WORLD'S LARGEST 10 Commandments & the Murphy River Walk
Ride alongside as I explore the lovely Murphy River Walk in Autumn. Murphy, a quaint town in the mountains of Western North Carolina is home to not only the River Walk but also Fields of the Wood, a Christian "theme park" of sorts that boasts the World's largest Ten Commandments display, on the side of a mountain! We'll check out all of that and much more in this edition of Joyful Trails.
I'm Scott. I explore, review and rate bike trails on this channel...and hopefully find a little joy in the journey. Thanks for watching!

At least she didn't meet Santa at Denny's! 😂
Ha! I almost forgot about that… 😂 well, I TRIED to forget about that… 😆
@@joyfultrails 🤣 Sorry, I brought it up! Merry Christmas!
My Wife and I ride a tandem bicycle and we really enjoy your videos. I personally really liked this one because when I was 7 years old, my Mom and Dad would go on vacation to visit relatives, and we always stopped here. I have tried to find this place for years now, and Thanks to you I know where it is. By the way I am 73 years old.
Wow! Thank you for sharing that with me. That is awesome!
She knows who he is, and it's not good. Look up the history of santa.
No bike, no trail, still good.
Great video! You should also take in the Nashville downtown riverfront trail, and the other trails in the Nashville area. And another cool bike bridge crossing is over the Mississippi at Memphis TN.
@@mobilemiall Thanks for the heads up. I’ve had Nashville sort of on my list for a while … just haven’t been able to get to it yet. I didn’t know about Memphis … crossing the Mississippi would be SUPER cool.
Sees you when you're sleeping, knows when you're awake? Sounds like the head of my HOA, Karen Busybody. Except she also knows how many times you flush the toilet and shower.
😂🤣🤪😜
I've actually had someone call the police because I was standing in a PARK with a camera. Apparently because I had a 'professional camera' with a long lens and I was near a pool, some 'karen'/'ken' was convinced I was some sort of creeper. Credit to the officer, he took a very non-confrontational approach in talking to me. But it was invasive and I'm sure there is a record of my name as a 'contact' with the PD on that day. So I guess maybe it's better she came whining at you? I'm glad you educated them on the legalities.
Wow…people are touchy these days. But the weird thing is, they should be more used to cameras than ever before.
@@joyfultrails No joke. Although there is a joke that you allude to. They are on camera ALL THE TIME. Heck, most of the time they end up behind me, they are being recorded by the radar/tailight/cam unit.
@ Yep
Glad to hear someone that feels the same as me about helmets. I'm sure if I did a lot of road riding then I would probably get a helmet. But for trail riding I never use one. I rode from child to young adult and they didn't even make helmets....lol
Yep. Preach! 😂
@joyfultrails next time you're in Louisville let me know and I'll join ya. Born and raised here. I just recently retired and hopefully going to get out on some of the trails you've been riding. Also want to do the CtoC trail in Florida
And the Lord spoke to you, once you reached the top and said. Go to the nearest location and buy a UGA cap and ditch the loser you are wearing. LOL
Thank you for sharing this Scott. We didn’t get to ride the tweetsie trail due to rain and cold but maybe we can visit Field of the Wood on our way home. My Momma would love this. I do love river trails. It is a certain kind of relaxation for me.
Sounds like a plan!
Another great video. I bet your Dad loved watching it.
Is that you singing Amazing Grace?
No, it's not. I got that from a production music library called Epidemic Sound.
@@joyfultrailsmusic can really communicate. Luv it!
This was a beautiful video with a beautiful message. I sensed that your singing was spontaneous and was certainly heartfelt . I was touched. Thanks for the humor as well. You're a funny guy, you know!
Thank you! It is not me singing...but I did search thru my music library for just the right song and that one seemed to fit. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
What a joyful trail thanks for sharing
You're welcome!
Pretty a-cappella song.
“God’s creation!” Love it brother! We’ve going to Dillsboro and Cherokee from Harrisburg, but I believe we’ll press onto Murphy. Thanks to your video!
Awesome. It's a cool little town and the River Walk is nice and peaceful.
Each video is better than the previous. Excellent content and outstanding humor. More importantly, thanks for not being afraid to mention the name of Jesus our Savior.
Thanks!
ua-cam.com/video/Qi5GXwY7W_0/v-deo.htmlsi=FDqKhkbYJroYMCVQ How are the 10 Commandments have changed from the Jewish Bible
That's a really well-made video. I need a drone. Uh-oh... I just broke one of the commandments...I mean, one of the ten sayings...I mean, one of the ten words... I'm COVETING his drone!
Scott, your giant cross in KY is actually in Tennessee. 😂
You’re right! I was on my way to Kentucky when I stopped and shot that video so that’s what I remembered… Oops! 😂
@ I went to college in Ky, drove by there numerous times!!
@@jeffkimble8857 The funny thing is...it's right next to what looks like a strip club or adult bookstore... 🤷♂😳
@@joyfultrailsit is! There is a “faked” photo that makes the rounds showing the cross having fallen into and smashing the store! 😅. When it starts to warm up again…the wife and I will Probably be back on the Granite City Greenway or the New River trail frequently. I mentioned them to you a while back. Maybe we will see you on the trails!
Well, we have one here in Kentucky too. 😊
I almost fell in the St Johns while riding down the Main St Bridge, the blue one, because someone was texting in the middle of the pedestrian path.
😳
I once convinced my cousin that Baldwin was named after Alec Baldwin
@@jcsadventures8975 😂😂😂 That’s hilarious
@joyfultrails ive lived here my whole life and have never done that trail. That changes tomorrow
@ Cool!
Very entertaining video. Did God tell you to lose weight before or after your stop for barbecue?
😂🤣😂 Well, the "revelation" was kind of a joke. I joke that I conceived in my head while I was still down on the ground. That whole 360-step climb up the hill was an elaborate set-up to a punch line. That's how committed I was to the bit. 😆 But Big Nick's was after. And if I keep eating at places like Big Nick's they may start calling me Big Scott. 😜
Wonderful video and your voice is beautiful, thank you for sharing it.
That was not me singing...but thanks!
@@joyfultrails 😄
Another great video, and your voice on Amazing Grace was wonderful. Thank you. Now, a question I assume you have been asked many times, have you ridden the Silver Comet and Chief Ladiga Trails? A friend and fellow subscriber to your channel tells me you did a video about the Silver Comet early on, but I do not find it in your videos list. I notice your videos are generally on shorter trails, so I would recommend a snippet of the Silver Comet, starting from Powder Springs or Hiram going west to Rockmart which has a mixture of suburban and rural beauty. Highlights would be the Pumpkinvine Trestle, and the Brushy Mountain Tunnel. The Silver Comet makes the list of top ten rail trails in the country, and in my experience the top 3.
That wasn't me singing, but thanks! Yes, the Comet & Ladiga have been on my radar for a long time...but I kind of wanted to set aside several days to do it ALL...and so far I just haven't been able to fit it into my schedule. But I will!
Good Morning. the only thing I can say is Thank You.
Yeah buddy!! Beautiful trail! Well done Scott. I must have missed it but how long is the trail? Any way, great trail capped off with good barbecue! But as you stood at the bottom of "Fields of the Wood" I was praying, "Lord, Send him up that mountain!" Scott, I was your biggest cheerleader every step you took to reach the top. Thank you for your inspiring content in cycling for us older folk and thank you for not being afraid to share the faith. Both are good and wholesome. Be Blessed!
Thanks, I appreciate the support! I think the trail is about 4 miles...so, 8 miles out-and-back.
Sigh. Another place i need to add to the Blue Ridge Explorer list! In an awkward dpot for me because id have to go 26 to 74 but definitely seems like a cool place to visit and a gorgeous river walk!
Off the beaten path, but worth it. 🙂
What a great video. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
So was Big Nicks before or after your revelation? LOL
Another great video! Beautiful Riverwalk. Have you ever ridden the New River Trail north of Hillsville, VA. It runs from Pulaski, VA to Fries, VA? It's a rail trail. 57 miles long but can be ridden in shorter segments.
I've had my eye on that one for a good while, but I haven't had enough time to set aside for it... And now I understand that it was substantially damaged by Hurricane Helene. 😕 But I will get to it before too long. Thanks for the reminder!
Hi Scott, Thanks for the review of the trail and Fields of the Wood. It reminded me that I have a cedar box I bought there over 50 years ago. The sticker on the bottom says I paid $3.75.
Wow! I noticed they have a gift shop. I didn't go in there. Not sure if it was open...
Excellente'! I vacation about a half hour from Murphy every year and have been since 2001, yet I had never heard of Fields of the Wood! I know where I'll be going next summer - and riding the trail. I had planned on doing the trail last summer, but didn't get a round tuit. Maybe this year, I'll have one. Thanks again for another great video, Scott.
You need to check it out. Off the beaten path...and kind of an off-beat attraction! The trail is nice and peaceful.
Cool excursion after a nice trail. That’s the stuff, right there.
Thanks!
What a beautiful trail! I am so glad that it wasn't completely destroyed by the storms..... And the Fields of the Woods is another on our destination list. I saw the Ten Commandments on the post you made a few weeks ago, and I have been waiting for the video to be ready for our viewing ever since. Another great video! Thank you, Scott!
Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, I think Murphy was sort of on the outskirts of the storm-affected area.
@@joyfultrails I saw a few pictures of a trail called New River Trail in Puluski, Virginia. Have you ever been there?
@@SugarPatchMaker It's on my list! But I think large sections are currently closed due to construction and/or storm damage. But I will get to it eventually.
Back ground music really fits this video .
@@stephenwhite546 Thanks. I spent a good amount of time looking for the right music/songs. It’s gratifying for you to notice and comment on that.
Great video! Your editing is wonderful and video work is pleasing. I want now to visit and experience this Murphy that you have presented. Keep up the good work, my brother in Christ.
It's off the beaten trail...but worth seeking out. 🙂
On second thought, don't get an e bike, you will not lose any weight if you don't pedal on your rides.
Well...I guess maybe some people don't pedal if they have the throttle type. But I would just like to have a little boost going up hills. The truth is...I don't ride often enough for it to be any kind of a meaningful exercise program. I think my main problem is what I eat. January's comin'... Time to make some changes!
@@joyfultrails How can you resist those delicious meals at places where you may never get the chance to visit again? Besides, a good ride will burn most of thos calories.
Hey! It's Sunday evening and our friend Scott is back with another interesting trail video Excellent way to bring the weekend to a happy conclusion.
Glad you enjoyed it, sir!
Love this video! You did an amazing job as always. My parents took me to fields of the woods when I was a child and loved it. We revisited it a couple of years ago and was so glad it is still open to the public. We didn’t realize there was a bike trail nearby until your video. We are excited to add this one to our bucket list and end the day with Nicks BBQ. Thank you so much for sharing!
Awesome!
Impressive !!! Ten Commandments mountain. Beautiful place !! Hopping some day have opportunities to see it all. Thanks again for the opportunity to see this beauty, go through your joyful trail lens.🙏
You're welcome! It really is an incredible place.
Well, I’ve binge watched your entire channel. For the first time of being on YT, I’ve clicked the bell icon. I’m gonna need you to hit more trails sir.
Whoa! You deserve some sort of an award for that 😂
@@joyfultrails that’s 5 stars!!!!…for the faithful Joyful Trails subscriber.
Guys our age shouldn’t be eating so many cream filled cookies…just sayin’. 😃
You're right! Maybe there's some kind of a 12-step program I can join... 😆
Part 1 already had me thinking about a trip to see this trail. Certainly looking forward to that next year. But now I'm wondering, which is the OTHER trail that you've also awarded the "destination trail" title to?
The Virginia Creeper Trail...which, sadly, is no longer the same after Hurricane Helene. But hopefully it will be rebuilt and restored.
