The End represents something beyond time and space. This song has a depth like no song I've ever heard. It is pure gold encrusted with the finest colorful, distorted jewels of poetry and emotions. Once the song is over, it's hard to believe it's over. It just is and always will be the endless. 🤔
Remember Morrison was Influenced by the 1954 Aldous Huxley autobiographical "The Doors of Perception" (Thus the band namesake) combining his exploration of mescaline the previous year and eastern mysticism. He tried to attain that level of spirituality but was more destructive with alcohol and other drugs that took him out of existence prematurely.
Seen the doors in 1968. What's that Veterans Memorial Coliseum during the fair. After the concert the band rode the tram across the top of the fairgrounds to the other side. The whole way they were shouting lewd remarks and spitting loogies. The news had a field day the following day.lol they were asked to leave and never come back. But Soon forgotten they did come back. Then sadly Morrison decided to become a member of the 27 Club. Only other band we seen that year was Iron Butterfly at the ASU Activity Center. 🚜🤠🐂
This is the original stereo mix. The F-Bomb version it a much later remix. The original mono mix has the F bombs, but they are not as loud as what's in the remix.
Great reaction. Think Dev's face was all of us on first hearing 'that moment' in The End. It's a song that stays with your forever though. Never get tired of revisiting. Instant mellow whenever i spin it. Vote for the LA Woman album for a future revisit. Song for song arguably their best.
bean dip, good metaphor.... morrison meant the end to scale up in theme. various levels of meaning that converge into a shared concept. its done by both using symbolist lyrics & a lineal narrative, along w/ excellent mood scape layers in the music.... lyrically & philosophically, morrison was real into cycles, long arc & big pic view. it was a breakup song encompassed by the culture & its long history playing itself out into his own coming of age line in the sand. the breakup was literal w/ his very close 4 year relationship w/ mary werbelow. the rest is how he is forced to face his own place in the world on his 2 feet going forward. he hints to a culture becoming unraveled & near the end of its cycle. the snake is the arc of that culture, from ancient egypt (kings hiway)/rome forward to the present modern LA. it represents knowledge, power & conquest from genesis of the west in carthage/rome, across the ocean to modern present. the span of the civiliz. the ancient lake is when it returns to the sea completing the cycle. Morrison may have very well seen in the '60s the west unraveling. hence, the line, the children insane, waiting for the summer rain (enlightment). notice he compares it to ancient Rome, the cultures dna & alive in the modern w/ its destructive appetites.... the scene w/ the family, is his figurative breakage from this order. hes using the oedipal greek story. kill the father (representing the old order & control) & embracing the earth & fertility (mother). Again, a 22 yr old coming of age forced to a head by broken love & a world he senses is falling around him. the blue bus may be his peers send off to nam or a metaphor for his own passageway to freedom..... the end, is misunderstood, its not a death song. by the end of the song, it isnt death, its staring death in its eyes & finding ones ability to find inner strength, identity & move forward. listen close again, to the last stanza. as in the old native vision scapes, the young male has experienced his pain, seen his vision, earned his truth & now is ready to move in total freedom as a self contained adult.
"You're traveling through another dimension; a dimension of not sight and sound but of mind..." The Twilight Zone "This is the end my only friend the end..." The Doors "I want to believe." The X-Files There is a nexus between these three things.

The End was recorded back in August 1966, far ahead of its time in both words and musical approach.
You should give a listen to the end extended version...its a real trip.
"Backdoor man", meaning a guy sneaking through the back door to have an affair with a another man's woman is a standard blues trope.
The Doors are incredibile.
One word describes this MASTERPIECE 😅😊
Best album ever. Morrison was something else, so much passion man, lets go great video!!!!
A most intriguing piece of work. 🤘❤️
End of the night… some are born to sweet delight, some are born to endless night… is from a poem by William Blake.

Do yourself a favor and watch "the end" live in Toronto 1967. It's their best performance ever!
This is the edited version of The End. It cuts him using the F word several times.
