This is the ultimate drag race video for the new Ford Lightning. I never get tired of seeing the wolf in action. I’d like to see it go up against a twin turbo 5.0 F150. They are out there, just need to locate one to see if he’s down for the challenge. I had one for about 7 weeks. It was a blast but for unseeable reasons I had to let it go. It made 674hp at the wheels.
i drove the lightning couple weeks ago at the millington tn ford dealer, very fast, 0-60 about 4.5 seconds, battery drained kinda quick, not ready for electric truck, but i did like it

I think that Midnight truck has the fastest 1/4 in the world. It is gutted and has a built motor. Would love to line them up.

I had a Lightning on order. I couldn’t get around how it would tow. TFL clearly showed those compromises. I cancelled mine and went with a SC Shelby Super Snake Sport F150. Until there are E service stations with convenience store, bathrooms, eats etc, and covered recharge “pumps” that can handle a rig with a trailer, it’s an around town prospect at this time. Whipple 5.0 FTW!

Because of laws the size and weight of the Lightning I don’t think ford will ever let it go past it’s limiter. You will have to probably wait for some 3rd party in the furniture to come up with a way to unlock it but then you loose all warranty. Other than some crazy supercharged tuned vehicles you will probably out race 90% of the vehicles on the road. That’s fast enough for me 👍
It’s easy to forget the Lightning is a 8,500 lb gvwr truck with a 7k lb curb weight. It’s not something you want a big top end on, and it really should be wearing at least load range c tires, which will all be limited to 112 mpg at most. As it is Ford puts p metric tires on it which I get in the name of fuel economy, but it’s questionable to me.

Wait, the lightning is not in sport mode. It's clearly in normal drive mode. You can see on screen the top line is blue. not the second one, which is sport mode

That was fun. I drove a Lighting the other day, very impressive off the line acceleration with only 32% charge remaining. This was my first experience of driving a full size EV on the road and I can see the advantages for some applications. Towing and travelling not really part of those applications. I love ICE, especially V8s with nice exhaust and blower. Not a fan of the huge center screen with the single knob.
Paul Neal would be a good race for the wolf. Vmp on vmp, 4 door on 4 door.
I think Paul Neal will give The Wolf it’s first L. He is very good at the details that cut time. It would be very fitting to have a similar truck do the honors.

Both those supercharged trucks are awesome, but that Wolf, wow. I was at R-M a couple months ago having my GT tuned and saw it there. I wish I would have thought about doing that Whipple on a truck instead of my Mustang!

These are the results I thought I’d see. I knew the lightning was fast but didn’t think it could hang with the hammer 🔨 or the wolf 🐺. I’m thinking about getting a buzz cut like yours. I’d probably save money on combs & shampoo!

My 2012 ford edge has touch sensitive buttons that are incredibly obnoxious. Im all about a physical button you can click/press. My edge takes it a step further though and the climate control can be fully adjusted by the touchscreen. I just dont get the dual setup but its there. When you need to adjust which vents to use floor/face/defrost you have to use the touchscreen and im not a huge fan of that. I know dual climate control is a "premium option" but i dont care for it. This is why i deliberately bought my truck without it.

80k EV Lariat or 30k 4x4 5.0 plus 20k in mods.... im going with the 5.0. I figured the hammer for a 11sec truck. 12.1 will just have to do, lol
11's without going crazy will come this fall.....
@@BackroadDriver you mentioned the power falls off at the top even though it feels like the truck can do more. I'm guessing that's to protect the truck. The plaid is a special EV, that is made to take the abuse of actually using that power. They are throwing power at these electric vehicles just to try to make them more appealing. The average buyer will be like sweet 13 second truck stock. Because it seems nice next to a fully loaded F-150 to the hilt that is probably 75,000 and it won't do 13. But to the average person that would buy a 50 to $60,000 F-150 which is kind of ridiculous in itself that it cost so much ( I couldn't get an XLT below 54 and at the rate I was going I was better off with the 60 for Lariat, those starting prices don't mean Jack ), the lightning is just not affordable and ready to replace the ICE version. The lightning is not made to be a drag strip King. I'm pretty sure it's like the slowest electric pickup truck out there, thinking Humvee and rivian. It's kind of here so that they have a foot in the door. I'm not ready for an $80,000 truck that loses half its charge while Towing and with any significant amount doing any real work. I don't think tuning will be a big hit with these electric vehicles because everything is made to take a certain amount of abuse. However I'm sure that they will start over engineering them on purpose so that they leave another 100 horsepower in the bag. ICE is a complete package for me I'm a total Gearhead and I love to modify. Will be a sad day when I won't be able to afford to put gas in my car and enjoy it. I could car less about a 80k truck, thats got a huge screen, and is quiet and rides nice. My 05 150HD rides just fine.
Arent stock motor eco boost with bigger turbos in the mid 12s with 600ish hp? I thought they, and thats why i thought u were 11.8s. Wait a sec, did u race the c8 with tge hammer and win? Isnt the c8 like 11.8? I dont know i might just be wrong on all this stuff... not the EV part. I ment that, lol
I totally agree with you on the EV stuff. The battery technology is just not there yet. It takes too long to charge and it drains way too fast when actually putting in work.
As far as the quarter mile times go I should be able to get into the 11s pretty easy this fall. It's hard for my truck with 33s and a level to get there when it's 95° out. When it's cool and dry this fall and I drop a pulley or two I should easily get into the 11's.
I did race the C8 with my truck but it beat me in the quarter. That thing launched from a dig like crazy. It just didn't have enough power to keep going on the top end. I beat it roll racing.
on track tfl got a super consistent 12.8. Smokes trx at altitude. Now would like to see trx vs lightning. ALSO another youtuber left his 21 whipple f150 for a trx. He has had 5 f150s before. But his whipple f150 got beat by a trx. how is this possible. ik 2021 f150s dont have tuning and like i tell ppl to go pre 2020 f150 if you want to.go fast

Yes, limited and can only be changed with a tune.

Well, Kinda what I thought would happen. The EV Stuff is LIMITED! That's It, cut and dried. Be interesting to see some Other EV Units go up against the HAMMER and the WOLFE to see if ICE Tuned Engines are "STILL" the KING KONG of FAST". (there's gotta be a Spot) where that is Overtaken. OK im late to the race party...how do you launch the 4w drive F150. I have a whipple charged 2021 Roush. I ran it at the track last night ( my first time on a 1/4 track )..Some of the F150 guys said to put it in 4h and turn the traction control off, not sure why but this made me nervous that something would break. How do you guys launch? I ran it in performance mode with traction control on and it was not that great lol. An explanation would be awesome for this noobie.

I don't know if it makes a difference, because I haven't played with the mapping, but you didn't have it in Sport mode for that first roll race. Or the second. I wish the Wolf was a single cab :(

What did the new tune change?
Just some transmission strategy and drivability changes. It didn't increase horsepower. I still run the same times as before. It's just better to drive and seems like I have better throttle response and transmission shifts.
This went as I expected with the exception of the race between the hammer and the lighting. Previously, on the smaller battery lightning that race looked close, so I thought the bigger battery would be even closer... but it got smashed. The only change on the hammer between the two races were the slightly taller and heavier tires ridge graplers vs nitto 420s right?
When you launch in The Hammer, start in Sport Mode 4H and then swap to 2H mid-pull, to get the jump off the line?
Yep, long hold TC to turn the advance track off as well.
I want to see you race a Lightning Pro because they have a faster 0-60 than a Lariat.
Hey man thanks for watching! That was a lightning pro. It was a lariat trim level but had the pro series battery and is as fast as they make them. The higher trim levels are actually slower possibly. They have more options and carry more weight.

Yes the 2 coyotes walk away but the lightning can do that 10000x ,the coyotes will not hold up to that abuse forever,and require premium fuel at the minimum… that last race omg that coyote is an animal! Sounds amazing,it seems like it’s ready to take on a Tesla Plaid…

Y'all lightning is just a bit slower though. So far multiple lariat and platinum have posted 12.7s-106mph.
Best 0-60mph 3.9 in a pro and 4.0 without rollout on a platinum.
The rivian will take hammer easy but lose to wolf. Except for possibly on a roll. Best 0-60mph for the r1t I've seen was a 3.0 no rollout.
11.4 in the 1/4mile slammed against that limiter. 🤔
Also fyi ev tuning does exist. Mountain pass performance can do tesla tuning. Ingenext a another Canadian firm has tuned model 3/y s and x for years now. They just recently unlocked the first ever plaid and did 217mph with it.
Also aem through Holley high voltage has an ev tuning division and has a tesla swapped 05 mustang gt running high 11s they built.
They did the work on the low 8s cobra jet e 1400 electric drag mustang, Vaughn gitten mach e 1400 drag&drift stang plus the only 6s 200+mph ev rail out there. 👍🏻😎

What tires are on the hammer?
In this race it had Nitto nt420v's on the back and Toyo Proxes STII on the front both sized 305/50/20. I have my Nitto ridge grapplers in 305/55/20 back on the truck already. I had cut a tire on a trail while back and it took a minute to get a replacement. There's not a ton of weight savings between the two but I'm sure the street tires are a tiny bit faster.

I wonder how well the Hammer performs with about 1500 lbs of payload to equal the curb weight of the Lightning. Just for shits and giggles lol. The Lightning is a porker at 6800 lbs, that’s heavier than the gasoline powered Superduties!

coming from a very novice car guy non opinionated standpoint, everyone’s glazing over the wolf and hammer over the lightning but if i had spent as much as y’all did on those coyotes i would rly hope they beat a stock ass electric truck. i’m not taking nothing from what y’all done from y’all trucks but i’m just saying the fact the factory ev truck even remotely keeps up from a strategically modified ice truck is kinda impressive.
