  • With a limitless range of work with artists from Ozzy Osbourne to Miley Cyrus, Post Malone to Eddie Vedder, Dua Lipa to Elton John, Grammy-Award winning producer and guitarist Andrew Watt exemplifies the ability to stretch and evolve. He's known for instantly putting his collaborators at ease, imbuing his work with a sense of fun and for knowing exactly how best to make sure his counterparts shine. Andrew is a highly-skilled musician, who's songwriting is marked with some serious musicianship and a fervent curiosity and love for musical instruments. A studied steward of the craft, his studio is filled with an incredible array of gear for which we were lucky enough to hear the sounds and stories behind a small sampling of his most beloved guitar tones.
When you’re after a particular guitar tone, Andrew comes from the school of number one most important thing is the player. After that, it doesn't matter the price on the guitar, it could be great at any cost. What matters is how it feels in your hands, what it does and how it makes you sound. When you find the right one, it’ll make you write differently and might even inspire new songs.
In addition to highlighting some of his favorite guitar sounds from his deep collection of gear, including his 1961 Gibson SG, ‘46 Martin D-28, ‘58 Fender Strat, ‘67 Fender Tele, and a ‘64 Hofner bass, Andrew takes us through his pedalboard including his different fuzz, wah, delay, phaser, chorus and overdrive pedals. Finally, he offers up insights on how his guitar playing informs his producing, why he loves collaboration as a form of musical conversation and how everything he does is in service of the song.
After you watch the video, be sure to check our article for even further discussion with Andrew Watt on his latest productions and some recently acquired gear that’s provided some fresh inspiration to his guitar playing including a Maestro Phaser pedal, Arp 2600, and the Oberheim OB-X8: www.guitarcenter.com/riffs/in...

I'm here after listening to Pearl Jam's dark matter. It feels good to know this guy whom is only 2 years older than me and I strangely share a birthday with, loves Pearl Jam and literally brought life back into that band. He has helped them Revitalize themselves and in my book is now a genius

He pushed them to a new hidden level. Also kudos to Ed for talking the band into it and making that call.

I just heard this kid's name for the first time in a few years just right now. I had completely forgotten about him. but, a few years ago when I was a Hofner endorser, I got a call from the US rep for Hofner. they asked me if I can loan out one of my basses to a young session player. I ended up meeting with him within a day or so. but, I seem to recall him having a lot longer hair back then.
but, I didn't realize how young he is...he's almost young enough to be MY kid - and I'm not yet 50!

Watt is my favorite new guitarist! After hearing him on Ordinary Man I started looking him up. He totally got me into some new artists that he has produced. The new Ozzy album is amazing! I can't wait to see what he does next!

    Get ready people's.
The guitar/ music revolution is in the oven.
We're cooking up the greatest sounds since the 1960s 🎉😊.
A little secret about the fundamental of our electric guitar sound is the fender twin.

Really hope he tells Mike McCready that Jeff Beck story when recording the new Pearl Jam record. McCready’s one-take improv solos need serious reigning in.

Marshall based his amp off a Bassman not a Twin. But I bet Keith loved it. Although I wish you got him to use the Ampegs and Boogies again. His best sound by a million miles. C'mon Exile then Some Girls? Then the live combo of both?

The crazy thing about that Les Paul/SG he is talking about in the beginning is that he’s saying there are two of that kind, and I’m pretty sure Tom Bukovac has the other one 😮

Uh pardon me but, this gentleman appears to exude an extraordinary level of enthusiasm akin to that of a fervent admirer rather than a seasoned producer. Is his intention perhaps to lay to rest the very essence of rock 'n' roll once and for all?
