X was a great band from LA. Ray Manzarek produced their first album, and even played on their classic song “World’s a Mess (That’s in Your Kiss). Ray loved X. I saw X live at the Whiskey A Go-Go in 1980. Wild times indeed.
The album Los Angeles by X was actually produced by the keyboard player Ray Manzarek. He even played organ on a few songs. It's a great album that y'all should dig into!
For years I thought The Doors were just ‘Light my fire’ but then I watched Apocalypse Now and I heard ‘The End’ and thought who is that again. And it really opened my eyes to The Doors full playlist, I was very naive before. I had heard lots and lots of their songs before I just didn’t know it. I now love The Doors.
Saw The Doors Philadelphia 1968 . So they had seats that you were assigned. I got out of my seat and got to the spot where just had his milk stand and he looks at me and he says I this , I guess is the city of brotherly love only the boys rush the stage. People saw me going up and soon there lots of people around. I really liked them but I knew the Grateful Dead and they thought not having a bass sucked. In the song LA woman that first thing he says is, Did a little drop about a hour ago, took a look around to see which way the wind blows. I met The Grateful Dead in 1971 .
This original studio release of “Break on Through “ was listened to for many years before the “She gets high” version was finally released. Frankly I prefer the original as I grew up listening to it.
I'm sure a lot of it is just what I'm used to, but the uncensored version of "Break On Through" throws me for a loop. It doesn't flow as well with the "high" in there. I like the percussive "She get! She get!" though I wouldn't mind it building to an ultimate "high" rather than just an incomprehensible mouth noise.

@@MusicforBusyPeople Yes and no. I was talking about a version that they did on television, so you could see the sadness on his face while he was singing. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🤟🤟🤟🤟
During these years LSD influenced many bands it LSD was happening and I knew the Grateful Dead and Bear the LSD King. The first line in LA woman is did a little dot about an hour ago took a look around to see which way the wind blows. I lived for bands that were into acid.
I think so. He supposedly plays bass on Back Door Man, and (maybe) Soul Kitchen & Twentieth Century Fox. But other than that, I think it was always session musicians.
I just don't think the Doors were very good studio musicians. I think their albums would have benefited from some help from the Wrecking Crew or Muscle Shoals players. I like the songs, though.

Very cool. I was never sure how big they were in the UK.

Oh wow. Nice. My all time favorite band. Side one definitely eases you into things. Not sure Dev will be quite so chill by 'The End'
SHE GETS HI
John Densmore has said in interviews that bossa nova, which was becoming popular in the early/mid sixties, was one of his drumming influences.

Can't wait until you guys hear The End, When The Music's Over.
X was also produced by Ray Manzarek early in Xs career.. that would probably explain why they covered it..
Bossa nova drums influence.

Remember not to take The Doors' lyrics literally, Jim was a poet with an active imagination

As far as I know, the keyboard player did all the bass on a keyboard! I’m gonna look it up!
He did when playing live. In the studio they used a session player.
Psychedelic travel.
Olivia's deli from memory
Didn't Krieger only play the bass on a couple songs in the band's catalog? On that first album?

This song is all about, susan atkins...maybe not, but it would be cool if it was

The millions of fans who love them would disagree, wholeheartedly.
so you're saying i have a chance? LOL
I wouldn't have them changed a thing. Their sound was unique and mysterious.
Totally disagree, they were excellent musicians.
