Moral of the story: disassemble the entire sprayer before conversion
My original thought was actually to use basically a cheap 12v tire inflator with a port in the top of the tank (maybe just install a tire shrader valve) to pressurize it. I feel like it would be fairly easy but kinda depends on the volume of air the inflator can produce and how to control the pressure. I think this design would have 2 advantages though… 1 - less modification so you could still use it like a normal pump sprayer 2 - no worrying about chemicals degrading pump
The pressure is in the bottle pressure tank, not the entire tank, so I'm not sure that would work. You would still have to remove all the internal components. Also as the tank empties, the tire inflator would have a lot of air volume to fill.
It would probably work with a hand can sprayer.
I've considered this as well but I think that tiny inflator piston would just have a hard time keeping up with the CFM needed. That's why I ended up here looking for a DIY battery sprayer.
Hell of a clever idea. Ive got the parts ordered to convert one to use Milwaukee batteries. One thing I thought of after ordering is the Milwaukee red lithium batteries have built in over discharge protection: the 12v limiter I picked up actually has one built in as well (allegedly). I'm unsure if those DeWalt batteries your using has it or not.
According to DeWalt their battery packs don't have over discharge prevention built in. I know several other brands do. I used DeWalt because thats the platform I'm invested in with all my hand tools.
@@petedymond This was a great and useful video...much appreciated! in this video you said you used it a bit and still had 2 bars of battery left over. Is the dishcharge preventer needed if i don't plan to fully run down a battery (5AH or 8AH)? just trying to save me some $ and minimize components going bad. I’m planning on using makita 18v with a step down converter to get to 12 (or 13). Anyone used a step down converter for this?
