Super cool man. I was going through some of your old so you want to join the army series videos for a little motivation, and it's crazy how far you've come as a UA-cam speaker. You went from being pretty rambly, quiet, maybe a little uncomfortable to a total natural in front of the camera, well spoken, clear and concise. Anyways man keep it up, hearing about the officer side of things is a super fresh perspective from you military vloggers, and super interesting. Thanks for all your content and all you do.

I definitely still have some room for improvement but thank you! That means a lot to me and yes there aren't as many "Officer" military UA-camrs and since I have been both enlisted and an officer now I think that gives me a cool perspective.

I started as an enlisted man in the USAF in 1972. Put my time in and moved on the the Army Reserves and was Commissioned in 1988. I'm now 65 and willing to go back as a surgical nurse if they need me for the national emergency. I will need slightly larger uniforms though. Army strong! Salute!

Remember the movie 12 O'Clock High with Gregory Peck? Dean Jagger played a World War I officer who was recalled in World War II. He was too old for combat so they made him the S-1 (Admin Officer) for a B-17 Bomber Group. That would be me next World War!

As a former vet who also had a Signal MOS and who also has TWO Signal officers in my first unit who were both prior enlisted E-5's and E-6 I found i respected them much more then the younger LT's i experienced in the regular Army. One was a 1stLT and the other was a new 2ndLT. I found that alot of ROTC or Westpoint 2nd LT try to hard at first which is understandable but i'm sure they are told to listen to there senior NCO's for advice and so on but i guess pride gets in a way at times. ( Who knows) For a few months i worked in a basement room that had a bank vault door literately. We worked doing Comsec ( Communications/Security) Dealing with Secret messages and so forth and it was just me (Spec/4) 1 (Pfc) and one 1st LT The other 2nd LT was new and just with us for a short time until he was reassigned. But in that close environment my LT was very open and cool with us. ( As you know officers and Nco's God forbid they act like your buddy for a moment with subordinates) He would always tell me how Westpointers always looked down on ROTC AND OCS officers.Even back then i understand there point but found it childish and still do. I hope in a Reserve unit you don't experience that bullshit Matt. Yes i don't know you except by U-Tube but the best officers i knew and respected was by there actions and how they presented themselves to there men. You have a great future as an officer with your Confidence and i feel you are a take charge kind of person. Soldiers gravitate and easily respect and follow officers with those qualities. We always say just because you wear NCO stripes or have brass on your uniform it doesn't make that person a leader of men or women. They have to prove themselves over time. I seen to many NCO's and some officers who were terrible and one of my Company Commanders failed an IG inspection and had other issues and was replaced. Never seen that before or since. That guy (CPT) was not meant to be and he had a shitty way of presenting himself. Bottom line LT Matt Ward your future looks bright i would follow you if i was 25 years younger :)

@@justinharris6898 I just went to college straight out of high school and did ROTC there for my 4 years I spent there. At the end, you commission as an officer but you compete for active duty. Whereas reserves is pretty guaranteed bc of all the cadets that want to go active from the jump.

Hey Matt! You've talked in the past about attending church services while in BMT, but I am curious about the flexibility of duty weekends/weeks. I am going through the process of enlisting in the Air Force Reserve, so I know it might be a little different from your experience. Are soldiers/airmen somewhat expected to forego church on their duty weekends?

p.s. I failed P.T. That's why I am not going into the reserves officer.
p.p.s. I have no military experience.
p.p.s. Should I wait to pass basic training for reserves officer or just do enlisted.

I have a chance to go college rn, since I was offered money for college, but I really wanted to leave to the military as soon as possible, I wanted to go into the mechanical side of the army (wheeled, track, or avionic), soo would it be better to have a some kind of degree or certification, before I join to do that stuff? Or join then go to college for that stuff.

I was enlisted, in many aspects with my experience is that it's gotten soft over the years. Also a double standard, as to female's. Such as we has a female miss a convoy in Afghanistan because she was "busy" with a British soldier. No reprimand, didn't get into any trouble period.
