Great video!!! It is so refreshing to see a normal guy out there. I will watch every video,,,I am a cold weather outdoors person. I can't do alot of physical stuff but I can do day trips..thanks again for sharing!!!!
Feed a cold starve a fever. As always thanks for all the videos Kenny. I like relaxing on Saturday afternoons watching your older uploads 👍 Best wishes for 2024 from one of your subscribers in south central British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦
That camper really is the ticket to getting you out more. If you have a nice place to sleep you're more likely to want to explore in the cold! Love the snow ❄️❄️❄️❄️ Thanks for taking us on the trip 😁
Great stuff again, Kenny. My dad used to say, just power through those colds and flu. Never knew him to be sick a day in his life. Tough old marine. It’s great when you say “ and there’s no one else out here on a day when it’s 20 below” but you have thousands of people with you on your hike and we’re all grateful for you doing this! Thanks again!
Very nice of you to say! And you are right Bary, I have a lot of people riding shotgun, and going on hikes every weekend! I appreciate you coming along.
Next time you get to Crow Wing State park check out the headstones in the Morrison cemetery. Some of the oldest in the county. Enjoy your videos. My 96 year old father loves watching them as well. He is an old RV person and always dreamed of a pickup camper and a boat. He had multiple Holiday Rambler travel trailers when I was a much younger and eventually spent winters in Arizona.
I'll have to get a better look in the cemetery one day. I love to hear that you and your dad enjoy the channel. I'll have to get a boat hooked up to the truck this summer for you dad. Make a good ol' Catch and Cook Truck Camper video!
plz take care of yourself. don’t take good health for granted. ice storm has shut schools etc down here. i’m in my recliner wrapped up in my electric blanket, etc. i was born in clearwater, florida. i wasn’t made for cold. lolol. love your vids! God bless you, keep you safe, and heal you.
Hope you are feeling better and the soup was enjoyed. You are a trouper for getting out there in the sub zero temps when you were not feeling that well.
I'm still watching man. Keep your videos coming and I hope you feel better. Too bad about the sun rise video. That would have been nice. You got me thinking.....
Really enjoyed the vid. I always enjoy the little tidbits you give out like thermostat, keeping heat in the camper on making it fun to learn little truck camper tricks gotta say two things Cold weather is sinuses best friend. Second May Peace Health and Happiness follow you and yours
Hey Kenny, thanks a lot on the tip about the thermostat. It does make sense that some electronics struggle in cold temps. Thanks again, and as always, love your videos.
So tired of this cold!! Can't wait to hit the road and leave it behind! Should take care of yourself if you are sick... Make sure you do that!!!! 💙Terry and Terri
Hope you get better can't believe you went being sick good video well leaving out on the 3rd of February to truck camper rally in Quartzsite AZ so get better say a prayer for you
Thanks I'm feeling better today. Be safe on your travels and have fun. I've seen a few truck camper rallies on UA-cam. The full-time content creators have show them in a really good light. I may have to check it out someday myself. If you see anything really cool you will have to let me know!
Kenny you are made of tough stuff! My truck camper is in indoor storage until the melt. In the meantime, I get my camping fix through your videos. Great stuff!
Props for still filming a video even though you were sick! Sweet walk to the church and glad it helped you feel better. I like your thumbnail by the way

another great video! I just love your winter videos. My great-grandfather came to Minnesota from Sweden in 1880, and I often wonder if he found Minnesota as beautiful as you show us. I hope you are well now.
I would have love to seen Minnesota back then. I can't imagine how endless the forests, rivers and lakes would have felt to someone in a covered wagon. I'm glad to hear you enjoy the scenery I'm able to capture.
Great content, really enjoyed the Church history, cool stuff. Chicken noodle soup is the best food when having a cold or flu, I don't know why but it always works for me. Hope you're feeling better soon. That Rest area was cool looking too. Stay safe and thank you for sharing 👍
We remember that hike from last year. The Wild Rice soup looked very yummy. Hope by the time this video is published that you are feeling better. You are definitely built for the cold North weather. Enjoyed the hike. Have a great week. Mary 💕 Fred
Thanks guys! I'm feeling better this morning. The crud has moved out of my face and into my chest. But at least it's moving. It seriously felt like my head was gonna explode on camera. My ears, teeth, eyes, hair all hurt for days. It was a nasty sinus infection. Buts I'm definitely getting better.
The Anderson levelers are great. You can use two side by side to support the width of a truck tire. They also have a small wedge that fits under the big wedge to hold it in place and reduce rocking. It ends up cradling the tire. My camper is in storage so I can measure the curve of it compared to the tires on my 2500
Another good video Kenny! Glad you started to feel better. Amazing how being out in the cold will actually help. My wife always feeds me zinc tablets when I start in with something like a cold. The soup looked really good. Love chicken wild rice soup. When in a hurry I really like the Progressor brand chicken wild/white rice soup.....for a canned soup it's really pretty good. I always add 1/2 cup of frozen corn in it......pretty darn good! Your truck was awesome in that kind of temps. Thanks again for bringing us along Kenny....take care!
Thanks for powering through & making a new video for us to watch, mom knows best, lol. The soup looked really good, just missing mushrooms! 🍄 Hope you are feeling better!
Hi Kenny! Thanks for adding the recipe info on your video. I look forward to trying this one out. Wow it's cold there, we are currently living in Germany and I miss cold snowy days. Keep up the good work.
Excellent video as usual. I was blown away by the fact that you still went out there to shoot a video for us despite you having the flu and how cold it was. Thank you for taking us along sir !!!
Glad your trip helped you feel better! I run 12.5 tires and and would need two rollup ramps per tire to prevent damage to the tire. Great recipe! and info on thermostat! Glad it don't get that cold down here in N Ga!
Good evening Kenny, enjoyed the video. Sorry you're not feeling well but I'm glad by the end of the video you were feeling better. Keep up the great content. Have a good evening.
I just love hearing the crunching of the snow under your feet and your very mellow personality as well. Truly feel like we're right there with you. How was the chicken wild rice soup? I'm from Bloomington, MN and it's a cold one tonight but I love all weather even the storms. Have a beautiful week and see you down the trail. God Bless you!
Very cool message! The soup was great. I finally had a bowl yesterday. The weather looks like a big warm up is coming. I'm looking forward to the weekend already!
Would have been a beautiful cross country ski trail! Hope you feel better! Only complaint I have about MN is the TC’s politics! Hang in there, keep ‘em coming!
Hi Kenny, I just discovered your amazing videos. I am going through a difficult time in my life (apologies for complaining about that.) Yet, I just want you to know how much your videos give me hope.
Kenny, my brother...I dont know if I should put you up for Sainthood...or call you a doctor! You have my respect big time..I would be a frozen mackerel bear dinner by now!
Cool video. I love that truck camper. I'd like to have one someday. I'd only suggest a facemask next time to protect your skin from frostbite. Curious what you'd change about the soup?
Man Kenny, you came through again for us with another beautiful location; even though you were under the weather! Bummer you were under the weather again, twice this winter eh? Always listen to mom’s words of wisdom! Question of the day…did you remember to pick up your leveler? 🤔 😂
Great video Kenny, I'm in the market for a 850 lance camper to do more adventures then my 5th wheel. Hope you feel better soon. Keep living the dream 👍
When you are sick like that . During the day try to have some chicken broth as much as you can! Its the fat from the chicken that will help coat your throat so it does not hurt as much.
Hello Kenny my friend 🖑! You are looking nice and fit! I'm so glad that you take care of yourself, but, I still worry about you! 😊🤔 You really must be a GREAT driver in the snow, I am so proud of you driving in the ice and snow, I couldn't do that!! 😣 You are a GREAT guy my friend!!! Take care!, Stay warm! ❤ your friend, Didi 🖑 🤗🤗🤗🤗 ❤ your video, it's Great!
That’s a pretty fancy rest area. The ones in WA state are ancient. They’ve been around since I first remember doing road trips with my parents in the 70s. They need to be bulldozed and replaced.
Thanks for doing this! I had to keep pausing and jumping to my temp. convert app and -28C is freggin cold and now i know it’s doable-as long as the propane doesn’t freeze lol. And knowing you can make it cozy warm inside too! 👍🏻Don’t catch a chill when your feeling ‘ugh’ as remember it comes back with a vengeance then. 🍻
I got into a bind with my propane tanks not producing vapor in cold weather... learned that full tanks aren't as likely to do that as mostly empty tanks. I was up at altitude near Raton once, and had to toss a little electric throw blanket over my tank to keep it producing vapor to run the furnace. A big garbage bag served to keep the blanket dry. Had an iceberg on my trailer the next morning... had to wait for sunshine up in the day to get it cleared off before leaving. Wasn't expecting that, no sir!
"i was built for the north", I can so relate. I love snow shoeing, x-country skiing, and hiking in the winter with my dog! I've yet to winter camp, but your videos have me pumped to try it. Maybe next season, spring has really sprung here in southern Ontario Canada. I'm roughly 100 miles due west from Toronto. I noticed you have a couple boefang radios. Are you a ham radio operator? Thanks for doing these videos, I'm really enjoying them!
Thanks! I would love to find a few winter activities as well. I was surprised at how expensive snow shoes and cross-country skies are. I'm not a Ham operator. I had a nice set of GRMS radios and borrowed them out. They never got returned, so now I use the cheap Boafeng radios on the GMRS frequencies. I also like how I can listen to other frequencies, including FM and NOAA. I like the dry humor of the channel "Not a Rubicon." I was made aware of the radios through him.
Wow, my hat's off to you for camping in that frigid weather! I don't think I could do that kind of cold, but if it made you feel better, then it was certainly worth it! On a cold morning, nothing beats freshly brewed coffee, and the soup looked delicious, hope you eventually got a bowl. You looked really tired, could tell you weren't feeling well, but you looked better after the hike. Hope you continue to recover and have a great week!
Have you thought about putting an emergency or secondary heating system? I am installing a webasto gasoline heater on the side of my Scout camper as a secondary heat option just in case. Also, do you have a lithium battery in your truck camper?
I have gell batteries. I do carry a big buddy heater in the truck with my ice fishing gear. If I had an emergency, I would use it, but I'd rather not. I hate how much condensation the generate. I love to install a Webasto or equivalent in the camper. Maybe one day...
Stay well Kenny! There’s no reason to “play hurt” just for armchair followers like me. It seems it was a cure though, so I may stand corrected on that. The soup looked great! Thanks!
Great video as always, Kenny. I've been watching your vids from the beginning and look forward to them every week. I've made that soup before but omitted the cream and instead cut up beef ring sausage to saute with the veggies. It was amazing! I usually don't comment, but had a question about you staying in rest areas overnight. Many states allow that for up to 8 hours, but I had an incident last year in MN where a tow truck pulled up next to me and the driver got out and kept looking at his watch. I researched it online and saw that MN only allows 4 hours at a rest area unless you are a long distance trucker. This disappoints me, because many times traveling I've had to stay at rest areas overnight because I'm driving multiple states in my truck camper. Never had a problem before. So I guess I just wanted to get your take on this. Am I just unlucky in MN? (PS. I've had an unscrupulous tow company hook up my truck and camper in MN while I was still in the camper and railroad me into paying $75 just to unhook, so maybe I'm unlucky)
State statue 168B.04 has the rules regarding use non commercial motorists. And you are right the law states: 10hrs for Commercial drivers 4hrs for us peasants However wayside stops allow up to 6 hours. I have never had an issue with it. But I could see how a hungry tow company would sit on a rest stop fishing for cars. I had multiple Troopers drive by me all night. I was there well past 4 hours. I don't think they care. I think a Trooper would prefer a motorists be well rested before driving. Drowsy driving is estimated to be a factor in 20% of fatal crashes according to a AAA study. Maybe the reason no one said anything to me is because a lot of people carpool up here. It's common for people to use this rest stop as a meeting place. Cars are parked here all day while people are at work. I don't use a lot of Minnesota Rest Stops for overnight parking. But I've used a lot of other states. I'm surprised Minnesota only allows 4 hours.
Personally i really love to see how you are on the road and shopping. I'm New to your channel and startet with your newest Videos but please Show some footage from the preparing the trip
I really appreciate that! That's how I like to record the videos and would love to do more of that. I stopped because people were complaining, saying they only wanted to see camping. I'm getting to the point where I'm going back to recording the videos the way I want to. I'm glad to hear people want to see the preparation parts.
In cold weather, I will also drive with the furnace on. It’s no fun crawling into a frozen camper and an ice cold bed. Looks like you also have a manual switch to run the basement fan full time… is that what rocker switch on the t-stat does?
I imagine this has been asked before but was wondering what engine oil viscosity you use during the winter and if you change that out for the summer to a non synthetic 15W-40.
I run 5-40 in the winter and 15-40 in the summer. I was running Amsoil untill prices skyrocketed. I've been using Rotella T-6 for the last year and a half. The LML is known for developing a tick...its referred to as a "typewriter tic" some oil brands will cause the sound to come and go... I haven't heard it with the Amsoil or Rotella.
@@KennyOfAllTrades Good to hear, I suspected you probably were using a more winter type engine friendly oil as one way of putting it vs tempting fate with a conventional 15W-40 ( there are part synthetic versions that will flow a little better according to their specs ). Crazy how oil prices have shot up, well everything for that matter and as to Amsoil I have little experience with their oils but will say I don't like multi level marketing, too much like Amway. Years ago I got into using Mobil Delvac 1 0W-40 for equipment and highway tractors that I may use during the winter so that oil stays in them all year around. Otherwise I don't use it in equipment that never runs during the winter, instead the Mobil 1300 series 15W-40 to be more cost effective as more then enough gets spent on oil as it is on the farm.
Nice video. Where are you located that is that cold? I had my first winter camping but it was not cold at all here in the North East. Hoping to go out again to southern VT for some snowboarding and winter camping some 3 nights at least.
I'm up in North Central, Minnesota. We have had a really warm winter for the most part. Normally, we have a month long stretch of lows -30 to -40 bellow zero with highs of -15. This winter, we have been staying around 0, and it's been great for heating costs.
You are a trooper hiking in sub zero temps with a bad cold. Thanks for the video. How old is your furnace? With all the winter camping you do that diesel heater drawing fuel from your trucks tank might be a worth while investment.
Have you ever been harassed for staying overnight t a rest area?? The wife and I plan on traveling just like you in a few years. We are both so excited! Stay warm...rest up. I hope that you feel better in the morning!
Once at a rest stop a Truck Driver started taking pictures of my truck. He didn't notice I was sitting in the driver's seat. I rolled down my window and asked how he was doing. ( I thought he liked the Truck Camper) He was PISSED! He thought I was there to break into vehicles I think. He couldn't believe I was between travels and staying the night in my camper when it was -30 below zero. I told him to go ahead and take as many pictures as he wanted, and if was truly that concerned to call police. He walked away all huffy and I went into the camper. That was my only rest stop issue......well there once was a guy who was totally off his rocker having a drug induced psychotic episode, but I just that place. I've ran into more late night domestics, drug deals and racing cars while staying at Walmart.
I noticed that you said that it was 2 degrees at the fresh water tank, my question is do you ever boondock with water in your tanks. If so, at what temperature? I really enjoy your videos. I do a lot of extreme cold weather camping in my camper as well, thanks
Once The weather here in Minnesota hits below 0 I usually don't keep water in the tanks. We will go 4 months without seeing above freezing temperatures. It costs too much to keep the heat on in the camper while I'm at work all week. I had a video where I explained some of this stuff. It's an older video, but I'll give you the link. I show how I added an extra outlet to the holding tank area and run a small ceramic heater down there. Thanks for watching. ua-cam.com/video/35WJi_PAops/v-deo.html
New stuff is expensive! I work for the State.... I don't get paid much. The truck is a 2015. I picked it up in 2019 for 28k, that was when trucks were still affordable. The camper is 20 years old now. I paid 6 grand for it 6 years ago. I have owned many truck campers in the last 20 years. Prices have gotten completely out of hand.
Hardly anyone- male of female- would have gone camping in those cold temps when they are feeling that sick, so kudos to you! ✌🏼
Thank you for watching!
You had me with starting with a Ferris Bueller quote!!
I thought it was fitting. Lol. There were so many good movies back in the mid 80's and early 90's.

I really liked the drone footage of the rest stop area. I have a very busy February (work travels) and your videos help me press on! Thank you.
Thanks for watching, and I appreciate your comment. Hopefully life can slow down a little for you.
Love the video Kenny!! Not sure I would be able to camp in those temps especially if I was sick!!

Thanks! I had it today for the first time. It was awesome 👌. Butter, cream, wild rice...great!
@@KennyOfAllTrades ...Butter Cream Wild Rice Sounds Yummy !!!
Can't beat the pre-cooked chicken at the grocery store!!
Cub, Costco and Black Bear have awesome rotisserie chicken!
Would have been a beautiful cross country ski trail!
Hope you feel better!
Only complaint I have about MN is the TC’s politics!
Hang in there, keep ‘em coming!
Agreed!
Hi Kenny, I just discovered your amazing videos. I am going through a difficult time in my life (apologies for complaining about that.) Yet, I just want you to know how much your videos give me hope.
I'm sorry to hear about that. I hope the videos can provide a little escape. I appreciate you tuning in.
The soup was really good. I had it all week for left overs. I would say crumbled bacon would have put it over the top!
Ferris Buellers Day off that was one funny movie😅😅😅😊😊😊😊❤
I would definitely use a block heater in that weather.
Man Kenny, you came through again for us with another beautiful location; even though you were under the weather!
Bummer you were under the weather again, twice this winter eh?
Always listen to mom’s words of wisdom!
Question of the day…did you remember to pick up your leveler? 🤔 😂
Yep that was 30 bucks under that tire! It's going back to Walmart next time I'm in town.
@@KennyOfAllTrades oh good, happy ya remembered it. Glad we didn’t have to add one more thing to the lost list 😝 😂
Lol....that list is way to long already!
I've slept there many times in my big rig.. im still trying to catch up too all your current videos!.
Great video Kenny, I'm in the market for a 850 lance camper to do more adventures then my 5th wheel. Hope you feel better soon. Keep living the dream 👍
Thanks, you too!
When you are sick like that . During the day try to have some chicken broth as much as you can! Its the fat from the chicken that will help coat your throat so it does not hurt as much.
I'm gonna try that next time for sure! Thats a great tip.
I was thinking from the start of the video..."is he gonna remember gloves?" lol nice video.
Thanks!
I soon found out after moving from Scotland to Canada, in winter layering is definitely the way to go
Totally agree!
Hello Kenny my friend 🖑! You are looking nice and fit! I'm so glad that you take care of yourself, but, I still worry about you! 😊🤔
You really must be a GREAT driver in the snow, I am so proud of you driving in the ice and snow, I couldn't do that!! 😣
You are a GREAT guy my friend!!! Take care!, Stay warm!
❤ your friend,
Didi 🖑
🤗🤗🤗🤗
❤ your video, it's Great!
Kenny I highly recommend taking vitamin D3. I take it everyday and very rarely get sick.
I'll definitely give it a shot!
That’s a pretty fancy rest area. The ones in WA state are ancient. They’ve been around since I first remember doing road trips with my parents in the 70s. They need to be bulldozed and replaced.
This was a nice one and it was quiet. State Patrol squads are in and out all night so the riff raff don't hang around.
Thanks Spykers!
Thanks Doodles, I'm finally feeling better today. I had a bowl of soup for the first time today...it was awesome!
Thanks!
Thanks Bill, I had the soup for the first time today. It was great!
🥶👍✌️
Thanks Spud Man!
And you are right the law states:
10hrs for Commercial drivers
4hrs for us peasants
However wayside stops allow up to 6 hours.
Yes that's for the basement fan. I see you had a video on that. It's a useful switch when I get to use the little electric heater.
Minnesota here, no, we dont get used to it lol.....the cold.
You are a trooper hiking in sub zero temps with a bad cold. Thanks for the video.
How old is your furnace? With all the winter camping you do that diesel heater drawing fuel from your trucks tank might be a worth while investment.
It would probably be worth looking into. My furnace is original to the camper. Its 20 years old.

You must have a very good paying job that rig set up is I bet 150k or so
New stuff is expensive!
The garlic should kick that cold
Very good point. I never thought of that!
