    Great overview!
    The suunto S hardware is exactly what I am missing from Garmin: A middle size watch which isn’t plasticky and doesn’t have ridiculous bezels. The 745 or 645 had this role in the past but we’ve never gotten any successor to those 😢

    Great review. I have the old Suunto 9 Baro. It's time for an upgrade. I am thinking about the Amazfit T-rex 3 or Suunto Race S. My dream watch is the Garmin 965 but it's expensive. What would you recommend?

  • @aaronmgriffin
    @aaronmgriffin 2 місяці тому +2

    Hey man, new subscriber here. Your content is exactly what I'm looking for right now. I was looking to upgrade to a FR 265 and have been stuck in analysis paralysis comparing to Suunto, Coros, Polar, and Whoop. I do a lot of martial arts (that pretty much require a bicep strap) and strongman style strength training, as well as sprinting once a week. What's throwing me off on the Garmin is that it seems to mostly target running, and I worry I'm buying a bunch of features I'm not using.
    So if we assume I'm almost always using a external HRM when training, do you think these two even out a bit more?

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  2 місяці тому +4

      @@aaronmgriffin thank you so much! I would say either would be just fine. There are a lot of stats that are running specific with Garmin, but there are also a lot of stats specific to Garmin that are just helpful for training evaluation and recovery as well, but the same can be said of Suunto. If you maintain a heavy training load, I would probably say Garmin would be a little bit better because of the more in depth recovery, analysis, and recovery time tracking, but a lot of of their recovery evaluation metrics, like "training readiness," are not totally worthwhile either at the same time. You basically have to use subset of the information, if that makes any sense.

    That heart rate sensor really is their Achilles heel here.

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  2 місяці тому +9

      @@ZachGottlieb I know. This is definitely better than the first but still not good enough. Although it is interesting if you look at the heart rate accuracy universe. Nobody other than Garmin and Apple are putting out accurate heart rate sensors for the most part. WHOOP is not accurate, Coros is worse, polar is just as bad, Samsung Galaxy recent watch just as bad, etc., etc. Even the Garmin elevate 4.0 which is still on a lot of their current watches is better, but not that much better. The big thing with the original race was it was horrific, so this is better

      The map on the Race S doesn't even include any informations about the area. No names of the streets or even the cities! In addition to that, the rotating crown is not very responsive which make the task more complicated while running. I bought the watch 2 days ago and I'm very disappointed unfortunately.

    I own a Garmin 255, I'm happy with it, but I liked the Coros world better both in terms of interface and use of my pace 3, now I'm considering the idea of switching to Suunto race, what do you think? Then I would like to ask you, seeing your review of the normal Suunto race and I saw the problem on the intervals that does not indicate which one you are on, could you tell me if the problem has been solved with an update I have with the release of this race S?
