    I got my suunto race S in August last year and at first I loved it and would sing it praises it to anyone, however a few months ago the start activity button didn't work before a run, so had to restart the watch, then it doesn't track sleep well at all, it's pretty bad at that and at HR tracking too, some days it will say I didn't sleep at all, when I did. But just a few days ago the start activity button stopped working again, and I had to reset it, but I was running with a group so I couldn't track the start of the run, but eventually started it and ran until the end, ended the run seen the distance I ran and selected the smiley face. Got home, sat down and looked at my watch, the time was showing 3am, when it was 10pm, sync it up to my phone, and noticed the run I just had wasn't synced, synced again and again and nothing, looked at Strava, nothing, looked at my watch the run was nowhere to be seen and what really worried me was I had a 10k race in 2 days (yesterday) it worked but it's still enough to make me look at the competition. Suuntos FAQ section actually knows this is a problem as it says if it happens, you should reset it and if that doesn't work then you need to factory reset it. I've had this watch for 6 months and it's already dramatically failed on me. I am considering the coros pace pro, I don't think I can go back to Garmin because the prices in comparison and I love the scroll dial, and coros has that. I did have a pace 3 for a bit but sold it as the screen was tiny for what I was used to and didn't like it, but the pace pro, is bigger, though plastic and that's also off putting lol so lots of research again before I choose a different watch. I'm just sad as suunto sold me until things stopped working correctly and more than once.

    I've been with Garmin for a decade now. I feel like it's time for a change, either Suunto or Polar. I wish that I could experiment with the apps, or that someone would do an ecosystem review, as I have only seen a couple and they're years old

      @@fitbody360 no you just have to remove the pin and take band off and put pin back in - it doesn't have it automatically built in. It's got the oversized pins that make it possible. Sorry I did a previous video on the 2X about how you convert it to quick fit

      @@fitgearhunter All good. Got it. So I shouldn't have expected it as an out of the box thing. I do like the quick fits though and have several before downgrading? upgrading? from my Fenix 6x. So I'll likely change the original out. Thanks for the clarification.

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter 3 дні тому

      @ yes totally and should have mentioned in the video! I just use a paper clip and there's literally a hole where you can see the pin and you insert a paper clip end and it comes right out. It's actually easier than the old school watch pins. Then just put the pin by itself back in and you can snap on any of your 6X bands

    I wouldn't buy Fenix 8 no matter the cost. I sleep with my watch and Fenix is just too bulky. FR965 is a perfect size for a tiny runner's wrist.

  • @chriscarpunky
    @chriscarpunky 3 дні тому

    I’ve had this for 2 weeks now. No bugs. Rare for a new Garmin. I can’t even feel the 45 mm amoled on my wrist. This is my favorite Garmin and I have lots of Garmin watches and returned the Fenix 8 as it didn’t feel good on my wrist and that was the 47mm. Seriously considering getting the I3 solar and wear it during the day and using the amoled for workouts. It would be expensive but $450 and $400 it’s still $300 cheaper than a Fenix 8 and you always have a back up watch and will never run out of battery. Plus, if something goes wrong with one of them you have a back up.

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter 3 дні тому

      @@chriscarpunky love this comment! Totally agree. It is super light, and if you do happen to get the MIP you'll be blown away at how brilliant it is, at least for a monochromatic more pixelated screen.

    It would be garmins best seller if it had maps in my opinion. They know that so they want you force you to the fenix 8. Get a fenix 7 while they’re on sale. I have a standard so sadly no flashlight or multi band but it works perfectly for me on tough summits and training perfectly. I paid the same as this watch for it on sale.

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter 4 дні тому

      @@dannydinthemountains yes completely can see that! Great points all around. It would definitely be a high seller if it had Maps! But I honestly also think it would have to be $600 like the 965, and on the flipside I think people would complain about that.Great points and thanks for sharing!

    If the Garmin Forerunner 955 is below this price point right now with the same sensor, is it the superior watch for weightlifting, running, and soccer?

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter 4 дні тому

      @@bootcastpod great question! I think no. For me the screen resolution of either the solar or the AMOLED variants are preferred over the 955. I personally kind of don't think the mapping looks good on the MMIP screen of the 955, so I don't find it as useful, and I don't use Music storage. No maps is a big deal, I know instincts hasn't had them but for a rugged outdoors orientated watch it seem absurd not to have maps. There are plenty of competitors that have maps on watches for way less than $450. Its an outdoors watch without maps, come on its 2025, it should have real maps.

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter 6 днів тому

      Yes completely see that. I still think about the 265 - mainly bc it didn't include maps and nobody said/felt anything - I feel the I3 is just the rugged alternative to the 265, so it didn't 'feel' missing to me - but I do think the I3 amoled should be $450 too - then it would make more sense. I do think Garmin's maps add a significant amount of storage size required, so just didn't feel I would see it on the I3 for that reason as well.

    • @exposureseries3747
      @exposureseries3747 6 днів тому

      @ looking at the stats the I3 doesn’t have the storage for maps. It’d require a revamp. So it puts Garmin in a tough spot. I think Garmin will have to add maps sooner than later in the instinct line up if they want to stay competitive at this price point.

    10:52 These reviews are super biased. Suunto doesn't have a track and field activity mode, you can't upload the shoes you used from the watch (right after finishing the activity), the heart rate reading is much worse, it doesn't have the mirror function to see the metrics of the current activity on the phone in real time, you can't share workouts with friends. That the Pace Pro is made of plastic is not necessarily a disadvantage, since thanks to that it is almost 20% lighter. It is a watch designed for runners. What you should say is, 'Since I'm not a runner and don't value the specific features of a device like the Pace Pro, I consider that for my particular use, the Suunto Race S offers a better deal.' That would be more appropriate.

    The Nylon do absorb water but on the flip side, they will actually dry. The silicone you basically have to take them off to dry the part that contacts your skin. The nylon bands breath and will fully dry out within 10-15 minutes in warm weather, no need to remove. They are actually better for dealing with moisture. They also have the ability to adjust to a perfect fit, there is no one hole is to loose and the other is too tight.

    Great video. I was hoping for an Instinct with AMOLED but the I3 is kinda disappointing. Maybe the Tactical version will convince me but at this point, I need a 30-40% price drop to make me buy one. The only disadvantage is see with no touchscreen is the fact that you can’t really use Komoot because you can’t move the map. Otherwise you would at least in the Venu 3 arena. So, I will keep my Epix Pro and won’t get an I3 as a second watch

    I don't know, call me a purist, but I think the Instinct series has its own identity and Garmin is deviating away from it with an AMOLED screen. The same goes for the maps. Instinct=breadcrumb maps. I think all the other improvements are great because they need to improve with the next generation of watches, but the look should cling to its original roots. Don't alter the DNA, Garmin. Great review.
