I am a Japanese living in India. Some comments say that it is due to bad infrastructure and the government in India. But every time I go out, I see many people throw away trash randomly, piss at walls of someone’s houses, spit suddenly on the street, and just make janitors clean place where they extremely scattered garbage. Even educated or wealthy Indians do the same. From my eye, it’s not a issue related to economics or politics, dut education from the top to bottom.
This is why, as someone from India, I prefer staying indoors with my whirring air conditioner rather than stepping out for anything except going to work.

Despite the nonsense most Indians will tell you about how the state of India is all because of the Brits, it really does boil down to the will of the people. If you're still in India, try visiting a military cantonment if the city you're in has one. The difference you'll see between the military governed area and the civil lines right next to it is insane! All cantonments are as clean as anything in the west. In fact, one of the saddest observations I've made was realizing what sort of people in India lay down their lives for what sort of people.
Interesting viewpoint. You are right actually. As someone who grew up in these cantonments I can vouch for it. Having said that, there is a rather similar story I read about the stark difference between the cantonments in Pakistan vs the civilian areas. I think it was in the 60s. That was approximately when people in that country were suddenly made aware of the difference in the 2 (army vs civilian government) and suddenly, the army became popular in Pakistan. Fast forward many years later and the army there is some kind of frankenstein. Supposedly, and this is debatable, the fact that the government can still control the army in India is the reason why India didn't turn into a military dictatorship like Pakistan.

I always say this to everyone wanting to visit India - Indian cities are amongst the worst places to visit in India. I know it's a general thing for any traveller to visit the big cities in a country, but Indian cities aren't worth it. Once you get out of them and go to smaller towns or the countryside, you'll have way better experiences. I think India's true soul lies outside its big cities.
I completely agree that India's infrastructure is not par with the rest of the world, but keep in mind that eminent domain law is not applied in India like the rest of the world. So, the government has a hard time building better infrastructure in existing cities. By no means is this the only reason. Culture is taken into consideration, but the modern government has a really uphill battle.
I am going to put these in the simplest terms: 1. All human rights is considered equal as property rights. 2. A person who owns the property has the right to make the decision first, and not even the state/government can make the decision for him or her for the community good. and lastly very important: Third, the Lockean idea of constitutional protection of private property is based on the notion that rights are not created by the constitution, but are only protected by it. Such an understanding implies that the constitution and the sovereign cannot take away property involuntarily. So, you see the problem of infrastructure in old cities (the land owner does not want to give an inch for expansion of a road or side walk), that is why there is a push for new/smart cities, but because of India's corrupted bureaucracy it is moving at snails pace. India has lots of flaws, but on equal side it has greater good also. Thank you.
Thats why indians are leaving india. Poor infrastructure, no architecture, bad quality of life, life threatening situations, and stupid politics. As an indian myself, i would have left india if was i was not patriotic. I have resources and I can move to UAE but i want to contribute in indian success. but still India as a 5th largest economy has failed to provide quality life and safety to its citizens. Dirt, pollution or Crowded streets is not the problem for me, it is the scammers which creates problem. I visited India last year, taxi driver to Local shops, everyone tried to scam me.

I'm chinese living in usa. I travelled in india for a month two years ago. I think Chennai is already one of the better cities in India. There are areas that look clean and decent. I do recall, mostly in other cities, street can be very hard to walk on. honking all the time, no separate road for pedestrians ... certainly not enjoyable. I like Indian people though they are very friendly.
I agree with everything - the filth, the pollution, the traffic, the non-existent pedestrian infrastructure - except for the claim about cash. Perhaps it's not the case for visitors, but most local transactions are done through phone payments.
@@InvestedAdventure sorry. What I mean is that people like to make out India as this big royal country with no problems at all. But you show off India for what it is in just one video, a grimey, chaotic place. Sorry if my comment seemed too confusing 😂. But nice going man.
I never understand why some people, especially from Western countries, visit poorer countries and complain about every single thing? One has to keep a broad mind should the person visit India. India is such a big country and has so much to offer. You need an open mind to experience the complexity and its diverse nature, culture, food, monuments, and many other things. You do not go to India looking for exactly the same facilities that your country has. I am sorry but you sound like Karen.
We, too, are not happy with the dirt and poor city planning, and we understand that it will take time to improve the standards. Public services and politics are not in the best form. I also believe that you may be accustomed to the comforts of your home country, and as a budget traveler, you should have the mental capacity to accept the place in its raw form and look for positivity. I can list many ways in which India is better than other places. We are a peaceful country, and we are proud of the progress we have made. Though the pace of progress may be slow, we are still moving forward, and that's fine. To all visitors planning to come to India, I would say that visiting India is an experience. After all, what's the point of tourism if every place looks and feels familiar?
Thanks for taking the time to share such a well thought out comment. I agree that travel is about local experiences, however, tourists looking for those can find them in so many other amazing countries (even just in SEA) that don’t involve the same risks to personal safety through roads, hygiene, pollution, poor accommodation and scamming that it really isn’t worth it

I believe this to be true. Thanks for the tip regarding cantonments. I’ll be sure to check them out when I’m next there
Interesting viewpoint.
Trash cans are next to nonexistent in India. How do you expect people to not litter?
@@Insomnia19101 They can keep their thrash till they get home. Or, do they not know that throwing stuff around will make the country dirty?
@@Insomnia19101 Taiwan has pretty much zero trash cans even in the capitol yet people know better than throwing trash on the streets. If you don’t live in a serviced apartment building you just wait in the street for the garbage truck to collect your trash at fixed hours. Also food/drink vendors who sell you products generally collect the trash from you after you’re done eating/drinking. Works like a charm here.

So right!
I haven't heard about domain law - what's the history of this in India?
I am going to put these in the simplest terms:
1. All human rights is considered equal as property rights.
2. A person who owns the property has the right to make the decision first, and not even the state/government can make the decision for him or her for the community good.
and lastly very important:
Third, the Lockean idea of constitutional protection of private property is based on the notion that rights are not created by the constitution, but are only protected by it.
