Or maybe quit putting all your decisions on God's shoulders. Every parcel you just saw is capable of having a hurricane proof home put on it for barely any more money. I should know as I live there and did not evacuate. No damage other than water in my garage. You just love the story I guess.
Tampa was spared? Tampa sat in the northern eye wall for at least five hours, getting pounded by hurricane force winds and a foot of rain. 71% of Hillsborough county is out of power, there is flooding all over the city, trees are down in every neighborhood, many buildings have wind damage. Two weeks ago, Tampa experienced its highest storm surge since 1921. Tampa wasn’t spared at all.
I don’t understand why people build houses at ground level knowing that storm surges are always a risk with these storms- so damn sad. Building codes need to reflect the reality of living in an area like this.
100% agree. Within the first few minutes when he is talking about a neighbours trailer and we are looking out to sea. My thoughts were ‘who builds something so fragile on a virtually flat piece of land right on the sea in a hurricane zone and NOT expect one day for it to be hit big time.
These areas should only have solid apartment buildings for people with the lower part adampted for flooding, trailer parcs like that get destroyed and flooded every year, no use to rebuild all the time
First Glad to see ok. Hope you and your family escaped harm and damage of your home. 2nd I really feel for all these people that have been hit by both Helene and Milton. I wish everyone all the love and courage I can muster and hope you'll be able to rebuild your lives - thinking of you all ❤
I appreciate you watching and it’s why I share stories from people rather than just show the damage, because I think it helps connect others to the reality of the loss
I have only come across your videos and I appreciate your coverage not just coz of its simplicity, but also because you tell story of the people and not some sensationalism narrated by media, which dumbs down and makes audience numb to the suffering of individuals by depleting their dopamine. I wish you success with your channel.
I really appreciate how your reporting focuses on the people. Anyone can fly a drone over devastated neighbourhoods. My parents lost their home during hurricane Fiona. Pictures of their wrecked home were shared widely but no one did what you have done here and share their story. Thank you.
I genuinely feel terrible for anyone who loses their home to a disaster. However, these people certainly knew and understood the risk that comes with living on the water in Florida!
I live in Tampa and after this storm I'm so thankful that we (and even more so, my family) got exceptionally lucky. Tampa always gets out of it, but this time it was too close for comfort, and even then most of us lost power or have significant damage. Scariest night of our lives by far
Plus there are houses built before they stiffened the construction regulations after that hurricane (that I can never remember the name of) that hit in the 1990s. So there’s still older houses that don’t meet those standards. You could really see the difference in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael.
@@Plutogalaxy Even regular houses in the US are made of wood, when I hear Americans talk about punching holes through walls, that really confused me, until I learned how their houses are made.
big reason imo is that FEMA code concrete houses take months to build vs wooden houses that take only a few weeks. Also a lot of the houses in the video precede resilience building codes
You report with love and empathy. Just so heartbreaking. God give them the grace to move on. Send Divine helpers to accelerate the rebuilding and healing process.
Jonathan, The guy who was sleeping on the boat was the ultimate, thank you for sharing that and you became a part of the news there. God Bless you Brother, Love you.
I had 4 feet of water in my home from Helene. I am blessed that Milton didn't do much more damage--and the company hired to remove the debris from our neighborhood did a fantastic job in removing all the storm debris before Milton hit. Our neighbors that were not affected, drove up and down the streets bringing meals almost daily. At the next door neighborhood civic building--people brought in trucks of ice, and set up SBA and FEMA stations. The Walmart parking lot had Hope set up giving out gatorade bottles, water, and necessary hygiene toiletries. I live in the best community area you could hope for in Hudson, FL.
We went through Andrew in 92. We were just like these people. Shell shocked. Not sure where to start. Things start to mold. We had to demolish and raise the foundation of the new house. Took 3 years. We finally sold the completed house and moved back to TX. I know exactly how these people feel. It’s so sad. 🙏🏻
Thank you. From the national coverage I thought Milton was nothing like Helene. For these people it was much worse. It should give pause to people thinking of moving to Florida to retire. They might find themselves working harder than ever, which is something I know about from living through a wildfire. Ten years later, still replanting trees.
I'm so sorry to hear about the devastation caused by Hurricane Milton, especially for those communities that were already struggling to rebuild after Hurricane Helene. It’s heartbreaking to think about the lasting impact the flooding and storm surge will have on so many people's lives. Glad you enjoyed it! It was a marathon, and I am glad I found these stories, I think it truly shows the biggest impacts of these storms which is the loss of community
I think some mean it wasn’t as bad as what could have happened. If the storm hits further north for instance and doesn’t weaken as much. That sort of thing.
If these people decide to stay they need to rebuild their houses on stilts, how the council allowed that land to be zoned for any other structure is just criminal.

I lived in this area for 16 years. I used to bike on Manasota Key every day! My grandparents had a mobile home in Englewood that was put on their land in 1972. It has survived all of these years without even flooding...now?? It's a different story! This is a very extreme change in weather and storms
I give it another 20 years it won't be no trailer parks on the beach. The sea level is rising and the water is getting hotter. Everybody wants to ignore the main reason.
I doubt it will take that long. More like 5-10 years. Unless ‘trailer parks’ surprise us and evolve into something completely different that can stand the weather.
Do these people not know where they live? Not a single parcel could not have a home on it that is hurricane proof. How can I support a group of people that build a trailer park in tornado alley? I can't be bothered by this.
We send billions of dollars yearly to Israel and Egypt and over 200 billion dollars to Ukraine, but when the American people need help, we don't have it'
in germany we don`t have it either. we had some high water a few years ago and last year. from government no help but fancy photos in the end the neighbours and citizen stuck together. in this video people with houses at the beach in florida are rich and i think there will be a fast rebuild.

To hear this man said that trailer been in the family for 50 years. Omg!! This is really heartbreaking. I am glad you guys follwed the evacuation rule, and you're okay. However, I am very sorry that you have lost your homes. God bless you all.😞❤️❤️
I don't understand why the state can't help those people build solid concrete houses to stop this kind of mess. Those people work, contribute to the welfare of the state, so they have to suffer so much every time. It would be much better to build apartment blocks in those places and let them live instead of seeing this mess every year. This mess can be stopped by using solid concrete houses instead of wooden ones. Florida doesn't seem to have home engineers and correct building codes in such dangerous areas. What a shame, this is America and not some underdeveloped country.
If the government paid for housing we would all be living in bleak, Soviet block style housing. The problem has been the 1968 National Flood Insurance Act. It has allowed people to be wreckless where they build, ignoring consequences and subsidizing bad decisions
It's all a lightweight construction. No steel or concrete. Simple fodder for storms. It's amazing that something like this gets approved by your building authorities.
I agree. We live in re-enforced concrete houses and it survived a cat 5 right over top. The next neighborhood over was manufactured housing and they were destroyed.
One more reason not to put money in a REIT. They’ve bought up a lot of trailer parks in Florida and pushed low income people out and jacked up lot rent to insane levels to get a return on their investment. But the joke is on them, these parks are going to be less and less desirable to the snowbirds they are trying to gouge.
You know what we should do. For every nature effecting storm, damage. We should all stop working take a pause and all help clearing it up. Put it all on pause, like in the old days. People help people. Sad we can't do that anymore.
Thanks for the follow up on Lt. Dan. I don't understand why he didn't sail/motor his home to a city far enough away from the hurricane. I have an aunt in Sarasota and another aunt and uncle in the Ft. Lauderdale area so I'm subscribing in this time of climate change.

Or maybe quit putting all your decisions on God's shoulders. Every parcel you just saw is capable of having a hurricane proof home put on it for barely any more money. I should know as I live there and did not evacuate. No damage other than water in my garage. You just love the story I guess.
system HAARP = powerful weather weapon against People,
Tampa was spared? Tampa sat in the northern eye wall for at least five hours, getting pounded by hurricane force winds and a foot of rain. 71% of Hillsborough county is out of power, there is flooding all over the city, trees are down in every neighborhood, many buildings have wind damage. Two weeks ago, Tampa experienced its highest storm surge since 1921. Tampa wasn’t spared at all.
Tampa native here. It was brutal.
I don’t understand why people build houses at ground level knowing that storm surges are always a risk with these storms- so damn sad. Building codes need to reflect the reality of living in an area like this.
100% correct Why ?😢
no foresight, and it's more expensive... @@cherylcaardillo1702
100% agree. Within the first few minutes when he is talking about a neighbours trailer and we are looking out to sea. My thoughts were ‘who builds something so fragile on a virtually flat piece of land right on the sea in a hurricane zone and NOT expect one day for it to be hit big time.
@xr6lad well said "something so fragile."
These areas should only have solid apartment buildings for people with the lower part adampted for flooding, trailer parcs like that get destroyed and flooded every year, no use to rebuild all the time
Prayers of millions saved Florida
First Glad to see ok. Hope you and your family escaped harm and damage of your home. 2nd I really feel for all these people that have been hit by both Helene and Milton. We have been praying for all those affected by Helene and the all the workers restoring power and all the infrastructure. Stay safe my friend!
Thank you as always! Fortunately just minor issues at the house. Some cleanup. Very lucky
@@JonathanPetramala I am so happy for you and to see the growth of your YT Channel. You deserve it and have worked hard!

Devastating, my heart breaks for the retirees losing their homes .
Love your channel , great work .
If you ever come to Northern California to cover any wildfires and need someone local to help you get around let me know. Again, thank you for your compassion and empathy in your videos, and I'm sorry you are going through this again.
I appreciate that! We come up to NoCal every winter for snow and sometimes for fire but it’s been a couple of years!
Crikey!
I expect many of us in the UK have been viewing the devastation caused by hurricane Milton.
Watching this video really brings it home how much all the residents have lost.
I wish everyone all the love and courage I can muster and hope you'll be able to rebuild your lives - thinking of you all ❤
I appreciate you watching and it’s why I share stories from people rather than just show the damage, because I think it helps connect others to the reality of the loss
Prayer for all the victims of Helene and Milton. Amen.

So heartbreaking. Prayers from New Zealand. I can't even imagine what it would be like coping with all this. You guys are amazing xxx
I have only come across your videos and I appreciate your coverage not just coz of its simplicity, but also because you tell story of the people and not some sensationalism narrated by media, which dumbs down and makes audience numb to the suffering of individuals by depleting their dopamine. I wish you success with your channel.
Thank you, I am glad you recognize the difference

I really appreciate how your reporting focuses on the people. Anyone can fly a drone over devastated neighbourhoods. My parents lost their home during hurricane Fiona. Pictures of their wrecked home were shared widely but no one did what you have done here and share their story. Thank you.
The storm was devastating, thank you for sharing this place with everyone.
I appreciate you watching
Thank God everyone's safe and also Jay and his boat❤ thank you for your kind coverage 🙏 🙌 ❤
Everyone? Seriously?
Not everyone is safe. Many died. Again. Twice in a month.

This is exceptional reporting. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
I genuinely feel terrible for anyone who loses their home to a disaster. However, these people certainly knew and understood the risk that comes with living on the water in Florida!
It’s like Vegas…the house always wins
I live in Tampa and after this storm I'm so thankful that we (and even more so, my family) got exceptionally lucky. Tampa always gets out of it, but this time it was too close for comfort, and even then most of us lost power or have significant damage. Scariest night of our lives by far
Thank you for these videos, they are so much better in content and quality than what I can get anywhere else
Thank you for sharing the devastation caused by Helene and Milton. It's heartbreaking.
Why does nobody build their homes with concrete instead of wood, specially in a coastal area known for hurricans?
I think cost has a big part of this
Plus there are houses built before they stiffened the construction regulations after that hurricane (that I can never remember the name of) that hit in the 1990s. So there’s still older houses that don’t meet those standards. You could really see the difference in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael.
@@JonathanPetramala In a lot of poorer countries we use reinforced concrete and bricks/blocks.
Thank you and I appreciate your positivity

That is a very cool story and experience...I am sorry what you are going with from Helene though!
I love your journalism. it's real. gritty. heartfelt.

I was born in Clearwater, FL. My mom and dad was born here too. I've seen it all when it comes to weather here. I'd never thought about leaving.
Born in St Pete and lived in largo/Seminole my whole life and also never thought about leaving. I love the storms
My thoughts are with everyone affected, and I hope recovery efforts can bring some relief and support to these hard-hit areas. ❤❤❤
Very kind of you

Glad you enjoyed it! It was a marathon, and I am glad I found these stories, I think it truly shows the biggest impacts of these storms which is the loss of community
I keep seeing “Milton wasn’t that bad.” I keep saying yes it was. Your video proves it. So sad.
I think some mean it wasn’t as bad as what could have happened. If the storm hits further north for instance and doesn’t weaken as much. That sort of thing.
There was a family that strapped their roof on using yellow straps. Are they ok?
So sorry for all the people who had to suffer it... hope everyone would be alright and make it through the storm
If these people decide to stay they need to rebuild their houses on stilts, how the council allowed that land to be zoned for any other structure is just criminal.
For 100 years, most of these areas didn't need stilts. Weather manipulation patents started in 1947 and escalated this and other hurricanes.
Been there for decades great grandparents owned those fishing towns.
Seems like a land grab to me @@joinjen3854
@@joinjen3854 So was this hurricane caused by weather manipulation? If so, need facts to substantiate.

As sad as this is, it's not getting better. It will only continue to get worse. This is why insurance in Florida is at best expensive and at worst non-existent.

You definitely understand though
Now just imagine what American bombs, weapons and money sent to the colonial occupiers are doing to innocent kid's, women children and elderly in Palestine every day and what they have to deal with every day 😢
I feel terrible for everyone involved but take this as a lesson to not live in a state that is doomed by hurricanes. It’s not like this came out of nowhere. This is and will always be what happen to people that decide to live in Florida. At a point, it’s hard to feel bad for them.
I am currently in Australia. The other day, I told my boss that the cranes might cause issues during the storm. Stay strong guys!
They certainly did
I lived in this area for 16 years. I used to bike on Manasota Key every day! My grandparents had a mobile home in Englewood that was put on their land in 1972. It has survived all of these years without even flooding...now?? It's a different story! This is a very extreme change in weather and storms
God bless all of the people and families.❤😊
I give it another 20 years it won't be no trailer parks on the beach. The sea level is rising and the water is getting hotter. Everybody wants to ignore the main reason.
I doubt it will take that long. More like 5-10 years. Unless ‘trailer parks’ surprise us and evolve into something completely different that can stand the weather.
Do these people not know where they live? Not a single parcel could not have a home on it that is hurricane proof. How can I support a group of people that build a trailer park in tornado alley? I can't be bothered by this.

Thank you for your endepth and lengthy hurricane aftermath reporting. The local news channels don't devote the time that you do in your reporting.
Absolutely, it’s because it isn’t easy and support like yours really helps and matters
