When I'm going for a PR, I'll progress to a rep that's 90% of my known 1RM. If that feels easy, I know a new PR is coming. I always skip over my old PR when I'm going for a new one.
Don't use it for sub-maximal work. Only if going for rep maxes with high reps. And use it for 5 reps or less especially if you're working close to or at failure. Don't rely on it as a crutch. Use it for safety.
got kind of a specific question: so ive recently been trying to incorporate power movements into my training cuz i want my work in the gym to translate to better general athleticism (and more specifically being able to jump higher and sprint faster). rn bc of my schedule i’m running full body w 2 alternating workouts, and on one day i’m doing hang power snatches and on the other i’m doing weighted box jumps (obviously these are in addition to my normal strength work). is that a good pair of movements for improving athleticism? i’m having some trouble w oly lift variations cuz i can’t afford a coach and the movements are super unfamiliar for me - should i replace an oly lift variation with something else? ig this is a multi-part question lol any advice would be appreciated
Yeah that is a good pairing to do. If possible, find another time to do the Olympic lifts so that you can get better with them. Once per week probably isn’t enough to do.

Good stuff Will

What do you think about using weight belts for heavy lifts

I think it’s fine to do
