Wonderful memory of your son and a terrific tweak to the recipe. Couldn't believe they took recipe off the box. Grew up during teen years making this on Sunday mornings about twice a month. Fantastic memories. Tfs!!!
Just made this with the gently folding in the crumble topping. Genius!! This is incredible. Uhhh, I ate, piece by piece, half of this coffee cake in three hours. 😬 Yikes, I couldn’t control myself. Thank you for this recipe and technique.
Thank you for making a video that everyone can understand simple and easy that is quick to make. I am glad to have this to make for those surprise people that show up at the door. I liked making something for my children for when they came home from school as well.
I've made this for years also, but the recipe I've used was making it a richer cake by adding another 2 tbsp of sugar and 2 tbsp of oil. I'm going to try it your way and see if I like that better. Thanks for the video.
I love that you have the old box. That is something I would do. People think I am crazy but will always ask me to make something for them or give them the recipe. Lol
I’ve been using flavored coffee creamer to replace milk in dessert recipes and I LOVE the taste! It enhances the flavor of the cake! 🎉Thank you for this recipe ❤
I also save parts of boxes and labels that have recipies on them. I use them as markers in my recipie box and recipie notebooks. Thanks for the retro recipie.
For those without Pinterest or printers: *Original Recipe* Preheat 375 degree oven, grease 9 inch round pan (8 inch square works also) *Streusel Topping (mix and set aside)* 1/3 cup Bisquick 1/3 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 2 tablespoons firm butter mix together till crumbly *Cake* 1 2/3 cups Bisquick 2/3 cup milk (or water) 2 TB sugar (tablespoons) 1 egg MIX together, beat 30 seconds. Spread in pan, sprinkle with Streusel Topping. Bake 18-22 minutes or until golden brown When I made this recipe it said to put the streusel in the pan FIRST, then put the batter on top and bake. You flip it over after it cools and the streusel ends up on the top. Sometimes I would put banana slices on the pan bottom also. In looking at this I realize you could probably substitute Sour Cream for the milk for added richness. I was out of milk making macaroni and cheese and used either plain yogurt or sour cream and it was fine.
I was dismayed when they stop putting the recipe on the box. I also made this for years for the kids when they got home from school.(30 some yrs ago). Now I make it for people in my building. Now in my mid 60s : - )
Thank you for this old recipe from an old bisquick box. I really appreciate it. My mom use to make this on Sundays a lot for breakfast for my dad, my siblings, and myself when were kids. It was so good. I remember the kitchen smelling really good because of the coffee cake baking in the oven and the coffee my parents would fix and drink. I’m going to make this either tomorrow (Saturday) or Sunday😇. Thank you again.
@@sewcrafty1 Thank you. I haven’t made it yet but will and looking forward to it. Yummy 😋. Edit: Update several hours later. I made it and it was delicious with my coffee🥰. I enjoyed it a lot and will have leftovers for a couple of days. It didn’t taste like my moms though so she must have made it with all purpose flour. The topping was extremely close. I think my mom just doubled up on the ingredients with even more extra butter. I’ll be making this again though but might double up the topping ingredients. This was fun to make. Thank you again.
1/27/22: This was SO cool of you to post the original recipe, which I immediately took the liberty of typing into my recipes. I can't wait to make this tomorrow. Thank you for posting it.
@@sewcrafty1 Sandy? My name is Conishkee, but it's all good. I know you meant well. I tried the recipe last night and OMG, you were right. My home smelled not only amazing, but the recipe itself came out wonderfully moist and flavorful. I used parchment paper and sprayed it; came out like a charm! I even put a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on top! How's that for decadent? Thanks again.
I made this for my weekly coffee group, and they bonkers over it,I glazed my with powdered sugar and milk,I will make this again! Tell your son “thank you” for the delicious “mistake”.
I used to make that all the time, and now the recipe isn't there anymore. Sometimes I'd put sliced bananas on the bottom of the pan, which became the top of the cake after baking
Thx girl for sharing your way! I’ve made it the other way forever, now I’ll try yours. Love this recipe. Will let you know how mine turns out. Thx again! Oh and btw tell your son thx too lol
this looks amazing!!! toll house was a "mistake " too by the way! i will also add some chopped pecans and i will add another blend of streusel to the top, cuz just cuz...thanks for this recipe, going to make right now!
@@sewcrafty1 this was by far, my fav coffee cake recipe! hubby says he prefers no nuts next time, but it is a winner. I also at the last minute added 3 TBSP of apple butter and swirled them in before baking. I don't think it made that big of a difference and is probably best just omitting....I love the streusel mixed in, it is def a very happy "accident" =) thanks for the idea =)
Alternative for "Bisquick"-pancake-mix: For the Crumb: Just substitute B.Mix for Plain-Old flour. 1) Mix & Set Aside: 2 cups=5 dl=½ ltr "All Purpose/Plain Old" Wheat-Flour + 5 Teaspoons (Tsp) BakingPowder + 5 Tsp granulated Sugar. (optional: 1 tsp salt + Vanilla: Powdered &/or Extract) 2) Mix separately & add to Flour-mix: Whisk 5 m/l Eggs + THEN add: 1 Cup=2½ dl=1/4 ltr Water-&-Cremefraiche (38% fat) mixture or Milk-&-"Full Fat" Cream (appr. 38% fat) CAN BE LEFT - covered - IN FRIDGE for up to 8 hrs: Mix-in-the-morning ... Bake-Later-in-the-day. B-D 3) (IF left in fridge: Add ½-1 cup Boiled-&-Cooled-Down water. THEN...) Add ½ cup=1,25 dl=1/8 ltr Taste"free" Cooking-Oil (I use Rapeseed oil - or melt 150 g Butter, let cool - and...) Add to dough-mix. Mix in well! Leave to rest, while mixing Crumb. Put in greased/papered Baking Pan... Bake... Eat.
I almost wanted to jump out the window before this was finally over. edit, edit, edit or speed things up a little. Oh and BTW I prefer my crumble on the top
