A big thanks to the @Coribald for not only preserving Bucky's run (and a whole lot of other X-Games history on their channel), but also upscaling it. Check out their channel if you wanna see more Retro X-Games. www.youtube.com/@coribald
You’re so right. I think for someone who doesn’t know what they’re looking at, it’s not obvious that Bucky’s run is difficult. But Bob’s run clearly feels precarious which makes it hype
Glad I'm not the only one who sees it that way. Because Bucky's run was lost for so long, I was expecting it to be a bit more than it was compared to Bob's.
@@GohLow it’s like how watching Manchester City win an FA Cup final is a lot less exciting for the neutral than watching Wigan win it, even though the Manchester City players are technically better
I don't have much to say. Good video, I enjoyed watching it. Putting this here to please the algorithm because more people should watch this I never thought how street skating's growth in popularity is correlated to the 90's recession, but it makes a whole lot of sense
And I have to agree with the main point of the video. It's still a huge shame how such a great run was lost to time for such a long time, but it makes sense that it just looks less hard due to how well it was performed
Nice retrospective for all of folks who only know the names who showed up in the Skate/Tony Hawk games. I think I see why Bob's recording survived but it is a shame that lost media even in the early 2000s for televised sports is a thing. I'd make sure to get it on Internet Archive and perhaps elsewhere to be safe. I did see some clips from the X-Games or extreme sports but never got too into it though I respected anyone who gave them a go or went pro.
Yeah I made sure to remember who my core audience is on this channel when working out that intro. And it is really fucking nuts that there isn't some publicly available place to watch all the old X-Games, like why isn't that an advertising point for ESPN+ or something? Good luck finding ANYTHING from 2003 to 2009 that isn't chopped to shit. Full contest broadcasts from that period may well be completely lost.
Bob's score in a different year being lower than Bucky's score doesn't really say much. Those scores are to a degree subjective, not perfectly objective accounts of specific tricks for specific points. They're both amazing runs, but Bob's is pretty clearly more memorable. I watched both of these X-Games back in the day, and I vividly remember Bob's run.
I think it's more comparable since they're only a year apart. It's not like I was asking "Why is Bucky's run from 2000 scored higher than Elliot Sloan's run in 2020"

Can you link them in the description? I wasn't able to track the channel down from just the name.
