3:32 I found it to be rather interesting when you mentioned people saying YSL instead of the Yves Saint Laurent. There is a brilliant italian philosopher called Giorgio Agamben who wrote a great essay, 'Profanations', where he writes exactly something about the monogram (YSL), as a name that cannot be spoken, there are only letters, it is the secret name, given in the beginning, in the Garden of Eden.

When you finally know how to speak it properly people will tend to look at you differently. It seemed like you're joking and you're the one speaking it incorrectly. I told my friend how to pronounce Lanvin but she was like, "you're weird"... But, Thank You very much! It's so nice to hear the brands being spoken by native of France. Also, I never knew that that is the way you should pronounce Longchamp.😅 👍👍👍 ●~~~~●
Louis Vuitton is the most difficult one. I always wonder if the "L " has any sound, as sometimes I heard ppl speak with the L sound, but some don't, please clarify
Other brands I see people mispronouncing are famous french wines and champagne. Such as: Dom PeriGNON, Veuve Clicquot, Moet & Chandon, etc. Another thing you can do is regions in France that are more difficult to pronounce correctly such as Reims, Caen, Bourgogne, Auvergne, etc. etc. There are tons.
Yes, that's fun and indeed foreigners mispronounce French very easily, BUT now the French who talk about foreign brands themselves.... Tommy Hilfiger (not "Ilfi-guerre" as they say in France), but also a beer from my country: Heineken. Or when French people pronounce artist's names, like: Michael Jackson ("Mika-el Jacques-son"). So who is funnier ????

Terre D'Hermes is my favourite perfume (for men), but although you said 'it's an easy one', I actually heard this mis-pronounced a lot. I heard 'Her-Meez' before, which would sound very funny to French people I guess. The 'Vetemens' bit was funny. I know it's not a fashion brand, but how do I say 'Ladurée'? The two 'ee's look confusing; and I don't think I ever heard anyone ever actually say it before. Thanks!
Yes, that helps. Thanks! Just an idea, but how about a short video of French city pronunciations? I am going to France soon for a couple of weeks. My first stop is Reims (which I am not totally sure about how to pronounce) and also there are other places too like Troyes, Rouen which are maybe mis-pronuncables.
Hermes with apostrophe people all the time say wrong. they say Ermiz. :O Once someone asked me what perfume I used and I said "Terre d' Hermes " and they didnt get it when I said properly ----and when I showed them advertisement when they say in French then they said : "ah ermiz " . :(

Because that's how the greek god Hermès is pronounced in French. Proper pronunciation of old latin or greek words that are still perceived to be somewhat latin or greek rather than just a French word that originated from Latin or Greek follow their own rules. Scientists have not always agreed on what the proper pronunciation for them is and, as a result, the pronunciation thought at school for those words has varied somewhat. For instance, we have the French "Musée" pronounced the usual french way but in "muséum" (meaning a natural sciences museum) the second "u" is pronounced "o" which is not something you would have in a "real normal" French word.
@@soyesth They are not. There appears to be an ongoing shift to pronounce the "in" like "un" but it's far from being done so everywhere, even in France, and in every case. What would really help is if you would spell out the word(s) in phonetics because the music drowns out the subtleties of the sounds. Also, I get the feeling that she's laughing at us to our face. Improve it and make it more worthwhile to learn.
Are you pronouncing at all the “l” in Gaultier? If you see the old word for France it’s Gaul and you say the l. But in Gaultier, I do not say the “”l”. I’m listening to you to see if you pronounce th l in his name and there is a difference between saying “Gautier” with no l and the way you say Gaultier even if I’m not hearing the l. So what is that difference?

"Bouygues Telecom"
