- I play a Magic: the Gathering Online Legacy league with a Necrodominance Combo Mill deck that seeks to assemble Sphinx's Tutelage or Teferi's Tutelage with Necrodominance for a one-shot kill via mill. Modern mill runs 4 surgical. Curious why that wasn't considered here

Most of this decklist is legal in modern. The duals, brainstorm, and the sideboard has some cards that aren't, but otherwise you can run this list in modern. Might be something to look into.
Mill is pretty decent in Modern, and yeah it looks a lot like this list. Drop the Brainstorms for Preordains and Sphinx's Tutelage for Fractured Sanity (the UUU spell that mills 14 or can be cycled to mill 4) and you get a list that could do well in a Modern challenge.
The tragedy of this league wasn't the result. It was how close the result was to being good in multiple matches

Phil, you understood the dominance attack. That was worth the decklist alone.
After league edit: there was a reason i had 4 leylines jammed into the board. The idea is to never want to be reactive to your opponents graveyard synergies. Leyline proactively kills their gameplan if they're reliant on the GY, preventing ANY shenanigans from catching us. It does slow us down, but we end up out edhing them by doing so.
being able to board in 4 laylines would have deff improved quite a bit here
Psychic frog in ninjas is neat. Gives an outlet for discarding the stuff like ornithopter after your ninjas get going
Finally, a deck that can run Darkness efficiently

There are few things in this game that I hate more than mill decks, but I think I could watch Phil play just about anything.
I feel that 1 or 2 urborgs might really help neco with the islands and the fields. Love the deck

I like it when powerful cards empower fringe archetypes, the problem is that they usually also make already powerful archetypes oppressive ;-)
Dark rituals could enable some pretty neat shenanigans, though it is a bit all in.

Fragile A plus B combo eithout any explosive ramp and that doesnt automatically kill is bold of you sir
i actually think mill did surpriseingly well however without the necro package its probably better.

The microphone settings (filters) are probably such that even if they did meow, the mic probably wouldn't pic it up. XD
Dont know i you seen this combo or not. But Sorin, of house markov is a new win con for Tin fins. As you can draw your deck with griselbrand a children of korolis then kill opponent with sorin trigger. Same as tendrils but you can reanimate it. Just a thought.
Legacy mill with leyline of the void and no helm?
Not sure why painter is not included. Necro, Grindstone, Painter, Necrodominance and maybe Archive trap look like enough mill to kick the other cards for relevant interaction. With painter it's mill out for sure, without it's likely
I think the deck has to fundamentally choose between crabs and combo, dropping some crabs for more spells/interaction or dropping spells for more land synergy for the crabs.

i assume before watching that this league will feature at least two mirror matches
Is there any chance this could fit in as an alternate win con in a Painter deck for those games where your opponent has nullrod or other interaction for the main combo? This relies on two enchantments while Painter is a two artifact combo. But Painter itself is a bonus "C" combo piece for the A + B of Necro and Sphinx that guarantees every pair of nonland cards share a color (doubling more triggers and lowering the required initial life total for a kill).
with how prevalent cards like Psychic Frog and Murktide as well as just graveyard based decks are in the legacy meta, I could see an argument for unbanning Deathrite Shaman
Then the decks with murktide and frog will just play drs and dumpster even more the other decks.

I'm going to level with you, it doesn't really feel like necrodominance is doing the thing. Crab and tasha are doing your work, I wonder if getting some nadu/shako action going could get it across the line.
I think a+b combo kill is where id rather have the dec tashas and others dont seem to be very good
And necro finds your b piece so id rather play a shell that puts necro out then uses it to find b and then win
Not that I think Mill is anywhere near viable in Legacy, but one thing you could try is just running playsets of both Surgical Extraction and Extirpate in the mainboard. With how much Reanimator there is right now, sniping common targets such as Grief and Troll from their graveyard before they get to cast their reanimate spells seems pretty good.
...okay, maybe "pretty good" is a stretch, but at least it sounds a lot better than turn 3 Sphinx's Tutelage into turn 4 Necrodominance lol

This build is pretty much Modern legal (Sans dual lands and Brainstorm), and even by those standards it still suffers from a lot of the points you make in the outro. The biggest problem is that the "combo" relies on you maintaining a life total, and mill is notorious for running on a razor's edge in that regard.
If this deck wants to be spicy, then they should drop all the 3-drops and start mainboarding Reanimates. Either you'll be able to bring back your Crabs for 1 life (Which can be important for a lot of games) or you end up using your opponent's deck against them. The postboard, you can go for more targeted gravehate options.

honestly? this looks like it should be in a modern format league instead of in legacy... anyone who is even remotely in the know of legacy would know that a deck like this would 0-5 a lot of leagues... you trade out the underground seas for shocks, and the force for the new one that requires a blue creature sac, and the brainstorms for preordain... and boom this deck is modern legal... and honestly? i could see a 3-2 result from it considering the modern format is oops all nadu and ruby storm... both decks kinda fail if they lose too many cards... so yeah... i feel like this was a mistake being put into legacy but a modern deck this might actually be a thing?
honestly if you want mill in legacy i think at this point i think the only "viable" deck in the format would be painter combo... it seems like the only deck i could think of that has the speed you need to be competitive in the current speed of the format and also resiliency... cause it doesnt matter what they can reanimate if they die at their draw step... and i think that painter might be the only "mill" deck that could reasonably keep up in the current climate of the format at hand...
