- Join me for a ride on this "dual threat trail," the Columbia Canal Path. It has serenity and beauty...but also a rich history. We'll take a look at the adjoining Broad River Trail as well. So travel with me to Riverfront Park in Columbia, South Carolina this week.

Alabama grad here, my wife and I are considering movie to Columbia for many reasons but the riverwalk system is up there at the top. Thank you for the videos!
Roll Tide! I was raised in Eufaula and Phenix City. Have lived in South Carolina since the early 80s, but lifelong Tide fan. Yes, the trails in the Columbia area are a well-kept secret. They're really nice. And they're all riverside trails.
This trail looks amazing. We love history too and hoping to get out to this trail in the next couple weeks and check it out. Thanks for the great overview. Will be looking at your other videos for fun other rides to do as well while we are in the South. Also, thanks for keeping us laughing. The humor was spot on. The crime victim statue is questionable lol.

I’ve always heard of it as the “armpit of South Carolina”. Been there many times since my wife’s brother used to live there. Or maybe the saying “the only thing between hell and Columbia is a screen door”. Another great video!
I’ve also heard it called Satan’s armpit. For some reason, Columbia inspires thoughts of armpits, hell, and the devil. 😂 the area does have some really nice bike trails though.
That river looks quite a lot like James River through Richmond. Good job Scott.

Apparently, the city motto has recently changed to "Together, We are Columbia." So, a city of incremental improvements.

This looks like the type of trail me and my wife are looking for. How long is this trail ?
I’m going off memory right now… But I think it would be about 4 to 5 miles one way … so about nine or 10 miles out and back.
There are sections that are closed due to damage from the 2015 levy overtopping that extended the trail with eventual plans to connect to the other side of the river and connecting with trail systems in the upstate. So while it will eventually be about 90 miles long, this trail, its current state is approximately 2.5 miles each way (or 5 miles from the water plant to the diversion dam and back.

I was born in Columbus, Georgia because Columbus had the best hospital… But we lived in Phenix City, Alabama - just across the river, just across the state line. Also spent some important growing-up years in Eufaula, Alabama. 🙂🏈🐘

You're right, I did miss them...didn't see any that I recall. I think this video was shot in August of '23 so it was crazy hot outside...maybe they had sought shelter from the sun... 🤔
