Blood brother can also refer to someone who you've made a blood pact with to be brothers, which would mean that they aren't actually related. We do know that they were both on Roger's ship together when they were young and their interactions were like two brothers so a better translation would probably be that they were "like brothers".
Luffy and crew were unknowingly being followed by Blackbeard and crew. This was during Jaya. I think the Straw hats getting launched by the knock up stream is how they avoided Blackbeard. I'd have to go back and look to be sure. But I think Blackbeard sees the crew flying upwards.
Impel Down arc was an amazing arc. To see Luffy tries to save Ace only to see him once again sharing a screen with past enemies. Luffy and Buggy interaction was hilarious. To see Buggy and Mr.3 together was comedy. To see Luffy and Crocodile fighting side by side was a shock but I can't lie I loved the team up. Jimbe is an amazing character. To see Mr. 2 sacrifice himself to make sure Luffy and the others escape the prison was shocking. But made me respect him even more. This review was a joy to listen to. Blackbeard was paying attention to that and afterwards he literally saw Luffy’s ship shoot into the sky. Since Luffy isn’t dead and at the bottom of the sea Blackbeard can reasonably assume Luffy made it to Skypeia.
This arc was chaos incarnate and I love it. It was entirely character-driven, truly a testament of how great those characters are. I also loved Oda's approach with the okama and newkama which in any other story I think would've been considered bad stereotypes if not even offensive, while Oda takes those characters, that in-story are even called degenerates by many, and makes you LOVE them just by showing how awesome they are. He is basically saying "if you can love the worst representation of someone, surely you have no excuse now, don't you?". The thing that makes Luffy and Blackbeard different is their approaches to their philosophies. Blackbeard is more do what you want with as much chaos as possible while Luffy is more do what you want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. I think it very interesting to have an antagonist that the main protagonist can agree with which is rare for Luffy since most of his enemies he heavily disagrees with their ways. Also Blackbeard knows Luffy made it to skypiea due to his giant shadow after ringing the bell of shandora which is how noland descendant knew skypiea was real.
Going through your video as you make points. Buggy plays off of Luffy wonderfully and I think part of that is that Oda has set them up as opposing foils to each other; like polar opposites. Luffy cares about the adventure of pirating while Buggy is after the loot and they are opposites in just about every other metric you can compare them on. With that in mind, I think Buggy does feel bad about some things, like Luffy is so trusting that it makes Buggy feel bad with him thinking "You shouldn't trust a scoundrel like me." That said, Buggy is very able to get over those feelings because, again unlike Luffy, Buggy is looking out for himself first and foremost. Side note - Buggy's hair has always been like that since he was introduced. His hair was hidden in his original outfit because he styled it into pigtails that came out the sides of his hat to look like tassels. Magellan is definitely one of the scariest threats that Luffy or anyone else ever faces since his power makes it so difficult to combat him when only ranged attacks have no risk of poison. If you ever see the anime version of Luffy's fight with him, it's gut wrenching seeing Luffy struggle through the pain and the screams when he does get poisoned. This is also one of the most stark examples of Luffy's recklessness in that he willingly chose to sacrifice his arms just to get a chance to beat Magellan. On your later point for Mr.2, pretty much everyone gives him a pass in that situation because he tried to think of a single way he could help in a constructive way. Seeing none, he chose to run and he was clearly completely distraught over his own choice. Yeah, regarding the Boa situation, when Luffy said Thank You, she misread his lips for the interpretation. Only benefit of the doubt I can give Boa is that Luffy is likely the first man to ever be immune to her powers; meaning he was the first to not see her as a kind of object of lust. So between that and Luffy punching that Celestial Dragon, he is probably the one man she feels safest around and that and his purity of heart that he'd displayed is what she fell head over heels for. I really feel for Garp in these arcs because he is a grandparent who clearly had to step into the void of Luffy and Ace's parents. On top of that, he's a man of the law who wanted more than anything for them to grow up on the right side of the law. As a kind of real world parallel, it would be like if Garp was a police officer who raised Luffy and Ace only for them to become gang members. Obviously he wants to help, but he can only do so much for them given the choices they made and the situation those choices have landed them in. That cut in to Ace talking to Luffy as a child is real heart wrenching with the juxtaposition of him being lead away in chains, but I would challenge you to question why they were talking like that even as children. In Mr. 3's case, he is definitely like Buggy Lite in that he has enough of a conscious that acts of sacrifice or kindness that he benefits from pull on those shriveled old heart strings of his. Also, unlike Buggy, Mr. 3 is one of the few inmates to express lasting remorse over Mr. 2's sacrifice. Yeah, Impel Down is the beginning of Blackbeard's schemes coming to light. The only plan that Blackbeard cares about is his own plan. I also appreciate just how Chaotic Neutral Blackbeard is; honestly one of the more evil alignments in the morality chart despite it being "neutral" and there being literal "evil" alignments. What I mean by calling him chaotic neutral is that Blackbeard is a kind of dark version of Luffy. They both value freedom and dreams, but Blackbeard's views of freedom have no brakes; he misses the turn for freedom and goes straight to anarchy. Because of that, while Blackbeard is out for himself, he doesn't put people down for their own goals and ideals in most cases. The only times Blackbeard confronts people on these points are if they directly clash with his own goals or, in Hannyabal's case, they try to draw absolutes between what is "good" and what is "evil." Blackbeard's line when he knocks out Hannyabal says a lot about Blackbeard's world view. Invankov is really interesting and also a walking, hee-hawing, Tim Curry's Dr. Frankenfurter reference. Also, Ivankov is supposed to be a kind of germanic name so you got the first half right - (E-von-kahv). But yeah, I love how he's ride or die as soon as he realizes who Luffy is exactly and then makes the connection to Ace. He'd do anything for his friends which says a lot about Dragon as well. Jinbei is a pretty great character in this arc and I'd consider him in my top 3 for the arc despite him only taking an active role near the end. In that time, he shows his loyalty to Whitebeard and his concern for the peace of the world at large with his protest of the execution/war with Whitebeard. He's also clearly wise and I love this advisor/knowledgeable uncle role he's slid into with Luffy. Specifically when he talks Luffy down from trying to fight Blackbeard, because he recognizes that Luffy would gain nothing and only lose precious time trying to fight Blackbeard then. He is also so clutch in getting them out of Impel Down since nobody else could have gotten them a ship to escape on. While Jinbei is top 3, there can only be one MVP and that has to go to Bon-chan and the power of his friendship with Luffy. I so wanted to hype up Bon Clay back in Alabasta and it was because of his return in this arc. When Mr. 2 considers you a friend, he will go above and beyond all reasonable metrics to protect his friends. I would definitely recommend watching his anime episode for the ending if you want a good cry; the music is fantastic. In case you're curious, it's episode 451. Also, regarding the part where you mentioned him singing, he was actually reciting a haiku about his friendship with Luffy. He did the same thing when he sacrificed himself for the strawhats in Alabasta. But yeah, a definite watch moment when he shouts SATISFACTION!! Chills. Cant wait for your reaction to Marineford. You aren't ready for how crazy it gets, but don't feel bad; nobody ever is. Sorry if this short story is a bit much to read.

I think part of the reason why so many people like Crocodile is the literary truism that everybody hates the monster that is trying to destroy them, but love the monster that changes to now be on their side. Crocodile, as a character, is cool, collected, calculating, competent, and classy. He has a sense of elegance and standards to him that is undeniable. And during Alabasta, when he was the main villain our crew was fighting against, all of that was being brought to bare against us, which was terrifying and triggered the "hate" reaction even more. However, now that he isn't directly opposing us but is actually aiding us, it becomes a lot easier to recognize, appreciate, and even admire all of the qualities that make him so formidable and charismatic. Trust me, there are a LOT of Crocodile simps out there, and don't even get me STARTED on femme Croc (which is very much a thing, with fan theories attached).
Crocodile might still be my favorite villain. You should hear his voice it's perfect for him. When he first stabs through Luffy in Alabasta and says "Who do you think I am?". Chills. What an unexpected arc, right? Oda finds a way to lend a crew to Luffy while the Strawhats are separated. Bon Chan is best boi ever. Ivankov is incredible his aesthetics are based on Tim Curry's character from Rocky Horror Picture. And I believe Impel Down is loosely modeled after the 7 rings of Hell from Dante's Inferno. Always a lovely review really can't wait for the next one. Oda for the first time ever took a month long break after it sooo it's a doozy. Til next time, READ 😾

This arc and marineford had my stress and anxiety through the roof!! It was to the point where my husband (who is caught up) told me I wasn't allowed to watch it when I was home alone 😂 there were just really high highs and really low lows. I was so concerned for luffy during the fight with Magellan and Mr. 2 had me absolutely sobbing. Be prepared for more stress! Everything really ramps up, I can't wait to see how you feel at the end of it!

In one moment a person is a hated enemy and in the other this person is a beloved comrade. Tbf, Crocodile always had a cool and chill attitude, but he was way more arrogant before, but now as a comrade, he feels more chill and humble. 32:15 Mr. 2/ Bon Clay/ Bentham is a true friend! His sacrifice is one reason why he's one of the fan favorites. 33:30 Marineford is a strong contender for the best One Piece arc! I dont think Luffy is as much of reckless as he has good instincts. When he punched a celestial dragon, its like if he realizes that if he looks the other way, he wont ever have what it takes to be pirate king, he'll be like all the others When he rushes headlong into fighting the strongest guy, like Magellan, its not just him discarding plans, but he realizes that no matter what, Magellan is the guy who'll be problem and he has to get through him to meet his goal. He has to fight stronger guys in future, so he cant back down now. There are examples in future, where Luffy goes out of his way to fight the right opponent no matter how unbeatable he seems, when he could've made an easy escape. Though saying that, once he has met his goal or done what he wants to do, he is more than happy to make an escape at full speed We all love Luffy as a person, Hancock on the other hand is a full on Luffy simp. Also, you are not alone, Ace is one of the most beloved characters On another note, you should really watch anime, at least some moments like Crocus's introduction or Robin's 'I want to live' moment, but maybe catch up to manga first so you wont get any unintentional spoilers

Impel Down arc shows what happens when Luffy greatest strength his crew isn't around. He's a natural leader able to get allies cause his personality! The pain and enemies he goes through to save his brother is intense. You believe Luffy can save Ace no matter what great set up for next arc.

While Jinbei is top 3, there can only be one MVP and that has to go to Bon-chan and the power of his friendship with Luffy. I so wanted to hype up Bon Clay back in Alabasta and it was because of his return in this arc. When Mr. 2 considers you a friend, he will go above and beyond all reasonable metrics to protect his friends. I would definitely recommend watching his anime episode for the ending if you want a good cry; the music is fantastic. In case you're curious, it's episode 451. Also, regarding the part where you mentioned him singing, he was actually reciting a haiku about his friendship with Luffy. He did the same thing when he sacrificed himself for the strawhats in Alabasta. But yeah, a definite watch moment when he shouts SATISFACTION!! Chills.

I think part of the reason why so many people like Crocodile is the literary truism that everybody hates the monster that is trying to destroy them, but love the monster that changes to now be on their side.
Crocodile, as a character, is cool, collected, calculating, competent, and classy. He has a sense of elegance and standards to him that is undeniable. And during Alabasta, when he was the main villain our crew was fighting against, all of that was being brought to bare against us, which was terrifying and triggered the "hate" reaction even more. However, now that he isn't directly opposing us but is actually aiding us, it becomes a lot easier to recognize, appreciate, and even admire all of the qualities that make him so formidable and charismatic.
Trust me, there are a LOT of Crocodile simps out there, and don't even get me STARTED on femme Croc (which is very much a thing, with fan theories attached).

Crocodile might still be my favorite villain. You should hear his voice it's perfect for him. When he first stabs through Luffy in Alabasta and says "Who do you think I am?". Chills. What an unexpected arc, right? Oda finds a way to lend a crew to Luffy while the Strawhats are separated. Bon Chan is best boi ever. Ivankov is incredible his aesthetics are based on Tim Curry's character from Rocky Horror Picture. And I believe Impel Down is loosely modeled after the 7 rings of Hell from Dante's Inferno. Always a lovely review really can't wait for the next one. Oda for the first time ever took a month long break after it sooo it's a doozy. Til next time, READ 😾

Everything about Impel Down is great! I love pretty much all of Oda-sensei 's characters, so it was so good seeing some of them again after such a long time. I love the dynamics between them and Luffy and how the arc manages to balance comedy and drama so perfectly.
I so agree with you on Buggy's prison style! He looks so good with his hair like that and the fitted clothes!
I can talk for hours about the various characters but you covered beautifully all my main points, and I am so happy for it.
Like others said before, as far as we know Shanks and Buggy are not blood related, but you never know when sensei is going to throw us a curve ball...

This arc and marineford had my stress and anxiety through the roof!! It was to the point where my husband (who is caught up) told me I wasn't allowed to watch it when I was home alone 😂 there were just really high highs and really low lows. I was so concerned for luffy during the fight with Magellan and Mr. 2 had me absolutely sobbing.
Be prepared for more stress! Everything really ramps up, I can't wait to see how you feel at the end of it!

I dont think Luffy is as much of reckless as he has good instincts.
When he punched a celestial dragon, its like if he realizes that if he looks the other way, he wont ever have what it takes to be pirate king, he'll be like all the others
When he rushes headlong into fighting the strongest guy, like Magellan, its not just him discarding plans, but he realizes that no matter what, Magellan is the guy who'll be problem and he has to get through him to meet his goal. He has to fight stronger guys in future, so he cant back down now. There are examples in future, where Luffy goes out of his way to fight the right opponent no matter how unbeatable he seems, when he could've made an easy escape. Though saying that, once he has met his goal or done what he wants to do, he is more than happy to make an escape at full speed
We all love Luffy as a person, Hancock on the other hand is a full on Luffy simp. Also, you are not alone, Ace is one of the most beloved characters
On another note, you should really watch anime, at least some moments like Crocus's introduction or Robin's 'I want to live' moment, but maybe catch up to manga first so you wont get any unintentional spoilers

Impel Down arc shows what happens when Luffy greatest strength his crew isn't around. He's a natural leader able to get allies cause his personality! The pain and enemies he goes through to save his brother is intense. You believe Luffy can save Ace no matter what great set up for next arc.
