    Love the information that you included with your list. Knob Creek, OF 1910, and Wild Turkey 101 are some of my daily drinkers. Makers Mark also a great choice. Thanks for this and for the channel content you're putting out. Cheers!

    Appreciate the list, my friend. After hunting down hard to get Bourbons for my Son-in-Law, I started picking up a couple for myself. He can't get most of them in his market. I got hooked on the hunt and the taste. Always looking for a good value in my liquor that isn't super hard to find. I was more of a wine guy, but learned to appreciate the value-price ratio in Bourbon, too. Thank you for the list.

    I have only ever had one bourbon since I just turned 21 this summer. I got Wild Turkey 81 and have so far tried it neat, in a homemade old-fashioned, and as a whiskey sour. I really like the whiskey sour and am getting used to the taste. I normally am a amber ale or dark beer drinker. I am thinking of trying makers mark when I eventually make it through the Wild Turkey.

    • @BourbonRealTalk
      @BourbonRealTalk  2 роки тому +2

      That is great! You have your whole life to figure out what you like. No rush and no need to push yourself. Just make sure you are drinking responsibly and it is fun for you. If you have a desire to work your way into neat pours (which is the lowest calorie way to drink), don't be afraid to drink cocktails. Over time mix them a little stronger until you are used to the higher proof. Then switch to water and ice and reduce the water over time. Keep on that path and you will either end up drinking neat, or find a way to drink your whiskey that you enjoy so much you just stop trying to drink it straight. Cheers!

    I personally think Maker's Cask Strength gives Weller Antique a run for it's money. And yes yes yes, 1792 always has some sort of banana flavor, whether it be artificial banana, over ripened banana, or bubble gum (which is actually artificial strawberry banana flavoring), always always always with the bananas. Recently had a 1792 single barrel that distinctly DISTINCTLY had a heavy unripenned or green banana flavor, which sounds gross, but was actually pretty pleasant with the vanilla, cinnamon, oak notes floating around behind it...

    • @BourbonRealTalk
      @BourbonRealTalk  2 роки тому +1

      Fun fact. Banana runts/laffy taffy/"fake banana" is the real banana flavor, and the bananas we eat now are imposters. When Banana's first came into popularity we ate a species of banana called Gros Michel. The "fake banana" flavor we taste in candy was invented when Gros Michel was still the banana people were eating. It went extinct in 1965 and now we eat Cavendish bananas. People who grew up eating Cavendish bananas think banana runts taste like a "fake banana" flavor.

    Elijah craig is considered the father of bourbon bc he was the first to use char oak barrels for aging whiskey.

    • @BourbonRealTalk
      @BourbonRealTalk  Рік тому

      I know it says that on the bottle and the HH website, but that story is must marketing puffery. Many of the origin stories on bourbon bottles are fabricated. Elijah Craig was a real person. He was a baptist minister that did grow corn and make bourbon, but he was not the first to use charred oak barrels for aging. This practice was likely popularized by the Tarascon brothers. So, more of a scotch drinker here. I actually came into bourbon from Scotch since you can’t have Scotch without old bourbon barrels I thought I should explore it more. What I miss most with bourbon is that smoke I get from Islay. Is there any bourbon that includes some smoke in the tasting?

    • @BourbonRealTalk
      @BourbonRealTalk  2 роки тому

      You would love Ironroot Icarus. It is finished in Islay casks. You could also check out High West campfire and for a really shocking experience Balcones brimstone. The last two are not bourbons. The whiskey I get the most smoke flavor from are the toasted barrel finished, but it adds so much sweet caramelized sugar flavor that it may be off-putting to someone looking for smokey briny. Not sure who else has an Islay cask finish besides Icarus. Try a pour of Woodford double oak and see if the additional smoke hits you right or if it is too sweet.

    • @BourbonRealTalk
      @BourbonRealTalk  2 роки тому +1

      I am doing a podcast on this. There are a lot misconception about alcohol and dieting. Case in point there is ZERO sugar in bourbon. People believe that whiskey throughs them out of Ketosis. In fact, all un-adulterated distilled spirits are devoid of all compounds that affect metabolism except ethanol, which your body can not metabolize as fat. It must convert it to ATP to get rid of it, and your body views it as poison. Your body uses ethanol for energy (even brain energy) before food calories. This is why drinking affects your diet because your body stores your food calories as fat while it is processing the ethanol. Beer and wine are full of other compounds that do affect your metabolism. I have helped at least 6 men lose over 30 lbs just by switching them from beer/cider to whiskey. I work out 5 days a week by doing heavy strength training. I am on testosterone replacement therapy (200 mg per week). I try do to 30 min of low impact cardio 5 days a week, but when I am busy (which happens often) this gets skipped. Hope this helps. Not sure when I am doing the episode on this, but I am hoping to dispel some myths and help people achieve their fitness goals while maintaining a quality of life that make the process sustainable. Cheers.

    Well that was a Fantastic Top Ten List! I don't understand the infighting over Tennessee Whiskey vs Bourbon, it's like Ford vs Chevy guys,...it's all whiskey just like they are all internal combustion products. Anyway, thanks for your personal insight Randy, I'll have to look for some of those up here. Canada has limited shelf space for Bourbons it would seem, which makes it fun to try and track down certain bottles and frustrating that we get such a narrow selection. The good news is it is getting better! Seems Covid-19 has helped turn our Nation on to whiskey / whisky from all over not just Canada and Scotland. With luck it won't be too far off that I can go into my local liquor store and pick up a bottle of Old Forester 1920, or Knob Creek Cask Strength, 1792 etc.
