What I've noticed with some bands is that they use backing tracks(sequenced) rather than a keyboard player. I play keys in a band and I have had to learn a lot of songs by ear so it was refreshing to come across your channel where you broke down the keyboard part for Everybody's Working For The Weekend. Thanks for sharing, much appreciated.

This is absolutely true. What's weird to me is that they don't even try to pretend to have a keyboard player. You just hear this piano part coming from nowhere and everyone just accepts it. Anyway, great point, thanks for commenting and I'm glad my channel has been helpful for you!

I live on Long Island NY and there's def a shortage of keyboard players. I'm primarily a guitar player but I can also play keys (not as well as guitar though). In recent years I'm putting way more effort into being a better keys player so I can take advantage of the gig opportunities that are available. Playing keys isn't as glamorous as guitar but since I play in an 80s cover band I get a lot of great parts, hooks, etc. I enjoy keys as much as guitar these days.

Awesome that you are stretching out and covering some keys!

I agree with you - it seems fewer and fewer people getting into music in a gigging band situation are playing keys. In my area (central Mississippi) the keyboardist pool is pretty shallow. (Maybe they are all in worship bands…)

That's a good point about the worship bands. Lol I was a worship director for over 10 years but just couldn't keep doing that any more. I guess there's something to be said about being a big fish in a small pond...
