I don't get why anyone from South Africa would seek to emigrate, other than economic reasons. South Africa is corrupt, and still suffers from the effects of Apartheid, but it is far from being a Zimbabwe, or a Nigeria where authoritarianism is far more common. Ireland needs to look after it's own people first, THEN be in a position to help look after others. Obviously, when in a crisis, like what happened in Syria, is happening in Gaza OR Lebanon, or Sudan, there aught to be no objection by the people of Ireland to help and host some refugees, but on the CLEAR UNDERSTANDING that when things improve, they return (if they can) to their country of origin.

My wife's family are from a small town (Clonmel) in Tipperary, it's typical of many other towns and villages and doesn't have the necessary housing, businesses or infrastructure to support a larger community. The Irish are some of the most welcoming people you could meet, but if the Country can't support a large influx of people then it's understandable that they have genuine concerns.

Folks, the main issue causing the anger here, is the fact our own can not afford mortgages or rent, due to the ridiculous inflation our government has allowed to get out of control. And the same people, working people, paying taxes, that are looking for help, are the same people that are not being looked at first. Do I have sympathy for asylum seekers? I absolutely do. But do I think seeing the people from my home should be overlooked? That’s not even something I will debate. Our government granted a certain number of migrants and we accepted. This however has maybe quadrupled at this stage, and they are being given a royal treatment. This is not a racism thing. It’s a venting of frustration that we see migrants getting housing instead of our locals. My sympathies for those being abused and attacked, as it should never happen. However, our own have been let down and overlooked, and they have been let down by our so called leaders

As the world has more problems of aging population, immigrants can be a source of unskilled labour where most of the locals aren‘t willing to take up those jobs.
