  • Hello Family,
Well, it has been a week since the end of my first season of ‘Let the Ancestors Speak’ . During our summer hiatus, new season coming in September, I have been thinking about expanding my Ancestral Arts channel to include Intergenerational Conversations. So when my goddaughter Amaya Noguera Mujica asked me if I would like to share some of my stories from my research, travel, and life experiences in an intentional way, I jumped at the chance.
We did a Facebook Live session and entitled it "Sankofa Palabra", a “space where one shares stories of Strength and Resiliency ". We wanted to see if FB Live was the kind of platform we wanted to use to create this place where we could model intergenerational value-based conversations that were organic and free-flowing.The response was overwhelmingly positive with people wanting more, so we decided to repost it on my UA-cam page.
In this low tech, at- home unscripted pilot, we talked about many things - Harriet Tubman’s multi-faceted legacy, ancestral resistance and honoring, the ancient origins of colorism, leadership in pandemic times, special distancing, collaboration, the necessity of developing long-haul strategies and the importance of uncomfortability and staying in the room. If you want to know more about Amaya and her work, go to latinoequityproject.com.
If you would like more intergenerational conversations with Dr. J/Auntie Joye, please let us know.
Take Care, With Love, Be Safe.

The background noise was very intense at times. It was hard to hear other than that, I was completely awestruck listening to this. I laughed and cried and further grew my appreciation for Harriet Tubman and how she was EVERY👏🏽 WOMAN👏🏽. Trying to get involved in my own predominately-white community without a strong, unified black community that wants to fight WITH me, its my biggest challenge. The community here is so fractured and we as individuals are so wrapped in their own generational trauma one generation or two removed from the great migration. This conversation helps keep me motivated and focused.

Persist! What you seek is seeking you. You will be victorious but sometimes it seems as if only defeat stares you in the face. Follow the drinking gourd in the sky and you will know that you aren't alone. It's what Harriet did. So can you. Asè
