Cool idea. I know all about that starter switch. If you don't get it back in the right place on top of the steering column, it won't start. Lol. But I like what you're doing there.
Haha! Yeah. Can cause all kinds of issues
If I get another YJ or TJ I would do this. Great video.
You should! 👍
Jeep used a GM ignition switch just like that in '93 Cherokees at minimum and we had to replace ours every two to three years because of heat generatd during key to start operation. Correct positioning of switch during replacement is necessary as the guy below mentions.
Great job my friend.
Thanks!
According to the OEM wiring manual the orange goes to 25 amp fuse that power the AC and heater blower. Good luck.
Reading the wiring diagrams from the FSM for a 93 YJ (which should apply for 91-95) the Orange wire is labeled on page 8W-70 as A22. Going back to page 8W-63 it shows that A22 from the ignition switch powers the Rear Wiper on V23, Heater and Air Conditioning on C1, and ABS on F15.
All that to say, all very unrelated to what you intended to accomplish so ignoring it was the correct path.
Sweet! Thanks for the info.
Look at the pin numbers. Don't count on the colors being the same for each year of the YJ. Anyways I use the FSM wiring diagrams and they're very helpful. I've fixed quit a few electrical issues including a brake light problem I traced backed to the steering column.
It's a GM style switch, same as what is on my 71 el- camino.. and many others...
Sounds like a pretty common part. Any idea about that orange wire?
Good video sir. Seems it’s still empty the front front bumper, we would like to send a set of pod lights for doing a product review. Perhaps with our lights mounted, your jeep will look more unique.
Is there a wire that goes to the alternator?
Love the panel. Why would you have a switch for fuel pump if the key will give it power?
I tried to mimic the original key sequence as best as I could. First click of key turns on accessories, radio. Second click of key is fuel pump and gauges…
My jeep had a mechanical maintenance timer... could the extra black/orange wire have been for your maintenance minder?
Maybe. I couldn’t find a source. But didn’t look super hard. Haha
Thermal detonator? Sea diff cultures around it? I'm lost.... lol
Scary how easy it is…I have no idea what I’m doing but give me a hammer/screwdriver and I can start any TJ/YJ in under 30secs
Scary
