@@taddei3912 actually , she did mention being around her younger brother who was into metallica and whitesnake..but that was not her preferred genre at the time..but she started to appreciate it once she auditioned for Tuomas

Love the old Nightwish with Tarja, I love all 3 singers but the history of Nightwish and all the great memories with Tarja, So Beautiful and Sad. We always cry with you Kelly and thank you for giving her a fair chance.
My most favorite song by the indomitable Tarja Turunen!! When she rises out of her Mezzo and soars up into her Soprano it's like I'm lifted up into Valhallah. Thank you Kelly for bringing this monumental song back for us!!
"Swanheart"... my hidden gem of a song for 20+ years. Even people who go all ga-ga over NIGHTWISH sometimes do not know the song. I hope each of them discovers it, as this deserves a place in everyone's life. While the performance is... deeply touching and artful. Enough said.
so beautifully put...regrettably, many new NW fans seem to forget that Tarja era was the solid foundation upon which today's NW was built and without it the edifice of NW would not be standing nearly as firmly...

sure is...i wonder why Tuomas has removed the vocal part of this song...leaving only the instrumental...
It may be underrated because it's a metal band, and this is far from what metal people typically like to listen. They rather listen some kick-ass heavy stuff.
But of the early NW songs, this gives the singer really the whole visibility, while the band is behind, same as in Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan.
@@Aurinkohirvi absolutely my take on it too..awfully sad though, because metal ballads are usually so beautiful...and without discounting the rest of the band , to me Tarja was always the main attraction and having as little background noise as possible helps to bring her splendor to the fore for everyone to fully appreciate...when i first heard her voice back in the late 1990s, my jaw dropped..and she still amazes me with each new performance

This is the heart and soul of Nightwish that Floor will never be able to touch. Floor is a shell of what nightwish used to be
and a shell of herself as well...hopefully, Tuomas did not bring this about

Tarja is utterly incomparable.. after they made her they broke the mold in too many places to ever reconstruct ... when i see her on her knees, at home trying to entertain us in this corona period, i feel so unworthy of her sweet, generous nature

Thanks for doing this review! Although I'm a huge Nightwish fan, I've never heard of this song. An absolutely astounding operatic performance by Tarja! Very emotional and moving!
she does an equally incredible job on every song in this concert....
and that is the staunchly consistent, resonant, captivating raw power that only Tarja can so satisfactorily offer...love you Tarja!

This is my favourite Nightwish song. I think I have and I must have requested it before. I like her solo version more with the orchestra, it sounds just that more magical.
Oh yeah and there's that she sang it with orchestra many years later. And even though I dig her NW-years, she has improved after Nightwish. I suppose orchestra lets her voice be heard better, but there is the first mentioned issue too.
When I watched the new DVD "Decades" a while back, I heard this song and was disappointed that they didn't do the vocal part. I love this song and Tarja sings it wonderfully, but I think Floor could have done it justice as well. She has pulled off many Tarja-era songs with her own flair. This one would be very, very tough to top though. So beautiful! Cheers!
if he was to leave it in i would presume she would be using her supersoft approach she did in sleeping sun...yah i always wondered why he removed the vocal part of such an iconic song...must be related to his desire to banish all things Tarja from his mind
I've heard Floor sing once a Nightwish song with her classical approach, the Stargazers in Wembley. She usually sings them classical songs with contemporary style, same as Anette did with Tarja's songs.
@@Aurinkohirvi still looking for this incredible diversity with which current Floor is supposed to approach singing for NW..all i have heard thus far is very ordinary with a few escalations or supersoft on ballads

Nightwish is just more than Floor's great voice and presence. I have started my journey when I heard Nightwish's Lista Top40 program (what you can find from UA-cam). Tarja's Era was just amazing and everytime I hear these old ones from cd they bring memories of my past and my growth as well. Nowadays Floor gets the first attach to people and that's amazing too. I just love Nightwish, no matter who sings. It's foolish to compare all three great ladies in front of this band, they all are my heroes, nearly all my adult life... Thank you for your reviews!
Yah, I like all of them as well but to a varying degree...its only when I hear some miscreant make derogatory comments that I get involved
This is one of the most emotional and beautiful songs I know. And that includes also no-Nightwish songs. "Kuolema tekee taiteilijan" in Taubertal and in End of an Era is that same. Actually Tarja did also very nice "Ave Maria" version just after NW time...I believe in year 2006 in Sibelius Hall Lahti. That is pretty close to original in German language and only piano as instrumental part.
she rendered a number of Ave Marias, culminating with ave maria-en plein air...most amazing performance ever
So emotional this was and Tarja has a great voice ... I don't know but her singing style would have been even unique in this music genre when they started.
her vocal range is enormous but whatever key and register she chooses there is always a satisfying dark tincture accompanying it...just wonderous
how can anyone not fall in love with her after that performance, dead boy's poem and Kuolema tekee taiteilijan from the end of era dvd....
@@corections5068 Yes, "Kuolema tekee taiteilijan" is another one the true fan will point out. EVERY time I listen to that... and I only vaguely know the lyrics (for the uninitiated, they are in Finnish)... I shed a tear. If Tarja does not get me the first minute, the cello solo kills me for sure. :) Kelly, I think you are ready for this one!
Actually all three Nioghtwish women have almost identical vocal range. According to UA-cam vocalist range videos, Anette has the widest range, she gets a note lower than Floor and two notes lower than Tarja, Tarja gets a note higher than Anette and Floor. Vocal range isn't where their difference is.
there something so lovable about Annette...her vocal style is somewhat eclectic and every time I see her she endears herself to me more and more...may be its due, in part, for her dislike of Tuomas...she makes herself quite clear on her odious feelings towards him

Those two are my favorite Tarja's Nightwish songs. And the two Nightwish songs that give the stage on the vocalist, the band staying behind.
@@Aurinkohirvi ya, her voices in those, although sang in different registers are just so beautifully rendered...the new NW fans just can't seem to appreciate Tarja ... feeling compelled to deconstruct NW's early foundational era while trying to erect the Floor era edifice over it....

i like Floor and Simone, Tarja was operating on an entirely different and advanced vocal model even back in 2000 at a tender age only 23.....she is the instrument thru which God speaks to us mortals

In 2014 during 3 nights in Eastern Europe as a solo artist.with her then drummer Mike Terrans she did a new version wuth a live.orchestra. Beauty and the Beast.
I wish you also reacted to the album version of this song. It’s truly amazing.

Kelly...its so wonderful of you to expose more NW fans to the splendor of the Tarja era...the new NW fans need to accept stark reality that Tarja has no peer..she is in a class all by herself with the most expansive vocal range...this song is performed by NW today, but without Tarja's vocal part..all that remains is the instrumental portion...Tuomas's desire to banish all things Tarja from his mind..i would assume..such a beautiful song .pity. you will find the entire "from wishes to eternity" dvd full of these testaments to her divine vocals
All Nightwish singers have pretty much same vocal range, it's a non-issue when talking about them.
Well, I'm in the opinion that all Tarja's songs are not good for Floor, but Floor fans would of course disagree. I also have a hunch Swanheart may be too personal song for Tuomas, and it may have to do with Tarja, too. Maybe he doesn't want it be sung by someone else.

Floor is nothing. It's a glorified cover band at this point and very forgettable
@@angryalanrants9574 as talented a i know Floor to be by hearing her performances in her former bands and away from NW, i agree with you that Floor's today's vocal model is rather unremarkable and the melodies are somewhat repetitive...

I remember an interview when Nightwish were looking for a new vocalist after Tarja. Tuomas was asked if they were looking for someone who could sing like Tarja and his reply was "I don't think there's anyone else on the planet who can sing like Tarja" Besides, they were looking for something different.

My favorite vocalist song in Nighwish: this and "Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan" gives the stage for the vocalist. And this is for classical vocals while Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan is for contemporary style.
I think the lyrics are again about Tuomas and his failure in real life love: he admittedly calls himself a poet in his songs.
Song's title obviously tells he has a swan's heart, but the lyrics tell he is otherwise Ugly Duckling, and he is envious to all those beautiful people (as this is Tuomas, it probably also means social skills in addition to physical attractivenes). "All those beautiful people, I want to have them all. All those porcelain models, if only I could make them fall." He seems to think that those beautiful people though, are hollow inside, it would show if he coule make them fall.
"In my world love is for poets, never the famous balcony scene. Just a dying faith on the heaven’s gate." This sounds like a love interest been rejected, or love that is beyond his reach. He'll never get the Romeo and Juliet balcony scene. He'll just has a dying faith, on the gate of his heaven. Makes you think, he is close to his love interest, but shut outside.
"Tonight another morn, for the lonely one is born." Here he establishes his path will be a lonely one.
i do not wish to make light of his lyrics but he seems to be very insecure, thus explaining his controlling attitude

and her solo material is super innovative and versatile
god i love floor , but this is magic, tarja at her very best
how else can one describe Tarja but utter perfection,,,Tuomas doesn't trust the most iconic NW songs: swanheart, walking in the air and until very recently, dead boys poem to be delivered by anyone other than this exquisite creature...and as talented as Floor is , this song sounded rather tame compared to Tarja's rich, deep, flowing version

Accepted. The "End of an Era" performance, stage presence wise, seems nervous at best, and uncomfortable at worst. Of course, with the benefit of the hindsight, we know the underlying reasons...
@@bigg2988 actually, she was unaware of her fate at the time of the concert...and the main reason was her weakened state due to the fever she was laboring under that entire day, retreating briefly after a few songs, in turn, to wash her face, a change of cloths, due to excessive perspiration and attempt at recovery, and then rushing back to the stage and whipping up her usual all out performances....right after which they called her a self-absorbed diva...one of Tuomas's classier moves...
@@faiffull3532 Well thanks for the factual info. Although fever, as you say, may have been the main culprit, the unease and tension within the group was palpable, and would be hard for any of them to ignore. So it probably "played into" the performance (not vocal delivery, which was class, but the stage presence).
I suppose the insults are directed to the "Wishmaster" song in End of an Era, where she squats once and shakes her hips. Hip shaking Tarja does actually quite often, still today, and I just love it. I don't find her stage presence any less in End of an Era concert - in fact I think she owns the stage. But interaction with the guys is less than earlier years, although with in Phantom of the Opera she still played the role with Marko. After NW she moves a lot more on the stage... early years she was much stationary, but stage became so familiar to her, she started to move more, nowadays she sometimes has so high energy on stage I call her a "duracell bunny," never stops moving.

Hello Xele elex1..... no offense taken, we understand and appreciate each have their unique voice added to this most epic and inspirational journey! Tarja is in a class all her own ,and that's a beautiful place to be!! Floor, brings a wonderful persona and voice as well...… and so the journey continues....
