I agree with your opinion- Pune city is too busy to go around for tourists. Full of two wheeler traffic and honking, noisy narrow roads. Going out of city places would be better experience. Pune is controlled by City corporation. People are elected into this corporation are dis-honest and full of corruption. They take bribe money and allow illegal constructions, often taking away space of the road. As a result lots of apartment buildings and no space left for roads!! It is funny, Pune has many auto manufacturing companies. They want to sale their cars but no space on the roads (drive or park) for these cars!!
I’m sure lots of people love loud busy cities but it was a bit crazy for me! I would hope that those issues change for the people living in Pune as it’s not easy to get around at all
@@Kelvin-z6n This can change when the Metro will be working as planned. Currently it is not yet working in most busy areas. Second thing will change the situation is demand for less priced apartment communities developed away from city connected with better clean roads and transport facilities. Both builders and auto makers will benefit by this.

I wish I could so that it wouldn’t happen to anyone else but unfortunately I don’t have any information on him as I just wanted to get out of the situation at the time. It’s a shame knowing it happens to locals and tourists quite often in certain places
All auto rickshaws have a tariff meter and you should pay by the meter. So always make sure to agree on that when hiring the rickshaw. Make sure the rickshaw driver starts the meter. It starts with Rs 25/- Even we the locals are fed up of certain rickshaw drivers and other public who arent living the cultural values of the city. Too many people now in pune from all over and are not maintaining the warmth and safety this city once had.
Honestly even though india is kind of chaotic you will be safe unless you go to shady areas like old delhi or dharavi etc. Many foreign youtubers visit those areas have created a perception that its all you get in India but there are very nice areas in india specially in himalyan regions like Himachal ladakh sikkim and in south kerala is nice.

Looks like you are moving north. Many will not like what I am saying. But please travel in day time only and stay at good hotels and bigger towns or cities. South is much safer than north. As you go north of Maharashtra, its becomes more chaotic and unsafe. Though with basic precautions you both will be totally fine
You did good, Or even better we have public transport metro. Even local face rudeness of rickshaws.. Asked them to go by meter. use uber or ola it's best to travel..
Hello Charlotte. I am a Puneite and am ashamed at your experience. Yes, the Tuk Tuk (Auto) drivers can be notorious and sometimes even we as residents are forced to get into an argument with them, but luckily not everyone is like that. I will strongly recommend either getting in touch with a reliable local who can guide you around or opting for Ola/Rapido/Uber rather than hiring the autos directly. Hoping that you and your partner will continue to have a memorable experience here. Have a great day ahead.
That is great advice thank you. It’s a shame that some drivers are like that even to locals :( thanks for your comment and I hope you have a good time celebrating the Ganpati festival 🙏🏻
Feeling very sorry for your bad experience, I'm from Pune. We, even locals face such kind of issues here, this is the truth. Try to stick to Ola/Uber here. There are many such auto drivers here especially the local drivers who aren't good. And I appreciate you for resisting firmly to the driver.
Really sorry for the bad experience you had, if something happens again ask someone nearby to help. Enjoy the rest of the journey. Also, the lifestyle at Pune is always busy, when we get somewhere that is relatively not so busy, we also start feeling uncomfortable cause we are just used to "rush" now. Although places near Pune or around Maharashtra are so quiet and lovely. you'll definitely love it.
Thank you for showing wonderful parts of the Interior and exploring non touristy locations. Feel sorry for you Charlotte that you have to endure unruly Auto Rickshaw driver (Auto for short in India 😀 ). They are the same everywhere you go. Keep the faith, Good things Happen to Good People is the motto of my life. You will be amazed how beautiful North East is which the world does not know!
Please use Metro in Pune. It is very convenient. BTW, 20 years back, Pune was a pensioners paradise. With the IT and other manufacturing industries coming up, the population has grown exponentially. The city and people are still very hospitable. You should never negotiate with an auto (tuktuk) fellow. Either ask to go by meter and book an OLA/Uber. You can book tuktuk also on OLA/Uber. You should have been to some local art/culture program. That would be a different experience. BTW, you visited Pune during Ganesh festival. During this lots of people from all over Maharashtra visit Pune to see the Ganesh decorations. Please expect 10x surge in traffic during this 10 day period.
Hi, I came to your channel for the first time because of this video. I'm Marathi and I was born and brought up in Pune. Im very sorry you had to experience this. The thing is these rikshaw drivers have become gundas recently and they never charge appropriately. I myself don't take a normal rikshaw anymore. I use Uber for rikshaw or cab and the experience is good every time. I suggest ladies travelling alone and elderly people to use the same and I suggest you to do the same. People apparently start chatging foreigner tax and its inappropriate.
It’s such a shame that a small amount of people ruin it for others, but yes Uber is definitely the way to go it’s much safer and set price. The foreigner tax is a very real thing lol
Really sorry for the experience you had. As a local I have had similar experience once or twice. It is really unfortunate. I hope you have better next few days in India
Please do visit the nagpur region which is the vidharbha region as well. There are plenty of things to explore here full of flora and fauna. We'd like to show you everything here.
I am from Maharashtra. I leave in Pune for work ,really sorry for the incident happened with you. I will suggest you if you not getting uber taxi then try for Rapido cab app. Rapido company offers same rate around Uber and cab person take their order immediately because of low commission charge by company to cab drivers. I hope it will help you alot in Pune.
This happend with me also while returning from Pune railway station to home(Mid night) which was 7KM's. The driver agreed for 150/- (Which driver only demanded and we did not negotiate) and when we reached they demanded 250/- and on giving 150/- he started shouting in the society(I got embarrassed as my family was with me). In this case Uber and Rapido is good in fair rather taking Auto from locals. You did the right thing Charlotte.
sorry to hear that you had a bad experience in pune; I would suggest always having a local person with you guys from the city/state/country, as you're in a totally different country, GBU both!
Kindly use metro/uber/ola for daily commute..they're very reliable.. Insist on the meter if you're using the Tuktuk and use Google maps.. If you want one of a kind rusticy experience..Raviwar Peth lanes are the ones to visit..One walk over there is an experience in itself..Safe travels ❤🙏 Pune is generally very Safe..😊
I am from Pune. Feels sad to hear your experience. True, Pune is crowded now, it was not like this about 20 years back. Even though I am Indian, I get similar kind of tuk tuk experience when I visit other states where I don't understand local language .. 😅
Sorry to hear that. Even Indians sometimes have these experiences when they visit other parts of India. I had. It is not easy to advice. Try Uber, Ola or Metro if possible. In general, make doubly sure that the destination and amount are understood clearly. You may also demand that they charge based on the meter. Be firm and tell them upfront in simple language that you won't pay more. The list of dos and don'ts can be long. But I am sure you can learn this quickly and be safe!!
Rickshaws in Pune doesn’t operate on “Meter system”. Even locals get looted, if they don’t have tentative idea of prices. So most of the people prefer opting Uber and Ola apps.. Wish you a happy journey ahead.
Im really sorry you had to go through such a bad experience with the tuk tuk driver 😞. These drivers these days can be really rude. Better to opt for metro or an Uber. Other than that have a wonderful stay and a great time ❣️
While dealing with any rickshaw driver do double check with the destination and the fare they are charging. Confirm it before beginning the ride. This applies anywhere in India. And also the destination. Show it on Google maps to them if you want.
As a native of Pune city .. My apologies 🙏🙏🙏 .. Especially with the proliferation of Uber and OLA these Tuktuk drivers are even more frustrated because it has hampered their business and that frustration comes out in the ways you saw. You should have had noted his license plater number.
In which place you would like to go jut use ola, uber and rapido in these platforms you have more secure. We feel very bad for above mentioned so next you should remember while journey always use ola or uber. Best of wishes for your next vlog ❤. Love from india
I am sorry for the bad experience you had. But its same with us too these rickshaw walas are very rude. Always book with uber or ola. And about City being busy we're going through major infrastructural changes because of the construction of metro so thr traffic congestion has increased, the pune 5 years ago was peaceful and laidback, but once all the construction and other works are done hopefully we'll be back at what we were. I hope you visit again and have a safe journey ahead exploring India.😊😊

It doesnt happened to ya because ur tourist smh, it happened to me few times as well. I am marathi itself and lives in pune. Few of em tuktuk drivers are local goons and try to scam peeps by asking more money, you can book tuktuk or taxi on ola(uber like app and ola is more popular over here ) or uber when you travel around the city. They gives you fair prices and it's good for safety as well.
I bet it happens to people all the time but it’s definitely more likely to happen if you’re a tourist as they think you won’t know what the usual prices are. I have found Uber to be very good and will be sticking to it from now on 🙏🏻
Sorry to hear that mate. Well here in India if you see cabs available on uber or ola just grab those instead of relying on tuktuk unless its your hotel who is booking for you guys. Pune city has so much to enjoy be food, weather, scenic beauty, forts, waterfalls that one can easily stay 1-2 weeks here. Well take care guys ^^
It's unfortunate experience with the tuk-tuk. As a native of Pune, I can assure you that the city is generally safe. Despite this, Pune's residents are generally supportive and willing to assist in such situations. Additionally, apps like Uber and Ola are available in most Indian cities, and I encourage using them for safer travel. Local delicacies like Puran Poli, Misal Pav, and Bhakri are worth trying. You’ll also find high-end restaurants and street food, catering to different palates. Well-Connected to Major Tourist Destinations Pune is conveniently located close to popular tourist spots like Mumbai, Goa, and Aurangabad (home to Ajanta and Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site). This makes it an excellent starting point for exploring other regions of India. Shopping and Markets Pune has various shopping options, from modern malls to traditional bazaars. Areas like Laxmi Road and Tulsi Baug are famous for traditional handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs. Pune offers a harmonious mix of tradition and modernity, making it a pleasant and enriching experience for international travelers.
I have been living in Pune for over 20 years now, and rikshaw (metered) is my absolute last resort when it comes to public transport. If you have to, check if there are any shared rikshaw stops, as the prices are fixed for rides in them.
@@Charlottemihell my suggestion would be as foreigner stay away from shared transport either, its risky thing to do specially in night time, ola and uber are safe
I am from Pune. A Marathi speaking person. There are some Rikshawalas(tuktuk) who are very rude and try to over charge. In Pune or Mumbai always ask them to use meter. Dont fix any price. Uber or Ola are always better option. You can book tuktuk from these app too. There are few idiots there too. So check their rating. I generally cancel low rated ones generally below 4.6 I think your hotel was near Bund Garden area from the map shown. There is direct metro available from Agakhan Palace to Bund Garden. Its hardly 2-3 stops and 5 min travel time. Sinhagad is better to visit on non rainy day. Trek is also good there. At last I hope you enjoyed Pune's traffic😂 According to a recent survey, its 2nd worst in India after Bangaluru.
Never go by local guys with any cash specially in pune. Use uber/ola/rapido for traveling, it is so much comfortable and peaceful. Wish you happy journey for rest of your holidays.

You should have shot a video of the altercation that you had with the Rickshaw driver and posted it on UA-cam. That way, he would have got exposed. And believe me, but some times, authorities do take Suo moto notice of such incidents of harassments of tourists & foreign nationals and punish the culprits. More over, it is not JUST about punishing the person but, a stitch in time will dissuade him and other cons like him from harassing foreign tourists who visit. So, yes it is very unfortunate that such an incident occurred with you guys. And such things shouldn't happen in the first place to good visitors like you. The only thing you missed was that, you should have shot a video. While during day take Tuk Tuk. During night and rains always priotise on Uber/Ola for your safety. Pune City is slowly turning into Birmingham, UK. The Local Management and the one sitting on power have nothing to do except pass the buck. Enjoy your stay, Miss.
I will definitely be using Uber or Ola from now on. I’m sure a lot of people love the busy city but it can be a crazy place!
@@Charlottemihellthe rates are also less prone to manipulation if you book via Uber or ola . Plus you get all the safety features too .
I would hope that those issues change for the people living in Pune as it’s not easy to get around at all
@@Charlottemihellthis will never change city is over populated because of migration from north india

Even we the locals are fed up of certain rickshaw drivers and other public who arent living the cultural values of the city. Too many people now in pune from all over and are not maintaining the warmth and safety this city once had.
Honestly even though india is kind of chaotic you will be safe unless you go to shady areas like old delhi or dharavi etc.

While dealing with any rickshaw driver do double check with the destination and the fare they are charging. Confirm it before beginning the ride. This applies anywhere in India. And also the destination. Show it on Google maps to them if you want.
Yes I did so in this video, I showed him the location on maps and checked it was 100 rupees. So he still was just trying to scam us
As a native of Pune city .. My apologies 🙏🙏🙏 .. Especially with the proliferation of Uber and OLA these Tuktuk drivers are even more frustrated because it has hampered their business and that frustration comes out in the ways you saw.

They gives you fair prices and it's good for safety as well.
I bet it happens to people all the time but it’s definitely more likely to happen if you’re a tourist as they think you won’t know what the usual prices are. I have found Uber to be very good and will be sticking to it from now on 🙏🏻
sorry you had to gone through this. Some people are not humble and thats the prime example of this
Take OLA Indian version of Uber even i don't directly take service from autowalas
Sorry to hear that mate. Well here in India if you see cabs available on uber or ola just grab those instead of relying on tuktuk unless its your hotel who is booking for you guys. Hey, Charlotte this is Rohit, I'm really very sorry for what you went through.
Well-Connected to Major Tourist Destinations
Pune is conveniently located close to popular tourist spots like Mumbai, Goa, and Aurangabad (home to Ajanta and Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site). This makes it an excellent starting point for exploring other regions of India.
Shopping and Markets
Pune has various shopping options, from modern malls to traditional bazaars.
That is a great idea thank you 🙏🏻
@@Charlottemihell my suggestion would be as foreigner stay away from shared transport either, its risky thing to do specially in night time, ola and uber are safe
I generally cancel low rated ones generally below 4.6
I think your hotel was near Bund Garden area from the map shown. There is direct metro available from Agakhan Palace to Bund Garden. Its hardly 2-3 stops and 5 min travel time.

Also the Beautiful Shaniwar Wada was burned down by British in 1830's to destroy records of taxation and agreements between various kings and Maratha Peshwas...

@@kusumrao4617 it is a great experience riding through the hills on a bike! the engine was on the whole time up and down, and it didn’t make much difference to the journey time either way as the slopes aren’t very steep. It took about 1.5 hours both ways from/to Pune. Thank you for your comments i appreciate it :) have a great time visiting Sinhagad fort
You should definitely visit Konkan and specially Sahyadri tiger reserve
That's how they behave with the locals as well, unfortunately. In such situations, you must
pretend to call police by dialing 100 or
negotiate price by paying 20-30 extra (max 50) or
JUST WALK AWAY , using Google maps to reach your destination.
BE STERN, DON'T LET THEM TOUCH YOU / GRAB YOU (feel free to thre@ten them with v!olence if necessary - sorry, have to suggest this to you).
Wherever in the world you go, treat kind people with kindness, goons with goonery (where possible) !!
Really sorry for what you guys have to go through. It is such a shame for us I'll suggest Tuk Tuks aren't safe so you guys should go for Uber or a government bus and metro it will be frustrating for some days but once you get used to you don't have to face such people. Have a great journey ahead!
You should have used the OLA/UBER app to book your rides. It's the most connvenient option.
Would you pay that money for her every time? And sometimes they ask you to raise the money or otherwise pay all him without paying commission to cab company without considering safety
@@Kunal5gyes, I would. I'm street smart and I've avoided overpaying even in Europe and South-East Asia
I think, he would have got scared of doing those things on camera coz, it would have left evidence of his misbehavior plus, his face would then be seen by millions on UA-cam, including the authorities.
@@KartikKumar-hc5iz I agree I should have recorded it and got his number plate etc but at the time I was caught off guard and didn’t think about those things. If I had any information about him I would have reported it to the police so it couldn’t happen to anyone else, it’s a shame he will still be out there probably doing the same thing to others :(
If possible can you update photo of his tuk tuk need NO PLATE.....
WE PUNE KAR WILL TAKE CARE OF THIS VERY WELL...
PLEASE DO SHARE PHOTO OF THAT PERSON
Mam is an Indian I am very sorry for the rode behaviour of the tuktuk driver, mam next time if you experience any such thing please dial 100 in whichever Indian City you are police will be there in minutes to help you.
complaint on MADAD portal of the Government of India which is a Consular Grievances Monitoring System.
yes people of pune are very rude, they do not like outsiders coming in...
Do you remember the number of tuktuk? Please share if you remember.
Always take a photo of rikshaw in case of dispute, and don't engage with aggressive people. And also always make uber or ola. Keep phone number of police helpline handy. Stay safe!
