Good job in this one Marco is the devil trying to have his way with Floor the Mermaid but she's having none of it .
Marko's Devil character is amorously pursuing Floor's Mermaid character. She is having none of it, and manages to get away.
Older song from their second album, Oceanborn(1998). Tarja sang it with guest male vocalist Tapio Wilska, as Marko wasn't in the band yet.
"Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" is in my top 10.
The performance is like one of those songs that is performed once in a lifetime.
Don't get me wrong, they probably will perform it in the future but this one here is a 50 pound diamond!!
Both vocal parts were perfectly performed and the music performance itself was absolutely flawless.
And please don't forget to give love to Kai, he absolutely killed it, AND made it look easy. 🤘
I swear, if you listen to the album version, it's like night and day. If I had a say, I would replace it with this one. But that's just me.

Marko and Floor are playing roles in this musical theater style song. Marko is the devil & Floor is playing the role of the spirit/mermaid of the ocean. Mako is amorously pursuing Floor's mermaid character. She escapes to live free in the ocean. So much fun.
This is the result when you combine amazing musicians with wonderful musical arrangement, as well as beautiful and emotionally charged poetic lyrics.
The genius of Tuomas sets this band apart from the other metal bands. It helps a little to have the Dutch Valkyrie queen of symphonic metal telling your stories with her world class charisma, stage presence, and beautiful voice!
A beautiful lady like Floor, only comes around once in a lifetime....
This performance is such a treat. The drumming, Marko's vocals, and to top it off the amazing box of vocal chocolates Floor is presenting here, it's perfection
You've seen the interview with Floor in the classroom when she told that after finishing the Rock Academy, she did extra studies in opera and music theatre. Well, this is exactly what you get from Floor here, because of the one of a kind chemistry between her and Marko on stage.
From the get go, Floor shines in her role and acts the part with everything she has, voice, movement, posture, facial expressions, hand gestures.. the works. So the music becomes much, much more than a great metal song and that is why live is always better with Nightwish. You want to see the whole, masterfully crafted performance.
Such a pity that songs like this one have become near impossible with Marko's departure. So hope that Tuomas will put Jukka's vocals on display in the new songs, perhaps even with some Wintersun-like vocal countermelodies. That would be most welcome! Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
Not too long and we're about to discover what kind of material is written/composed in the next upcoming album.
The demo for the whole album is done and the studio "rehearsals" said by K. Hahto, referring for the recording sessions, starts 1st of July 2023.
It'll be continuum as a third part of the trilogy following 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful' and 'Human :II: Nature' albums.
This is a true power duet. 💗👫
The thing that gets me about this performance? Floor was sick, I believe, with a flu-like sickness -- yet she still got up on stage, and still put out a powerful performance.

Been waiting for this one. One of my all-time favorite Nightwish performances. Love the theatrical nature, and it's performed and shot absolutely perfectly! My only complaint is that it's too short.

In a slightly longer video, Marko explains that the song is about this "guy" who is after a lady and she wants nothing to do with him. Well the "guy" is the devil and the lady is a mermaid (queen?), he goes after her and that starts a sort of underwater battle between them, that she wins at the very end, she is free from him, his wickedness, which has polluted the oceans with blood and horror.
PS: Nightwish is a 26 year old band, and they recently celebrated Floor's first decade with them 😊💖

This song is from the early years of Nightwish. They had that rapid drumbeat rhythm back then. I didn't like the original studio version because the original male singer's voice didn't really do it for me. But then I saw this live performance and it pushed the song easily in my top ten Nightwish songs. The combination of Marko and Floor's voices is perfection. I just love the part starting with her anguished scream and the vocalisations, and then the calm and hopeful ending verse comes in.
And you are right, they are having a conversation. Their two characters, the devil and the mermaid, talk through the lyrics of the song. That's partly why one of them sings a verse and the other another. Like a call and response.

Sometimes it's hard to tell what's most impressive about Floor, your voice or stage presence. I imagine live is even more impactful.❤🔥👨🏻🎤 I would like to make a special request, react to the presentation of the song Shoemaker in Hellfest 2022. It's an opportunity to understand why they call Floor a goddess.

Yes, this song is pure fire, the speed and everything. This was old Nightwish, time when I disscovered them over twenty years ago. I love them. I have now dived all your Nightwish reactions and want to say thank you. You're just so genuine and seemingly a great pair.
I want to introduce you, my newest discovery. They are Lovebites and they come from Japan. They play Heavy Metal and like Nightwish you discover everytime something new. Their songs have speed, uplifting lyrics, heaviness, virtuoso guitarduo, solid drum and bass harmonies and awesome singing. Also they write songs that bring emotions.. Just love them too... I would be very pleased if you would listen to them, and a good way to start would be the song called Shadowmaker, and I recommend to listen them live in Zepp Divercity in Tokyo 2020 or at Tokyo Dome in 2021. If you like this one you have to react to Slaying the dreamer from the same concert. :) There is nice little interaction between Marco and Floor :) Or maybe double reaction to original version with Tarja from End Of An Era DVD concert as well. Both versions kick ass, hard to pick favorite one. Worth to do them both, trust me :)

Oh my goodness what a treat this is. Marco and Floor back and forth framed and underpinned by genius multi layered instrumentation. First pause... "Are you alright" was gold 👀😂. Nightwish are next level compared to everything else that I have ever seen or heard and that includes Queen and many others. This is one of my favorite songs from an absolutely stellar set in Buenos Aires. I'll never tire of watching this show. It took a few times through this song before I caught just how amazing Kai's drumming is because it's hard to get past Marko and Floor. Excellent reaction, guys!

My girlfriend loves this performance. I played her the original album version and she hated it lol Barely sounds like the same song.
From a lot of bands I get the idea they write songs and then think "sounds good, we're done."
and there's nothing wrong with that, if that process works for them.
Thomas however, challenges everything he write. After he's done, he goes back and looks, " it's piano driven, would guitar be better, should it be slower or faster, is it in the right key?"
He doesn't proceed untill he is a 100% satisfied.
I think that has a lot to with why there are so little 'bad' Nightwish songs.

Another enjoyable reaction and such a performance this was! I suggest you check out Ayreon - Arjen Lucassens creation, where both Floor and Marko have been part of. All the albums are created in certain theme and story, Arjen uses lots of different vocalists. And then you can enjoy those live concerts like Ayreon Universe. I guarantee you both will like it! If you like this song, I am sure you would like one more, an old gem, live performance of "The Pharaoh sails to Orion". It is from 90's and Marco wasn't in the band yet, but for that song they had a special guest, Tapio Wilska from band Finntroll (and I loved Finntroll so much at one point... but that's another story). I think that was the first Nightwish song that took my breath away more than 20 years ago, even though I have never been a big Tarja's fan. I really hope you will get to that song once. 🖤
