Caught my hand with a Beauty today with a 9mm steel ball it left quite a gash😂great video will be trying again tomorrow now that Iv seen this. Thanks. 👌🏴
All great information. I'm fighting dropping my hand lately. It's crazy how we will develop bad habits, we are never to far along to practice the fundamentals.
So true, its funny sometimes I just start shooting bad and can't figure it out. I always go back to my shot sequence. Walk through my steps and work through my steps and BAM everything comes together. I tend to pull my shots sometimes and I think it is my release but it is always my follow through.
I have made my own slingshot...just now waiting for UPS to bring my bands and ammo. Haven't fired a shot yet but I'm learning all kinds of good stuff from you! Thanks for the info.
I have to thank you for your great advice and tips... I've started ro take on slingshot shooting seriously since 30 June 2023. Although I've been following Chris from "Catapult Carnage" from day 1,which was a huge help. I've only started watching your channel for 3 days (literally!), your tips have made me get my general groupings within 25cm from shooting all over! So a tip of the gat to you sir. Thank you.
I have had four (4) REALLY BAD hand strikes ! Blood flow was serious, shooting 3/8" steelies. Watching your video hopefully will cure this problem !!!! I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. those strikes hurt a LOT !!!!
Thanks for braving the weather to make this video. My fork hand is a freaking mess from doing everything wrong. You addressed my issues, and now I consistently make accurate shots.
I would like to personally thank you for all the work you put into these videos, you gave me the fundamentals that help me understand where things go wrong. I'm now hit the hell out of my targets like a Champ, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! MY HERO!!
Man thanks so much for this comment. It means alot and is really appreciated. Getting this kind of feedback really drives me to keep the videos coming.
Dude, you're a beautiful person! I've been killing the right side of my frame. I'm still pretty much a newbie to this sport and was starting to get discouraged with my progress. Blessings and take care, my friend!
This was really good to hear. You have pretty well explained all the stuff I learned and am still learning over the last eight years. The combination of pouch grip and release and frame hold I believe is the essence of accuracy. Repeated muscle memory. Well done buddy, please give us more!
Thanks for the information and tutorial video, i purchased a cheap but good quality slingshot according to all the reviews on UA-cam. Received the slingshot today, now my here goes my training day 🤣👍. thanks
great tips, my friend. I didn't think about opening up the non-gripping fingers on my right hand to make room for the release. Makes perfect sense. This probably explains why I tend to fork hit on the upper fork. When I release, it is my thumb that moves while my index finger is pretty much static. Take good care!
ALL my problems come from releasing the pouch. I keep, jerking/ snatching. I know i'm doing it but find it hard to stop doing the bad releases. Must keep practising.
Great vid man, I've only been shooting for a 3 months and love it, I haven't had a frame hit yet shooting both OTT and TTF with a cheek anchor, but I have started shooting full butterfly OTT and have had a few frame hits
Ya I am not a clay fan at all. I usually just give them an old frame to shoot. I have never bought any good quality clays with consistant size or shape. It actually caused me to pick up some bad habits.
Interesting to lern iv only experienced it once when I first started but it was the way too many hours and too heavy a band lucky the frame was made from hdpe. Great video good to know information
Everytime I have had a frame hit it was from a slip or doing something dumb except once when I shot for many hours and my hand started to get tired and I started to cheat and speed bumped my pouch.......lesson learned
@@ATOMark very true all it takes is that lapse of concentration and it's got you, I remind myself just don't shoot yourself in the hand and there is a long wait at accident and emergency 👍
Another thing I learned is that if the hold or anchor point doesn't feel quite right don't shoot, let down and start over, yes ammo is cheap no big deal. It's just practice and we get lazy and shoot the shot anyway. Muscle memory is real, and bad habits will develop quickly. Treat every shot like it is the most important one today. I heard of an Archer whose coach only gave him one arrow to shoot at 50 yards, then he had to retrieve it to shoot again. He quickly learned to make every shot count. And got really good.
Ya I have been aborting shots more and more. If something doesn't feel right I re-start the shot sequence. This helps muscle memory and will eliminate inconsistent anchor points. I like to add a little accountability when practicing. When I miss the last shot it earns me 10 more. Lol
Thanks buddy. I appreciate that. I am always nervous shooting these videos. I know what I want to explain but I'm never sure it is coming across properly on camera.
Thanks for the video bro!👍 I've just recently got a new slingshot that has a very small fork width(3cm) and it's very difficult to shoot without getting fork hits,I haven't been shooting long,so it's the smallest I've shot, but I like the slingshot,it's a great size for my pocket.
No way I just went to shot the way u said in ur 💯,% right I can't believe how much better at shooting I am just doing it how u said really makes a difference having someone who knows what there talking about in I can see the band's I've made is to long so I will have to go make shorter bands or try order real bands thanks very much another good video
shooting over the top- - - I discovered my bands are in the "A' mode, instead of the "V" mode from what I see on some web sites. I will try changing to the "V" and see what transpires. Thank you for your reply. Healing took a good bit of time. I often attend the 'school of hard knocks' ! 😂
One more question my friend I'm shooting 5/16 steel ball ammo what thickness bands are best for that and do you think I would be better shooting smaller or larger ammo then 5/16 for target shooting on spinners with my Simplshot shooting box. Thank you very much for your knowledge and expertise .
I found a trick that helped me. Holding a pencil at one end and then holding up to my anchor point. In order to get the pencil straight towards target....your hand has to be in the exact hold to make pencil straight. Try it. That's how I knew my pouch hold was funky.
@@ATOMark Simple. Hold eraser and in your shooting hand. No frame needed. Just the left arm out and right hand holding eraser in your aiming stance with pencil aiming straight towards hold hand. It showed me how low my elbow was and how to keep my grip open with no speed bump.
Using frames with fork gap at least 50 to 70mm and twisting my pouch 90 degrees solved my frame hit issues. Twisting gives me better and more stable anchor point and if I accidentally tweak my pouch the ball won't hit the frame. Speed bump sends it away from my hand and the frame. If I shoot frames equipped with shooting gap less than 50mm I found out that the pouch won't always open cleanly. My sweet spot is 60mm. There are really good looking frames everywhere, but 90% of them has too narrow gap for my shooting style.
I've had to great a thumb guard I've had so many knuckle busting shots. I'll do fine for like 20 shots, then wham- thumb knuckle gets smashed. So etimes I'll have a couple of fork hits in a row. Then everything is fine again. I can't seem to figure out what is causing it. Frame is straight, same anchor point each time, same hold, easy release. .last s ash was yesterday znd it was super painful- hit a nerve or something as it felt like a shock all the way to elbow. Making a dang thumb guard out of old pill bottle until I can figure out why I am getting the thumb smashers.
Nice. I have never hit my hand but I have had a few fork hits. The ones on the evo came from trying to things in the air and shoot things. Just stupid. The other frame I hit was shooting a cold weather band test in -18c for an hour and a half. I couldn't feel my fingers any more and whammo . Besides that I have been pretty lucky too.
It would seem that if your forks aren’t stacked on top of each other, then you’re actually stretching one of the bands further than the other one which results in a similar situation to what you described in the first problem. Wouldn’t that be correct except in addition to a tendency for the bands to send the ball off-line you’ve now decreased the opening of the forks.
When I was a kid in the 70s...I made sling shots from wire coat hangers..regular rubber bands..one day I had a marble, and when I let fly, the marble hit dead on my thumb nail...I thought I was dieing 😂😂 I'm 61 now?and still love sling shots...
Ya man. It does trap the ammo. The one on top I bought from snipersling. But they are available at Omega Slings too. The one below I made myself out of an old water barrel. You can save lots of money making these. I have 3 videos of these builds.
Hi mate how are you? I hope you are doing great i have a problem i use ott slingshot and .65 with 8 mm steel ball Why do I get deep scratches on my rubber band? After firing about 10 to 15 shots I feel like my band is getting hit by a fork. If it does, how do I avoid it?
Great video! Thanks for sharing! I am new to this sport. I always shoot high, the narrower the frame width the higher I shoot, I don't want to change my anchor point which is my cheek bone. How do I fix this? Try wider frames? Like 95mm or even 100mm wide frames? Thank you. Also, how to aim when shooting downwards? for example, when you shoot something on the ground, do you bend your waist? Thank you very much.
Yup wider frames will solve this. This is why I always shoot 90mm frames. But you can always just aim low. They call it gap shooting. You know where your ball is going so you aim accordingly
@@alchemistlee5882 yes it is best to draw then bend at the waist. If you raise your arm or lower your arm you change the angle and draw length of your bands. Becomes very inconsistent also you may cause a frame hit because your bands aren't stretching equally. Bending at the waist is best.
@@ATOMark I'll second that; I have a friend who is a cop and he took me on their outdoor range on Sunday for 9mm pistol target practice, along with his buddy who is their chief firearms instructor. With a low target he made me emphasise the waist bend so that the target alignment is correct. Thanks ATO; I had a nasty hand strike with an 8mm BB the other day and couldn't figure it out, blood everywhere! For some reason I'd allowed my pouch thumb to bend about 20 degrees at the joint, to make my anchor more comfortable. As soon as I got my thumb and finger in line again I was back in business.

I don’t think any of these are solving my problem, if I shoot at something lower than me(can on ground) I hit forks. How can I change the angle without changing my anchor point? I’ve no problems with standard targets.
When you shoot down or up you need to keep your form. For example when I draw at something high I draw like I am shooting straight ahead and tilt at the waste to meet my target. If you raise or lower your arm you will create more tension in 1 band than the other and frame hit. So your frame arm and tldraw arm should make a T with your torso and while holding that T and bending at the waste will solve that issue.
I am not here because of fork hits. Man your front hand get freeze during shoot 😲👍 i use fork supporting grip and my band sometimes slaps my index finger or thumb. My band match the ammo. Any ideas why? I try hold still my front hand and still this hapend. If i use pinch grip I dont have this problems.
@@ATOMark I know. But my band really match the ammo. I checked it. As I sad I get this slap only when I hold slingshot with fork supporting grip. If I change it problem solved. Strange.
Just paused video, have to say knuckle hits suck more lol, I have a low profile slingshot and the grip is right behind the forks and bands, nothing says remember not to be lazy like having the knuckle smacked with that projectile lol.
Usually if you are getting hand slap it's from overpowered bands.
@@ATOMark I know. But my band really match the ammo. I checked it. As I sad I get this slap only when I hold slingshot with fork supporting grip. If I change it problem solved. Strange.
@@uniquedrone that is strange. I have no idea.
@@ATOMark OK thx anyway.
@@ATOMark Width of the band is little bit wider that clip. Do you think this could cause this problem?
here's the other video I was talking about
ua-cam.com/video/rVws8TI0WvU/v-deo.html
Just paused video, have to say knuckle hits suck more lol, I have a low profile slingshot and the grip is right behind the forks and bands, nothing says remember not to be lazy like having the knuckle smacked with that projectile lol. Now back to the video, I better pay attention so I won't smack my knuckle again lol
I put some damage in the webbing of my hand shooting the hammer pro. I am so glad I didn't hit my knuckle. That would have been a nightmare.
@@ATOMark webbing of the hand wouldn't of felt good either lol, steel on bone I didn't like but my son thought it was funny seeing dad hold back some words while walking it off lol.
@@ATOMark great video btw, will be watching my form a lot more
Lol I bet.
Can I get a heart ❤️ please
Sure no problem!I'll trade ❤ for comments any day. Lol🤣
Will you review the new wasp “OUTLAW” frame please ato just to find out what you think of it because that’s my next frame purches but I need to convince the wife first 😂
Lol I'll see what I can do. I have 6 frames in front of it though.
@@ATOMark I will be watching watching and watching some more. Thanks for excellent informative videos mark 👍🏻👍🏻
