I remember the profound sense of humility knowing that the NCOs in my company had so much more experience and knowledge, yet I was appointed over them. I listened and learned.
I was never in the military but grew up near a couple huge bases so I learned alot from veterans growing up, and some of the best advice I ever learned was "lieutenants always need to listen to their sergeants". It carried over into my career since at my last job I was basically a middle manager/specialist but the people who were "under" me were more experienced then I was. Experience trumps rank any day in my book.

Btw I really like your final quote about not living the same life 75-80-85-90 times and calling it a life. That is a motivating drive to aspire to be as big and best as you can be.
You remind me of our XO when I was going through AIT at Ft Eustis. He would try to sneak past w/o anyone calling attention. It became a game. Then one day I was told to report to the XO after class. What did I do wrong? Nothing, we talked for a while then he said that the Army wanted me to go to West Point. I declined as that type of formal education doesn’t fit me. My next duty station was 1st Cavalry Division. Aviation, so our unit was about half officers, most Warrant Officers. Congratulations to you on becoming an officer. I wish you well.
Congratulations Dominic! Seen you evole through your journey ,Good job man! I'm enlisted rn, going through same officers program; see you on the field sometine!

Thanks for the video. I really like your comment about the being an officer is through respect not through rank. Can you tell me little more on how competitive is branching for Quartermaster? Thanks.
Use the word "basically" if you intend to convey what it actually means, and not as a filler. Don't ever use it during a serious briefing to higher-ups. They'll think you're still a kid.
Hey Dom - I have a question for you that is burning me. I have been trying to decide between commissioning into the Army or the Air Force. I'm toward Air Force due to lifestyle and job choices and leaning toward Army for the culture and loan repayment. My main concern is what the Army recruiters have been telling me. They are basically saying that if I choose to commission, I will have no idea what my job field will be in or even the commitment time I will have until AFTER I've committed. The Air Force allows me to apply to specific officer positions and go that way. Is what the Army recruiters telling me true - do you really go into commissioning completely blind? It sounds kind of crazy.
I'm not sure if you've ever heard of Nick Bare, but he's a fitness youtuber, recently got out of the Army as an infantry PL. Great guy, runs a supplement company now, and puts on amazing content. His channel name is Nick Bare, you should def check him out!
Welcome to the club. You will never get permissive TDY if you show face at your unit while going through in-processing. PLEASE let others know - Your origin station should have approved permissive TDY on your DA 31. It needs to be signed off by an O-5 IIRC, but those are easy to find at schoolhouses. Once you reach your destination with your preapproved DA31, report to housing. They will stamp it. Easy 10 days to "house hunt." Learning the bureaucracy is your job.
Excellent experience to see how someone progresses step by step through their military training and career. Thank you kidthundr for being an excellent host. Hopefully we'll see you progress as an officer. I, regretfully, envy what you are living. Unfortunately, Instead of choosing your career path I choose law enforcement (Border Patrol). Now, I am 35 and living "the same year, every year".
I know some guys in border patrol, that love it! Dont look down man , you are on that path for a reason I actually envy you also. I got picked up for customs and border patrol before I left but in the end decided on the ARMY I wish I would have got that experience, stay up bro.
I would love to join the military but unfortunately i'm half deaf so i'm automatically disqualified. I have been watching your vids and you have given a lot of military knowledge as well as inspiration to not give up on trying to join. I am trying to join the navy as a non-combatant unit hoping that I can find a crack to squeeze through. Thanks and great job.
Welcome to the Army! Dope video very insightful. Wish I would’ve started UA-cam so much earlier in my life 😩 so I could’ve mad a similar video once I commissioned. Anyway new subbie!! Glad to see another Army LT doing YT!!
Thank you Leslie, haha I remember. When I first got to Lee, trying to get you to "notice" me on your Instagram. Lol funny how you found my YT thanks for the support! I have probably seen all your vids. Have a good one!
Congratulation on all your achievments sir and thank you for your service. I'm in college right now and thinking about joining rotc and becoming an officer that way, I was wondering if I could emial you to talk about it.
So what exactly is your purpose as an officer? And how does your purpose change as you rise in ranks. I’m thinking about going to college for mechanical engineering so I can use that hopefully in the Air Force and for my love of building things and working on cars after the Air Force (Air Force maybe). But I want to go to Syracuse university, but that college is incredibly expensive and want to use a scholarship to gain a free education. I figure if I decide I enjoy work in the Air Force (which it seems like work I’d enjoy) I might stay rather than working for the minimum required time. Also, if I’m not making sense it’s because no one in my family besides my uncle who I haven’t spoken to in a while was the only one in my family to enlist in the modern military so I don’t know how anything goes or any codes to anything. I’m basically starting a brand new career path my entire family has never entered before
I know it's been years but congrats brother. I'm a US Army Veteran now I was in from 2005 until 2017. I left as a Staff sergeant I miss it but at the same time not so much 😂. Hey, thanks for the video. Are you on active duty? I'm seriously considering Quartermaster active duty upon commissioning. How is the BOLC and how is Quartermaster on active duty?
Everyone wants the LT to be humble but the people requesting humility are wanting of the same humility. The army made the rules. Not LTs. Its envy and jealousy that compels enlisted personnel to be enthralled with animosity toward an innocent LT. A degree means you are capable of learning exotic and large amounts of knowledge in short periods of time. It means, in general, your open minded. Can you say that about yourself as an enlisted member? A degree means you have the potential to communicate well. Communication wins wars. I dont remember meeting drill sergeants who were exceptional communicators. It was mostly, " figure it out!" or " ask your battle buddy" who doesn't know anymore than you. Privates and sergeants alike don't usually seem like critical thinkers or humble enough to admit they were WRONG.
Do new OCS grads usually get time off from the day they graduate to when they're supposed to report for duty? Essentially, do new 2L's get time off after they graduate to go visit family and then come back?
Please Sir. I have bachelor degree in marketing. As a green card holder, can I join the US military with the marketing degree? If yes, will I be going through the enlisting or straight to officer?
How much math is required for quartermaster officer? Or will everything be taught to you that you need to know? Graduating college soon but not great at math
What's up Dominic. I recently made it past the battalion board and was recommended to the usarec board. I have a 3.2 GPA , 117gt score, maxed the opat, and had a good interview. Prior work experience as a manager and I put together a strong packet. Do you think I have a chance of making it through. I hear its very competitive
How did you enter as an Officer? I have a college degree, but for some reason my recruiter won’t sign me up for OCS. But I’ll go in as an E-4 in enlisted.
So I'm considering going a similar route as you. I'm a female and interested in going to Med school either while in the military or after. There are so many pros and cons between the army vs marines but I'm really drawn to the Marines. Sure i could go to med school in the army and be an army doc, but it's something about the Marines that's more appealing as far as the medical route. It'll take me LONGER to reach my goal but i think going the Marines route may be worth it in the long run. Do you have any advice regarding that or do you know anybody who has gone to the Marines and then med school after serving their 4 years?
I dont know anyone personally , however I do know that if you decide to go to Med school make sure you have time to study for the MCAT! Look into the military's medschool in Bethesda!
I went to West Point for 4 years, got accepted to Med School in my senior year and did the HPSP scholarship in the Army directly after graduating USMA. Long story short, I didn't have a strong medical background prior to med school and struggled A LOT throughout my 3 years in medical school (really 4 years though because I needed to repeat a year). Over time, I realized medical school was not for me and I chose to resign from school and go back to the army as a fresh 2LT. In hindsight, if your top priority is to be a DOCTOR in the Army, the best route you can take is to go to a civilian school for undergrad with a strong pre-med program, accept an HPSP scholarship for medical school around the time you're applying for school, and after completion of med school you will serve in the military as a physician (To be honest, there is very little difference in physicians commissioned in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, etc they're all essentially doing the same job). Personally, I felt that the Army and Medical School were two entirely different beasts, and in my experience training in medical school at Army hospitals, the culture of military medicine is COMPLETELY different than the basic Army. It really takes a special person who can succeed in both environments. I don't regret going the route I did - I really enjoyed West Point and I learned in medical school about what I don't want to do in life, but its definitely worth taking a hard look at that before you make a decision. Feel free to message or email me if you have other questions
The marine corps does not have its own medical corps. They use the navy's. For instance, my father was a marine and I have always loved the marine corps. But I am in nursing school now and want to be a military nurse when I graduate. If I do that I will probably choose navy nurse corps. They still serve with the marines but I'd still be a naval officer first. So if you want to go medical route, I'd say join the navy.
ok so I'm going in for Aircraft E&E , leaving april 3rd for BMT, and lets say my long term goal is to be an officer. when i get my bachelors, go through OTS ok now I'm an officer. how will my career in Aircraft E&E that at this point I've probably been working in for a couple years, change. do you stay within your career field or how does your role and life within the USAF change once you become an officer?
I’m thinking about trying out for Ocs after I get my bachelors in zoology. But from what I hear you have to do a lot to prepare: can you give me any idea of what that would entail?

Hey sir question do you think my enlisted time as a 92F ( fueler) would help as a quartermaster officer because I was thinking of finishing my degree and contract then reenlisting for ocs maybe ?
i know im already late but do 2nd lieutenant really just take care of soldier/lead them to combat ? i mean is there any other job/mos for a lieutenant?
As a civillian or in civillian clothes on base ? Just walk by normally if your a civillian officers are people to they wont yell at you for saying good morning or whatever
Do you mind if I email you with a few questions sir? I have a BA degree but I chose the enlisted route first and now I'm about to start on my packet but I have a few questions.
Is OCS super hard? How fast do i have to run i'm in AIT right now so i don't have time to watch past videos as i've been gone the last few months but started since day 1 ocs
Hi. I enlisted the army as e4 and I will be shipped to basic training for 10 weeks and after that, my recruiter told me I would go to officer school candidate for 12 weeks then after graduating i will becoming 2nd lt?
I remember the profound sense of humility knowing that the NCOs in my company had so much more experience and knowledge, yet I was appointed over them. I listened and learned.

Yes you have a chance.
I just got a scholarship to the royal Sandhurst military academy to get a commission to the British army i'm so exited
Goooooooood luck
Did you ever enlist or went directly to ocs?
Whats your email? I would love to ask you some questions about the army and becoming a 2nd lietuenant
Congratulations bro
Thanks bro
Have you done a different types of Officers in the army video yet. That would be cool
different types as in branches?
How did you enter as an Officer? I have a college degree, but for some reason my recruiter won’t sign me up for OCS.
But I’ll go in as an E-4 in enlisted.
Try talking to a different recruiter. I know nothing, but to me that doesn't sound right.
What military branch are you in?
I am not in the Air force. I do not know.
I’m thinking about trying out for Ocs after I get my bachelors in zoology. But from what I hear you have to do a lot to prepare: can you give me any idea of what that would entail?
Prepare for OCS , Just get in good PT shape and be ready to commit.
Nice video is the asvab 21 still?

Hey sir question do you think my enlisted time as a 92F ( fueler) would help as a quartermaster officer because I was thinking of finishing my degree and contract then reenlisting for ocs maybe ?
Yes it will.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
do they have barracks for the BOLC or do they just give you BAH?
Officers dont live in barracks.

Are there any bonus for people that go in as officers?
Unfortunately no, but there used to be
Do you mind if I email you with a few questions sir? I have a BA degree but I chose the enlisted route first and now I'm about to start on my packet but I have a few questions.

Pretty sure I spoke to you on IG
How did you become an officer, like what was your plan
Hello, are you able to give me some insight on going to my unit as a quartermaster officer
Also about BOLC, I commission May7th and report to BOLC July31
How competitive is infantry?
Depends on commissioning source and class.
What’s you role as a officer on base
Is OCS super hard? How fast do i have to run i'm in AIT right now so i don't have time to watch past videos as i've been gone the last few months but started since day 1 ocs
