Great review, very interesting. Of course I think the main part of a cartridge system is the pivoting head that makes the shave easier, which is why I would say this is really a DE variant rather than a Hubrid, but the Leaf would be more of a hybrid razor as it uses the best of both worlds.
Great shave. I wouldn’t want the Quad razor because I’d rather have a DE razor that’s conventional and universal to utilize blades from any brand you like. Hi Ken, thanks for the video. The leaf was a true hybrid... This is just a cartridge razor disguised as a DE razor... But I guess it would work for those want to buy into this system.
It seems to do the same as a cartridge. Granted that each replacement part is a lot cheaper than a Gillette Fusion ProShield, and has less throwaway plastic, it is only a little less expensive than a Harry's cartridge or a Gillette SkinGuard. As a devotee of hysterisis, I cannot see how the extra cost of the handle, without a pivot, can be amortized against the savings on the cost of replacement parts (blades/cartridges/?). Now, if they made a triple-layer and made the head an omni-directional pivot, then they might have a good thing ...
Hey Ken. There is always someone out there trying to reinvent the wheel. It might be ok for the newbey. The older wet shavers are to tough to get to change. Wilkinson seems to have always been late to the party trying to convert shavers to their razors. Same goes with Shock. Nice shave today.
Thanks for the review. To me this really seems like something they put together to defend some market share from the Leaf, and throw in their proprietary (higher profit) blades. Seems like an alright product, but I'm not convinced this product provides something shavers can't get elsewhere. They'll have to try harder.
Interesting - still has plastic.....although a much smaller amount than a cartridge razor. The cap shape reminded me of an old Darwin razor. Will be interesting to see if this razor takes off or evolves.
I'm glad you did this one Ken , I own and really like this razor,, When I bought mine I was able to buy the a 5 pack of Razors on Amazon as well. I'm still looking for a good razor that I can use with all my regular DE blades, The last razor I bought was QShave's copy cat version of the merkur Futur and the head geometry is awful just like the real Merkur Futur. So for now I'll keep using this razor that most people seem to be sleeping on. Glad you gave it a fair shot and can talk about it,. Who knows maybe they will make an adapter or maybe another company will come out with one if the demand is there.
This reminds me of the “Schick double 2” cartridge safety razor it looks like a trac 2 cartridge razor with two sides witch is basically this but you put the blades in this Wilkinson razor instead the old Schick Double 2 took a cartridge that’s very interesting feels like the old idea came back. I would like it more if you could add double edge blades in this Wilkinson razor handle that would be awesome I don’t like that it takes proprietary blades that are expensive. Thanks again Vic
Hi Ken, another great review - but i will stay with my DE razors ;) This razor it's not my cup of tea, but as you mentioned may be the next step for someone who has used system razors so far. Greetings from Poland ;)
Looks ok to me, would love to try, but not available to purchase here in the UK, spoke to WS and it looks like it won’t be coming out here, take care. Cheers😷🥃
Very interesting razor Ken and you're 100% on the mark that there should be some way of being able to use regular DE blades through an adapter system of some description (if Wilkinson folks see this please note).
I don't think this will capture my interests since I switched to DE safety razors, Ken. But I'm wondering about these proprietary blades... could they have been manufactured so you can take them on flights when you travel? I understand they do not allow the DE blades on flights but do allow disposable cartridge razors.
Thanks for showing us new products. I'll stick to my DE razors though, much cheaper for the long term. Hey, isn't it about time for another pinball video? 🙂
I was going to try to buy one try to and maybe just add to the collection but it doesn't look like I can order it as I'm not in the US and it's not showing up on the Schick Canada site.
Does the (synthetic) Kensurfs 2020 Limited Edition brush have a lot of backbone like a boar or is it somewhere between boar and badger? I like the shorter fluted handle, but want something with more backbone/scritch that will hold up to a bit more splaying to raise the hair-my AoS badger brush is taking a beating, and the handle on my synthetic is a bit large to work with. Suggestions?
I was just looking at this shaver on Amazon and they have the refills for $6.30 for five blades. If this shaver doesn't catch on and they quit making it, it should be a great collectors item.
Excellent review Ken. Interesting razor. But I can't see where Wilkinson Sword are trying to go with this. The plastic element is quite an issue these days
If Wilkinson is owned by Schick, how does Gillet produce the Wilkinson Sword DE blades? I did order the saloon pack on Amazon, based on your videos, and it’s a great blade.
Hydguy the blade factories in Europe and India have remained open, because DE blades are still very popular there. They must be something in the name recognition
Hello Kensurfs, love your reviews/videos, Sir. This seems like a deliberate attempt by Wilkinson Sword to compete with the Leaf razor, (which oddly resembles a cartridge razor fused with a slingshot). I use Wilkinson Sword blades regularly, so I will refrain from judgmental thinking. The folks at West Coast Shaving might be pissed though, because it DOES resemble their Lithe razor head.
My neck is almost exactly opposite of what you'd expect, it grows straight up in the front, then feathers back about 15 degrees towards the ears. You have to map your face! Took me 20 years of nicks to get wise.
An interesting concept. It’s certainly a futuristic looking razor. I can’t see them adapting it to being able to take a snapped DE blade. That’s the way they will make money. I’ll definitely pick it up if it gets released in the UK. Nice video and thoughts Ken good man 🇬🇧 🇺🇸
Ken, Just returned to wet shaving about 4 months ago. Using the Merkur 34c and Merkur blades. But I'm looking for a better blade to use. What would you suggest?
To me this razor is not a hybrid, but a variation on the high plastic cartridge/packaging theme and this is direct competition to carts not DE shaving. To me a multiple blade hybrid that uses environment friendly DE blades is the Leaf razor or the 4 Edge Razolution (also marketing in Australia by Wahl as the 4 Edge Razor) made in Germany.
you should review the razolution 4-edge safety razor. It is similar to this but it uses 2 double edge blades. I am very interested in it but I haven't found any reviews.
Thanks for the review Ken :) However, I think I speak for many people when I say I'll rather stick to and support companies with all-metal blade and razor designs including paper/cardboard packaging to keep the environment and sustainability in mind.
Another great shave Ken. Have you used it more? Wondering how many shaves you get from a blade? If I knew about this sooner- I def would have tried it before getting so deep into DE recently. I basically like multi blade systems - but despise the pivoting heads and have been getting annoyed that cartridge prices were rising locally. I think if you look again it works out to about $1.20/blade (5 for $6 or 15 for $18) - still not bad if they last like cartridges. But I'm sure they'll stick to proprietary blades (as a business decision). It's good the handle isn't super expensive as the system probably isn’t here to stay. But given that it's still probably way too much. Thanks for taking another one for the team Ken. FWIW I wouldn't count on TSA letting you take it on board- it looks too much like a DE. Cheers
You are spot on, a great transitional razor to get people off carts. I will stick to my DE but a very interesting razor. Please check out the new SNMIRN baby Futur. Lovely adjustable razor that is silly cheap
The Thing. Great movie. I watched the classic Salem’s Lot staring David Soul this past weekend. While watching i found myself wondering what they shaved with back then....1979 I think. Do you ever do that while watching old films? The quad is not for me.
Awesome video, Ken! A buddy told me about this razor on Amazon so I had to buy it. It's an interesting crossover hybrid beast. Very solid. Had a good feel. I don't think this will appeal to the purists but would be a good introduction for a noobie. I'll definitely use mine again.
Today I just shaved with my WS Quad Blade Razor for the first time ever. It was a pretty darn good shave on my two day beard growth. I’m still not a fan of proprietary blades. I won’t be buying any additional blades.
The proprietary blades kill it for me, especially given that it contains plastic. It might as well be a cartridge. That’s the beauty of the Leaf, which I use every day (on my head). The quad is a no go but at least you got a great shave! Stay safe!
It's certainly an interesting concept. The proprietary blades are a big no no for me I'm afraid. If it was possible to use two stacked de blades, this might be a winner and worth investing in. Many thanks for the review Ken. It's always worth trying these things out, just in case they do work. Afterall the Leaf razor is a good compromise between a cartridge and a de razor. All the best 👍👍👍👍🏴
I was the one who asked if you can do a review on this razor. Thank you so much for making this video Ken! I think I'm gonna pass on this one. I'm all about the traditional DE razor.
Yes......I think we all are. I think Wilkinson's should make a quality razor that traditionalists like us would like to have in our collection. Edwin Jagger stepped up their game with a traditional but beautifully designed and engineered razor with the 3one6. I think that not being able to take the various DE blades we all love to try out in our razors will put people off buying it. Dave.
@@davesheppard8797 indeed. That's part of the reason why I'm not getting it. Btw, I didn't know about the 3one6. thanks for that. It is a beautiful razor. I just noticed that Ken did a video on it. When Ken does a video on a perticuler razor it's a must watch.
@@rezskywalker2155 yes, it certainly is! I love my all stainless 3one6. With a Super shave X blade in it, I get a great shave. Only blade I have tried so far but I will try all my other blades too! Dave.
Great review Ken, certainly looks like a decent made razor. I'd be surprised if an adaptor would be made available, I think this product is to lever more cash out of the DE market via the proprietory blades. Inexpensive blades are a key feature of the DE market. Other thing I don't like are the plastic insert & fussy individual plastic case. Won't be buying one.
Its a good idea went bad. My bet is that Marketing got involved. Some engineer probably figured out a way to set 2 DE razor blades (3 piece razor, cap, mid plate, handle and bottom plate), marketing stepped in and went, "But lets make it proprietary." I would have bought the non-proprietary blade version, not so this one.
Is it heavier than the King C. Gillette razor? "What the first blade misses, the second blade catches." This was the whole idea behind Gillette's TRAC II razor system so that it would get you to buy more cartridges and this led the expensive multi-blade monstrosities we have now.
Why could they not just design a nice new DE? That would sell to DE enthusiasts. This was dreamed up by a marketing department in response to a poorly run focus group full of people who shouldn't have been there in the first place. Still, thanks for checking it out on our behalf...at least they sold one!
Isn't this just a spin off from the vintage Personna Double II?? Thanks for reviewing this razor. I had heard about this razor several months ago. Don't know if I will invest or not. Thanks again!
Nothing to do for me. The design is very attractive but that razor here in Canada cost $29.99 and three pack refill $17.97... I will stay for sure attached to my RazoRock GameChanger .84 for ever!
I’m so in love with Proraso sensitive pre-shave, that I start every shave with it. I feel the same way about alum just afterward, and I only discovered that recently. This razor doesn’t make any sense to me.
Eh...to me that is a cartridge razor made to look like a safety razor. There is still multi blade held together by a cartridge and it’s proprietary. It only differs from standard cartridge razor in appearance.
I'm confused with the Wilkinson website. It states in bold type "Quad Blade refill - 3 pack", then in small print it states "15ct" qty 1, price $17.97. The numbers don't make sense. 3 pack, 15ct? If its 18 bucks for 3 blades, that's really terrible. Is it 3 - 5 packs? If so why does it state qty 1? Not a very clear order. Shame they didn't make the razor fit both the quad blades and a DE blade. That would be a big deal! Thanks for the show n tell! Be well, Ken.
I think Wilkinson is trying to re-invent the DE Wheel, the blade and handle are proprietary, that's a minus. The blades are expensive, 90 cents a blade or .45 each - too high If the center plastic were able to take 2 DE's of any maker I'd be more inclined to use it. It looks neat but it's a novelty, what if it doesn't catch on and fails?
Great Review ken...I believe I was the first to ask for a review of this razor, interesting review the head somewhat looks like the Wcs "lithe"head and the proprietary blade seems to be a bit of a dissapointment, personally I still prefer De razors and blades...thanks for the awesome review stay safe...from South Africa 🇿🇦

👍💈💈
This reminds me of the “Schick double 2” cartridge safety razor it looks like a trac 2 cartridge razor with two sides witch is basically this but you put the blades in this Wilkinson razor instead the old Schick Double 2 took a cartridge that’s very interesting feels like the old idea came back. I would like it more if you could add double edge blades in this Wilkinson razor handle that would be awesome I don’t like that it takes proprietary blades that are expensive.
Thanks again
Vic
Hi Ken, another great review - but i will stay with my DE razors ;) This razor it's not my cup of tea, but as you mentioned may be the next step for someone who has used system razors so far. Greetings from Poland ;)
Xavier Xanax thank you
Looks ok to me, would love to try, but not available to purchase here in the UK, spoke to WS and it looks like it won’t be coming out here, take care.
Cheers😷🥃

Very interesting razor Ken and you're 100% on the mark that there should be some way of being able to use regular DE blades through an adapter system of some description (if Wilkinson folks see this please note).
👍👍💈💈
I bet this wouldn't be bad for those of us who can't use a DE razor. Not sure if I would want to give up my Defender razor for it though.
Joey Crysel 👍👍👍👍
Great shave Ken, and very interesting razor! 😲👍🏼
SoCal Shave thanks Manny
Yes Ken the shipping kills most deals for me or I would give it a go.
👍👍💈💈
I don't think this will capture my interests since I switched to DE safety razors, Ken. But I'm wondering about these proprietary blades... could they have been manufactured so you can take them on flights when you travel? I understand they do not allow the DE blades on flights but do allow disposable cartridge razors.
Sam6175 I’m not sure, but it seems more like a cartridge so they might allow them on a flight
I saw that razor on Amazon and thought it looked like a neat idea. I agree an adapter would be cool.
👍👍
Thanks for showing us new products. I'll stick to my DE razors though, much cheaper for the long term. Hey, isn't it about time for another pinball video? 🙂
HornetFlyer my brother bought 3 new machines but the COVID-19 kept me from hanging out with him and filming

Anton Komatz To me, the Badger seems to have more backbone than the same synthetic.
I was just looking at this shaver on Amazon and they have the refills for $6.30 for five blades. If this shaver doesn't catch on and they quit making it, it should be a great collectors item.
There's a thought, could be the only reason to buy one!
👍👍
Excellent review Ken. Interesting razor. But I can't see where Wilkinson Sword are trying to go with this. The plastic element is quite an issue these
days

@Kensurfs Here's the replacement blades link: Wilkinson Sword Quad Blade Razor Blades Refills, 5 Count www.amazon.com/dp/B087DNNPF9/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_fab_NBoFFb2HQKX7A
Thank you👍👍How have you been?
@@kensurfs I'm doing well, Sir! Been teleworking and surviving. I need to get active again. LOL Hope you and the family are doing well!
I recently got an inexpensive DE Wilkinson razor which I like.
👍👍
If Wilkinson is owned by Schick, how does Gillet produce the Wilkinson Sword DE blades?
I did order the saloon pack on Amazon, based on your videos, and it’s a great blade.
Hydguy the blade factories in Europe and India have remained open, because DE blades are still very popular there. They must be something in the name recognition
The razor looks very futuristic.
👍👍

Tim Dexter 👍👍💈💈
The Leaf Razor is the deal for someone looking for a cartridge experience with DE blades. Highly recommended.
An interesting concept. It’s certainly a futuristic looking razor. I can’t see them adapting it to being able to take a snapped DE blade. That’s the way they will make money. I’ll definitely pick it up if it gets released in the UK. Nice video and thoughts Ken good man 🇬🇧 🇺🇸
Thanks👍👍💈
Ken,
Just returned to wet shaving about 4 months ago. Using the Merkur 34c and Merkur blades. But I'm looking for a better blade to use. What would you suggest?
Wilkinson Sword Gillette’s or Voskhod
To me this razor is not a hybrid, but a variation on the high plastic cartridge/packaging theme and this is direct competition to carts not DE shaving. To me a multiple blade hybrid that uses environment friendly DE blades is the Leaf razor or the 4 Edge Razolution (also marketing in Australia by Wahl as the 4 Edge Razor) made in Germany.
JustUncleL 👍👍👍
Great video Ken. I prefer a regular shave with my Feather or Fatboy razor. Too bad they over thought this razor.
Great video... Have you tried the Saiver Rapira? Russian... "Quad" blade.. with DE razors.
Shawn G**** not yet👍👍
you should review the razolution 4-edge safety razor. It is similar to this but it uses 2 double edge blades. I am very interested in it but I haven't found any reviews.
I'll check it out💈👍
Nice shave Ken 👌. Great review 👍
Have a great week.
Very best regards Gordon.
👍👍💈💈
Thanks for the review Ken :)
However, I think I speak for many people when I say I'll rather stick to and support companies with all-metal blade and razor designs including paper/cardboard packaging to keep the environment and sustainability in mind.
👍👍💈💈

Hoolapoppa 👍👍
HI KEN my only concern is the non standard blades, what is the level of aggression of the razor? Cheers!
👍👍
It seemed very mild

Stay safe!
williamcass68 Thanks, Stay Safe
Always better to add water as needed rather than starting with too wet of a brush. 🙂
Go Habs I agree
Thanks for showing-off this new razor 👍🏻.
Thank you
It's certainly an interesting concept.
👍👍
Good Morning Ken, have a question for you. Have you ever used a shavette? If so what are your thoughts? TIA
Bill Duke I have not used one yet
I was the one who asked if you can do a review on this razor. Thank you so much for making this video Ken! I think I'm gonna pass on this one. I'm all about the traditional DE razor.
Rez Skywalker 👍💈💈
👍💈
That looks cool where did you Buy That Because I want to buy That
Its a good idea went bad.
My bet is that Marketing got involved.
Some engineer probably figured out a way to set 2 DE razor blades (3 piece razor, cap, mid plate, handle and bottom plate), marketing stepped in and went, "But lets make it proprietary."
I would have bought the non-proprietary blade version, not so this one.
💈💈
not for me unless the blades get cheaper.. how about a review of the fatip lo storto ?
I’ll look
Is it heavier than the King C. Gillette razor?
"What the first blade misses, the second blade catches." This was the whole idea behind Gillette's TRAC II razor system so that it would get you to buy more cartridges and this led the expensive multi-blade monstrosities we have now.
Why could they not just design a nice new DE? That would sell to DE enthusiasts. This was dreamed up by a marketing department in response to a poorly run focus group full of people who shouldn't have been there in the first place. Still, thanks for checking it out on our behalf...at least they sold one!
👍👍
Isn't this just a spin off from the vintage Personna Double II?? Thanks for reviewing this razor. I had heard about this razor several months ago. Don't know if I will invest or not. Thanks again!
Jim G. Thanks Jim
I'm sure someone could print an adapter to use de blades.

Where did you get those glass shelves behind you? I’m looking for something just like that for my colognes and grooming products.
I got them at IKEA
Awesome! Ill go check them out! Love the vids my friend.
Nothing to do for me. The design is very attractive but that razor here in Canada cost $29.99 and three pack refill $17.97... I will stay for sure attached to my RazoRock GameChanger .84 for ever!
👍👍💈💈
I’m so in love with Proraso sensitive pre-shave, that I start every shave with it. I feel the same way about alum just afterward, and I only discovered that recently. This razor doesn’t make any sense to me.
Amazon has the blades at $6.30/5
Orochi Yagami 👍👍💈
Eh...to me that is a cartridge razor made to look like a safety razor. There is still multi blade held together by a cartridge and it’s proprietary. It only differs from standard cartridge razor in appearance.
👍👍
I'm confused with the Wilkinson website. It states in bold type "Quad Blade refill - 3 pack", then in small print it states "15ct" qty 1, price $17.97. The numbers don't make sense. 3 pack, 15ct? If its 18 bucks for 3 blades, that's really terrible. Is it 3 - 5 packs? If so why does it state qty 1? Not a very clear order.
Shame they didn't make the razor fit both the quad blades and a DE blade. That would be a big deal! Thanks for the show n tell! Be well, Ken.
J. R. 👍👍💈💈
A better solution is the Saiver T-razor which is the same concept but uses regular DE blades. Plus it's much cheaper.!
Duncan Wynn Jr 💈💈
I only seen you put one blade in there. How does it have 4 edges?
Edit: Ohhhhh gotcha I went back and seen it
👍👍
Hi Ken Love the look on your face after you apply the alcohol base after shave! Do you ever use an alum block after a shave?
Dave Reed I do you alum block👍💈
I think Wilkinson is trying to re-invent the DE Wheel, the blade and handle are proprietary, that's a minus.
The blades are expensive, 90 cents a blade or .45 each - too high
If the center plastic were able to take 2 DE's of any maker I'd be more inclined to use it.
It looks neat but it's a novelty, what if it doesn't catch on and fails?
👍👍
Great Review ken...I believe I was the first to ask for a review of this razor, interesting review the head somewhat looks like the Wcs "lithe"head and the proprietary blade seems to be a bit of a dissapointment, personally I still prefer De razors and blades...thanks for the awesome review stay safe...from South Africa 🇿🇦
👍👍
Thanks for the review Ken. But, seems like the answer to a question nobody asked. I'll stick to de razors!
