If there ever was a guitar player who would be the equivalent of Picasso in terms of mastery, inventiveness, freedom and discipline, it's Birely. Stunning, indescribable, beauty and elegance and grittiness and playfulness and everything in-between. Brings unlimited happiness to my heart :)
I saw him the first time he visited England at age 17 and he played a lengthy 5 string fretless guitar solo...the audience was spellbound. I thought he would go on to eclipse Clapton, Hendrix and Page as a 'Guitar Legend'. Great to see him healthy and still enjoying his talent.
@ Joey Simeone : it's "Jazz a Vienne" (Vienne is a city 50 miles south of Lyons, in France). I agree with you, it is a magnificent DVD, with fine solos of Bireli and of his special guests (Stochelo Rosenberg, David Reinhardt, Angelo Debarre, Tchavolo Schmitt, to name only a few of these superb musicians...). Some of it can be found on UA-cam (but the image quality is rather low...)
I respectfully disagree. I would but Holdsworth first in the "improvisation to an unreachable level" both timewise and musically wise. Then in gypsy jazz, you may also have forgot Boulou Ferré from 1960
@@ber334 Like tatum he has a photographic musical memory plus perfect pitch. He can hear anything once or twice and he knows even without playing what it is! George Benson can look at your hands and listen then know what it is you are playing.
C'est du lourd... Chapeau...
Damn... he's good ! Seen his name go by but never took any time to listen to his playing. Absolutely amazing. He has his spot amongst the Rosenbergs, Reinhardt as well as the American jazz gang of legends imo.
Man! I love Birelli!!! Django meets Mozart (at 1:48) and ends up with Danny Cedrone (Bill haley's guitar player -Rock around the clock- who sadly died much too early in 1954, aged 34)
Thing I love about Birelli (amongst many things) is that he brings a sophistication and credibility to electric guitar again (yes a subjective perspective) but I always felt that the manouche guitar was the only real expression and the pure form. I guess we get images and ideals stuck in our head...but Birelli crosses so many borders comfortably...
I believe it's a 611 not a 311 but still it's a 600.00 guitar instead of a 300.00 guitar. You could give him a box of rubber bands and he'd find a way to make it sound good.
Is that a Yamaha Pacifica 311h? It looks like it except it has a vibrato bridge. I love the fact that a professional guitarist of this caliber plays a €300 guitar!
I wonder how good of players are the ones that put the “thumb down” they couldn’t even carry the “pick” of Birelli, jealousy and envy runs deep in their soul. 👎🏻
I love bireli but have you ever heard him play a slow blues solo? He's not great at it!! He's a technical master and amazing at his own style, as is Eric. Not a competition though. 👍
@fusionaut23 There are so many good guitarplayers nowerdays, Clapton was one of few worldclass players in the 60/70ies in the Bluesgenre. He ist very good , no doubt, but I saw him severals times on stage and-for me- he was very vain and to cool. An outstanding guitarist who cover almost any style is Tommy Emmanuel and he is a nice guy, for me he is Nr. 1 if somebody like a ranking.......
Birelli end his lead part, thinking, "OMG, why did I pickup this guitar that makes me so inacurate?" But he smiles because he knows he's gonna get away with it. As we say in France "c'est qu'un mauvais moment à passer, souris et ça va le faire"
Greatest guitarist in the world
Agree
Wow Birelli actually looks happy here and his playing is better than normal because he was happy and relaxed. Nice!!

never thought of that, totally agree
has for me at least
Excellent commentary Alex, couldn't agree more, an absolutely stunning talent and dexterity on the guitar!

he never disappoints… his taste, creativity, fun, inspiration, technique etc just awesome… in this combination way above the others.
And there you have it. One of the greatest guitarists to ever visit earth
Wow i knew he was good but that was way beyond must have been a fun concert

Awesome! Bireli understands that jazz was originally supposed to be fun. I think that gets lost on a lot of modern listeners and players
Took the words from my mouth
Omg, thank you for saying this.
Spot on
Bireli is awesome. It sounds like he switched from Minor Swing to Major Swing after the bass solo. LOL!
ATENTTION: The thump down is not the button of download.
We in Illinois have some Polish relatives in the family, I am Finnish-American & wife has Bohemian roots.
why you sharing this? that got nothing to do with this.. they not gipsy's
2:58 absolutely love that line
its like an entire freddy green song built into a single run
i think that birelli is the first guitarist that has redefined improvisation to an unreachable level
maybe ahead of his time..he certainly has more"moments" than other improvisers today . Check out Art Tatum
i love Birelli...but on my opinion the first guitarist that has redefined improvisation to an unreachable level was George Benson

@@MrJairCarvalho Absolutely, Benson smokes the hell out of practically every guitar player on Earth.
absolute genius maverick next level guitar music god all hail lord bireli
Beautiful! I could listen to this all day!
Otherworldly. This is music at its best.

It is very rarely to see Bireli smile that much during a performance :D
Best improvizations!!!

Genius. speechless...
Bireli il migliore di sempre! Continua ispirazione.
That old KGB-agent to the left of Bireli's ankle is such a ray of sunlight isn't he? Adorable :D
like this! Sounds like Bireli's been listening to Junior Barnard and Chuck Berry. Good stuff.
Such a pleasure to listen to
Bravo!!!!

When you need permission or permission needs you
That's so amazing 👏
Awesome playing
THE BEST OF THE BEST
Nice to see him on a solid electric with tremolo. I think the guitar is a Yamaha Pacifica 311 H.
I believe it's a 611 not a 311 but still it's a 600.00 guitar instead of a 300.00 guitar. You could give him a box of rubber bands and he'd find a way to make it sound good.
Bravo 👏
Major Swing by Django Reinease, my favourite tune
Is that a Yamaha Pacifica 311h? It looks like it except it has a vibrato bridge. I love the fact that a professional guitarist of this caliber plays a €300 guitar!
Yes a Yamaha Pacifica and yes it is so refreshing to see he is not playing a $5000 instrument!! Keeping it real!
No it's a 611 but not too much difference. 600 dollars vs 300 dollars.
It's a 611VFM
It's pacifica 311 (the headstock is not painted)
No, it's a 611. The 311 does not have a gloss finished and tinted neck like the 611.
who's the best ? bireli or benson ? 2 both amazing musicians
Wow that's really weird! I play gypsy jazz on a black Yammy! I was going to sell it but am reconsidering now...
One of the greatest! :)

nice bass too!
im sorry. Everything he touches is truly great, but this.... this is OTHERWORLDLY
I believe that maestro Birelli is similarly timless genius as e g Django or Errol Gardner.
At 1:49 what’s that tune he’s quoting? Thanks
Birelli always reinventing himself, getting sound where there aren't
I wanna see Bireli play with Esperanza Spalding or Hiromi.
Or being a guest on a Snarky Puppy Family Dîner...
What a monster player
Is there a way to get a high quality recording of the Bireli Trio's performance at this 2016 festival?
best quality is watching him live :)
Check Mozart tune at 1:48
Brilliant!
Weltklasse!
Zowie...!!! Excellent!
He's a beast ,it's swing it's just ,,,wow
nice one bireli
Excellent 🤟🏻🕶️🥃🥃
Oh that phrasing, delicious
C'est un bon trio ca !!
Tout simplement "genial"
Biréli Lagrène ❤️🌌
Great jazz...
2:10 motif of Les Parapluies de Cherbourg
Which Selmer model is he playing? Or is that a Busato or Favino?
Bireli is used to play on Dupont guitars more oftently , but even on Hahls guitars,...:)
I wonder how good of players are the ones that put the “thumb down” they couldn’t even carry the “pick” of Birelli, jealousy and envy runs deep in their soul. 👎🏻
Nice!!😊
The shortest 8 mins I've ever experienced

Genial.

It's only rock and roll :D
they call Eric Clapton God on the guitar , he couldn't last 3 secs into this

fender sound good
It's clearly not a fender. Doesn't even have fender style pickups. They are gibson style p90's
That amp is a Fender. The guitar looks like a Yamaha Pacifica.
not Fender, Yamaha Pacifica !
Birelli sounds gooood :) He could perform even on a washboard I suppose

Minor to major swing
King Bireli...
Could Steve Vai be this good...
Art Dude not a chance. Couldn’t last two seconds with Bireli
Oh yeah 👍
This is what Django would have sounded like if he'd had all 5 fingers.
that guitar isnt a fender isnt it?
Yamaha 611

WOWOWOWOWOW!!!!! :-D
Everyone see that he missed his Selmer
Every upright bass solo I've ever heard sounds the same. Bireli is phenomenal. He went from Django to Brian Setzer after the bass solo.
Nice to the FBI is keeping the area safe😎 Swings like crazy!
