understood why Corny hates him so much. He never has much to say about Russo wronging him outside of disagreeing on wrestling philosophy and ideas. Just seems like a silly reason to hate someone. At least Bischoffs stories about Russo I can get his disdain.

    • @erikrupp692

Cornette takes wrestling VERY seriously, and Russo doesn't. Russo tore down all the things that Cornette believes made wrestling work. I tend to think that Cornette was right and Russo was wrong. That's not to say that every idea Cornette ever had was gold, or that Russo never came up with a good idea. On the whole, however, Cornette gets it. He's all about building things up and making sure the storyline/psychology makes sense. Russo doesn't care if it makes sense, he just throws things at the wall to see if they'll stick.
