I saw the present Met Hoffmann 2x this past week, once w/ debut tenor Kang and once w/ Grigolo whom I like a lot. I, also, saw this Shicoff Hoffmann 2x in 1988.His Hoffmann as well as his Romeo wth Malfitano, remain as some of the most overwhelming tenor performances I'v heard in 60 yrs.of opera going. He was probably the most emotionally expressive tenor I've ever heard and coupled with that gorgeous voice...! Sadly, the last time I heard him was a Met La Juive and he was indisposed, didn't finish the performance so he didn't get to sing "Raquel quand Du Seigneur". Thanks a million for this video.
Sadly we can't see the whole performance on UA-cam and I'm not an expert, I don't know how to post it. I found it for many years online, I don't know where anymore. Should be here for everyone to see it. :)
This is classic Shicoff; a role he was born to play by destiny. He makes the other Hoffmanns go pale in comparison. Neil Shicoff put his heart and soul into this one. It was perfect. I heard the Live Met broadcast and watched it over PBS but now I wish I could time travel back to 1988 to the Met and be there!! Bettter late than never. 62chairman1.
Nobody since this Lyric tenor retired replaced him and his tremendous squillo in house cannot be heard on recordings live or studio, you needed to be there!
SHICOFF. This guy is brilliant. (Not the Shicoff1 who posts on UA-cam, although he probably is) - I'm talking about NEIL SHICOFF that fantastic singer.

Very Beautiful. Shicoff is terrific
He had it all as a lyric tenor, plus lots of squillo in house in his best years .
