Does Tiger Drop ACTUALLY Negate All Damage?

- Well, in a majority of the games, no. But does it negate all damage in some of them? Well, I wanted to check the different versions of Tiger Drop across the series and discovered that there are 3 ways the games handle counter attacks in all of the games. How these 3 ways work, is something you'll have to figure out from watching the video :)
Also, I'm anticipating people getting angry that I didn't test it in the PS2 games, but you'll notice when you watch the video that I actually could have just tested it in three specific games and gotten results for everything else. So unless the PS2 versions negate zero damage (in which case the Kratos argument would blow up harder than Nishiki), they would fall into one of the three categories, so it really does not matter.

The only thing left is Kiryu Kazuma, tiger dropping the last black hole raging at the center of the dead universe, unable to consume his matter because tiger drop negates all damage. The craziest thing I found accidentally about Tiger Drop is that you can parry Mine's healing pelvis thrust in Yakuza 3. I was so dumbfounded when I did it that I forgot to record it, but may God strike me down if I'm lying.

Kiryu just didn't try Tiger-Dropping the cancer cells in his body. Maybe he should've asked Komaki about such technique.
Technically, since the Tiger Drop works when receiving damage, and cancer is constant damage, Kiryu gets to Tiger Drop whenever he wants.

Yakuza 5 wasn't the first game to have I-frames on Tigerdrop, Yakuza 1/2 was. I believe the Kenzan counter also gave I-frames. Honestly, I think in Yakuza 3/4 they maybe wanted to nerf it a bit? Or maybe they just forgot about it having I-frames entirely.

in yakuza 3, they tried to nerf Kiryu combat and buff enemy combat and you know how that turned out, yakuza 4 was completely based on yakuza 3 it's just they removed the enemy block bs, other than those games all yakuza games kiryu in, his tiger drop negates all damage as intended

Yeah in Yakuza 1 and 2 you have alot of i-frames, and no attack can ever hit you when you tiger drop

The Tiger Drop does exist in the first 2 games and works like how it does in 5, 0, and Kiwami.

I had the same exact Kratos argument last night. I said that these kinds of arguments are stupid if you just talk about how OP a character's counter attack is. If all of them rely on counter attack, why would any of them even attack first? Why would they even fight?

I think the reason Kratos v Kiryu sticks around so much is because they're perfect opposites in ludonarrative dissonance. Kratos is exceptionally hyped up and borderline unstoppable in lore, but can feel like a normal person in non scripted gameplay, especially in the modern games that have him constrained by the terrain very often. Kiryu is just a guy, and mostly acts like one in cutscenes, but is very powerful in gameplay, and that power has steadily bled into his narrative treatment and overall reputation. _(my favourite example of this is the Yakuza stageplay, which has Kiryu pause the performance to heal in the middle of a fight)_
A god with the reputation of a man, and a man with the reputation of a god. Kratos sadly doesn't stand a chance against Judgement Kazzy, but it is fun to pretend that the matchup could be fair

I can confirm that Tiger Drop can still whiff completely in Dragon Engine-games. Specifically, Kaito's Drop Kick flies right over it and even punishes it. Good on you, Kaito, for mastering the Tiger Drop Dropping Drop Kick.

In all fairness, getting I-frames on a counter attack is mad crazy, and in 3 and 4 it's actually been documented as the no invincibility on TD is a glitch. Since they did have I-frames on it in 1 and 2.

You are wrong the earliest game that had tiger drop was Yakuza 2 ps2, thry never mentioned how to unlock it and I used cheatcode at the end of the game to unlock it. (I think there was some sort of magazine that you gotta find and read or maybe there is that sega mini game that was first person call y06 or smthing (I'm not sure about 1 but I'm sure 2 had it)

isn’t the whole point of of tiger drop that you dodge someone’s attack then quickly counter it? so if kiryu’s timing is right he’d just bob and weave through every one of kratos’s attacks while also hitting him at the same time, now the question is would he do any damage? The way it works is that you use it when Kiryu's hitbox is hit by an attack, and when it's used, the attack's damage is set to zero while you immediately counter.
It's not super armor, it's not removing Kiryu's hitbox, it's legit just straight up setting damage to 0. Any hit visual effects go through but the attack does not do anything.
So, yes, it DOES negate any damage that Kiryu would take from the attack that triggers Tiger Drop. Meanwhile you argue that Tiger Drop's *recovery animation* does not nullify damage, which makes sense, but that's- not the point of the meme-
Yakuza Kiwami's counter hook for the brawler doesn't have the invincible effect like in Y0 but given to the Tiger Drop instead so, you take damage whatever they hit you just to stun your opponent.

If tiger drop does not negate all damage (it clearly does), then there's always the komaki parry. Ggez.
The flashbangs aren't allowed to interact with you again until the cooldown on the blind debuff comes back. You know how you can only stun enemies sometimes in YK2? There's a cooldown until you can stun them again. This applies to all kinds of statuses actually, and also to Kiryu.
You're definitely onto something with how tiger drop works in dragon engine. I've had a lot of times where I landed tiger drop and got hit during recovery. Learned the hard way that tiger drop doesn't negate all damage when the mole's wall jump attack smacked yagami in the head

“Yagami would beat kiryu” Eh debatable. If we are talking about kiryu at his peak (2-5) no way, he would destroy yagami for sure, but yagami would be a very difficult opponent for kiryu, so he would beat yagami but not very fast. If we are talking about kiryu past his peak (6-Giadon) I think yagami VS kiryu would end a draw since kiryu is still strong as fuck but yagami being younger will be able to match him in power, but not enough for either to win, they’d just tire eachother out. If we are talking about kiryu from infinite wealth then yes, yagami would definitely defeat kiryu, if they are fighting 1v1. Since kiryu is suffering from cancer with only 6 months left to live, while he’s still strong, he’s not as strong anymore and yagami being in peak condition would have the advantage and win, but it would be a very difficult victory. If kiryu has a party then yagami would lose to the combined power of the party if he’s alone, if he has kiato, sugiura (sorry), and Higashi, then I think he could win. But kiryu could also win, it could go either way.
Really depends on when the fight occurs.

1:27 It's called "Komaki School Counter" in the ps2 games btw. It's unlocked the same way in 1 as Kiwami(komaki ofc) and I think for 2 it's the acupuncture clinic in Shinseicho.

The tiger drop (at least in kiwami 2 I never tried in yakuza 6) does not have I frames throughout ALL the animation seeing as how tiger dropping a rocket launcher will still hurt you no matter how you time it oh and in gaiden tiger dropping a shotgun also doesn’t get negated and in fact beats tiger drop
