If you want a longer Doors song check out "The End". Not only is it longer, it will probably shock you a bit. My favorite Doors song is "Riders On The Storm" which you should listen to with headphones on, the lights and eyes closed. It will take you on a voyage to a different place.

Diane has already featured _Riders on the Storm_ in a previous video. Scroll back through the list to find it. It was her first exposure to The Doors, and she was very surprised at how chill it was. She expected something more of a rocker.

Diane, not only would the review of "The End" be good, since you have degrees in film, you should make sure to view APOCALYPSE NOW, if you haven't already. Lots of pop music of the 60's featured there. "The End" is an essential component of the film. Studying lots more in music could make your approach to film stronger.

I don't listen to the radio, but I like listening to hour long mixes. If there is a single song on Spotify and I don't know it or not in love with it or even a part of a song I'm not a fan of, I'll skip the song, but when it is an hour long mix I'll persist through a song I don't love to hear the rest of the mix. I like listening to music on vinyl because of the inconvenience of skipping a song so I'll listen to the whole side. I've found some songs I didn't know that I loved after listening to them a few times on a side of a record.

Good reaction love anything from the Doors. I was intrigued by your comment that most rock and roll songs are in some way a metaphor for drug use. It’s very true that drugs have been a theme and a problem throughout musical history. Jazz musicians of the 20s and 30s regularly used marijuana and dabbled in harder stuff. Point of the comment though is to direct you to some really good rock songs with very Anti Drug message. They are out there. Lynard Skynard’ “That Smell”, Neil Young’s “The Needle and the Damage Done” and Stppenwolf’s “The Pusher” all classic rock jams with strong anti drug message. Even some songs everyone was sure were about drugs really weren’t (if we are to believe the groups that sung them” Tje Beatles all vehemently denied that Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” had anything to do with LSD as Peter Paul and Mary have always maintained that “Puff The Magic Dragon” was a children’s song about a little boy and his magical frien a dragon and not a reference to smoking pot.

It is over 17 minutes long and was very influential on what became known as heavy metal. Rumor has it the name was supposed to be called In the Garden of Eden, but the title was supposedly misheard because the singer was high and slurred the words.

Thanks Diane! I was thinking during the song that it sounded like a psychedelic 60’s song. So I guess a 1967 release date explains that! It reminded me of my dad’s older sister who was a full on hippy back in the day with every stereotype that name suggests. It was definitely a different sort of time back then.

Long songs were started in 67 which had to have the new FM Rock stations to reach the masses. Another phrase is Album Rock. With the Doors you should start with the first album and start your trip. For sure the greatest period in history to be young.

Another reason that songs were shorter back then was that they had to be so that they could fit on 7, 45 RPM records that had only one song on each side. They were very popular back in the day because they were much cheaper than full albums.

"Break on through to the other side" is an invite to explore the other side of yourself, the part that has no boundaries, the zone that is free from the shackles that society imposes on us. It's a place beyond a door, the door of perception, the door that separates us from infinite. Jim Morrison was quite a peculiar guy.

I'm betting you would really like their song The Crystal Ship. BTW, they use to ban song for the silliest reasons in the '60s. Them's song Gloria was banned in Chicago for being suggestive because he said "she came up to my room. She made me feel alright. Same with the song Louis Louis because they couldn't understand the words so it must be dirty. It was tough for us back then.

Watch the video. Jim Morrisson was a great performer. I had a major crush on him in college and had a full-length poster of him on my door.

While it was important for a band to have at least one track of an album to get airplay on broadcast radio, the bands of that time weren't as concerned about such things as the record companies who published their music. The Doors did release a number of successful radio singles, but the singles were sometimes cut-down album tracks. In 1967, F.M. radio wasn't a thing, so all stereo album tracks had to be remixed as monaural recordings for A.M. radio. The album tracks were always better, and sometimes longer.
The Doors albums always had tracks that were too long or too controversial to be heard anyplace other than your home, car or live performance.
Some examples of longer songs would be _The End_ and _When the Music's Over._ Both songs are at least as well known as any single release because their albums were everywhere.

The Doors were a very "Theatrical" act in their concerts , but that side of Morrison also comes through in his lyrics . With your acting / theatrical background , I can see why you are attracted to them . But then , Morrison always did have a way with the ladies 🙂

DITTO:To have singles played on radio, they had to be short enough to fit on a 45rpm record for sale to the public.3 minutes or less.

This was great. I assumed the confusion in names came about because of your fascination with Jim Morrisons ability to fill out his leather pants in the last video. Focus is always a deciding factor in memories. When Diane started to groove to the beat, the hand motions made me think Diane would have made a great go go dancer in this period. Mini Skirt, knee high white boots, attitude, and blond hair, yep that was the check list. You got it all covered. No wonder Chewie is mesmerized by Diane.
