This was the first game I ever played. Back in 1997. It came with my family's gateway2000 computer. The whole setting of this game freaked me out, but I was obsessed with it. I remember playing it for hours. Those were the days.
Same here, my Acer Pentium 1 MMX also came with this game (and a couple others like ¨The City of Lost Children¨ both dark and cool games with great scenario)
I ripped the CD to a high quality VBR mp3 a looooooong time ago and it randomly played in my music collection. Decided to see if anyone else was aware of its existence
Do you guys remember the car that looked like the tip of a trident? This game was a lot of fun because of the secret passages, jumps and music. Good times!
Love the 90s industrial rusted acid etched twisted metal techno neutral tone low res low poly aesthetic of planet of death and the OG half life on goldsrc.
Buy it from GoG, if you still have the CD you can use it with dgvoodoo to change the game resolution. GoG version still use 3Dfx glide but it retain the original 640x480 resolution, with dgvoodoo or nglide you can up it to your modern resolution but it will asked for CD. GoG special built of glide2x.dll has been modified to work without CD.
Got this in xmas 1997 packed with my Fujitsu 166MMX, The game supported intels new multimedia MMX extention and the game showed it off pretty well. There was also a 3DFX update patch you could download from UBI SOFTS website sometime in 1998'. I played this game alot, it was technically very good by 1997 standards.
Used to play this on a friend's PC for hours, taking our turns. I already had an Amiga and I was, of course, religiously convinced of its superiority. :) But POD was a massive PC game and I loved it. Indeed, in 2000 I bought my first PC and I have had Windows machines ever since. Still have two Amigas though and the Amiga Forever emulator. Some things are still more easily done on Workbench after all these years.
Hope they will get this on Steam one day. Would so buy it. Loved playing it way back when and the soundtrack always made me drift off into my own world when id played. Thanks for sharing
Yeah I've seen people post this. Only reason I say steam is because there is such a wide variety of games old and new, crossing all different platforms through them. Id rather have a mix of games from one place then numerous accounts across the web to play games here and there. If one day I get a bad enough itch to play it, I will get it there.
uff! como me recuerda por el 99 cuando me compraron la revista con el cd... despues de jugar me ponia escuchar los tracks en mi equipo de musica.. INOLVIDABLE
Still one of the best physics engine for a racing game, not too easy/dumb and not too hard either... The problem was the AI in these old racing games, you have to choose between "super easy win always" or "super hard finish last everytime"
haha i never realized the background noises in this track sound like the noise a messenger program would make upon receiving a message. i kept looking at skype/facebook/slack every time
It was a laggy, glitched racing game. But I could play this game for many hours. I miss the custom cars, tracks, and racing around the planet maps. The Pod Patch program helped with downloading custom cars, and tracks. The music is not that bad to hear. I liked finding the shortcuts in the tracks on the maps.
@@CSullivanmeerkatmandude Awesome, but while using the steering wheel the pedals were malfunctioning and my thumbs hurt as i press the thick round red buttons on the wheel. It's the only way to drive it. Jeepers.
If this game would get a remake/"spiritual reboot", I wouldn't be surprised if it be more like your average Combat Racing Game (Twisted Metal, Full Auto, etc.) I mean, all these racers are... well, racing... for their lives. So of course they'd play dirty (Well, that's putting it mildly)
Thank you! I love this soundtrack. Wish I could remember what my favorite car was called- gold and stripy...Loved Beltane and that shopping mall map. Huh, then got Half-Life and never went back..shame on me!
Does anyone know if Ubisoft Pod will work on Windows 7 Ultimate, and Windows 10? This was a great racing game on my old Windows XP Computer. The music was good too.
@116372598291442345808 I will have to check it out online. The 2nd older version of the racing game does install, but when you enter the game the whole Fullscreen is messed up. Can't click on any buttons because the cursor on the screen is hard to see.
+116372598291442345808 +109616220354905837435 I got UbiSoft Pod to work on my Windows 7 computer laptop. But the graphics are too fast. There is lagging between going to and from a track to race. I played one track it seemed ok.
I have nGlide, pod3dfx, dgVoodoo1.5Beta2, updatePOD21_3dfx installed on my computer. The PodHacks does need a password from the developer to extract the files. I do not have that password. I use 7-Zip for Zip files.

Woah. I have this literal exact same memory, other than it not being the first game I ever played. Greetings from across time :-)
I bought it with a PC Game Magazine and the music blew my mind, and still! :D
TheOnlyDeerAlive I got it the same way you did. I think Eraser and a couple others came with it...
Same here, my Acer Pentium 1 MMX also came with this game (and a couple others like ¨The City of Lost Children¨ both dark and cool games with great scenario)
This was my first game too, a friend from school had it complete, and from time to time would lend it to me.
Man.. this game scared me a little as a kid. So futuristic feeling.
lol yesss!
Me too, actually, no game ever scared me more than POD, not even horror games
which year you were born bro
Me too lmao. The Dystopian City looked so dead. Like hell.
The composer is Daniel Masson.
I ripped the CD to a high quality VBR mp3 a looooooong time ago and it randomly played in my music collection. Decided to see if anyone else was aware of its existence
Do you still have it? 👀 I kinda want It
I honestly never played the game. I always just put it in my CD player and jammed this song. Just now remembering some 22yrs later and still jams.
It was my first pc game, of the year, original. Still have the cd and front. My life changed that day.
Scorpio was the name of my dog. So naturally that was the only car I ever drove.
I literally had nightmares with this game when i was kid
Same. I hated when my car got stuck somewhere when I hit a barricade. Felt like something was gonna chase me down
what a kick ass soundtrack!
Do you guys remember the car that looked like the tip of a trident? This game was a lot of fun because of the secret passages, jumps and music. Good times!
The Scorp.
+Zachary Johnson I alaways thought it looked like a snake from behind.
That was my jam
I think everyone drove Scorpion on that game, if UA-cam videos are any indication.
When I was Child, if the trident was behind me, I was scared 😅😅 today, at 28, it's the same 😅😂
Pod just smells of the late 90s. 😂❤❤❤
This... was... Ubisoft.
Gushousekai195 RIP
Man, i still remember that crazy jump that made my space mobile fly like hell! Good old times! :)
best racing game ever well worth the effort to get working on mordern pcs
Best game and best music of an alien world ever created.
Love the 90s industrial rusted acid etched twisted metal techno neutral tone low res low poly aesthetic of planet of death and the OG half life on goldsrc.
Same
Nice
My favorite and only car ever used in this game was Bakar! Fast, flexible and reliable! Missed it so much!
i remember playing this game with a force feedback steering wheel...... it was impressive for the time!
best futuristic game and sound track
if you play it you are inside
I had a gateway 2000 too. It came with the demo of this game. And others like the Third Dimension.. Etc.. Love this game
This is beautifully atmospheric
oh this game was my childhood :3

for old games gog is the way to go, on steam not all the games are patched for modern machines
very true^

For one moment I thought I was receiving Steam notifications
Que de souvenirs 😃 ; la 3dfx, POD et mon PC 166MMX 🤗

They need to make a new game that's like this.
I hear a lot of samples from the bill laswell sample library in this lol
My favourite car was Gamma or the blue one that kinda looked like an F1 car, slider drove it I believe :)
+Dave Checkley As far as i know it was named Bakar oder something
FUEGO for Beltane and...damnit...
Plant 21 was my favorite track and the car for that was...no sorry, don't have it.
Not the Deuce though ;)
ATTENTION: for those who still wanna play it -> www.gog.com/game/pod_gold (playable on modern computers, like all games there)
i loved this an now listening back i really really miss it. wish i could get this again
ebay.
Others didn't escape. My favourite tracks are Pompeii and Gallery

this was my first pc game
Came as one of the discs with a Compaq Presario PC.
The Scorpion 🦂!! Everyone drove that. Definitely the car that got the winner off the planet 😆
This was the first game I played on computer.
A master piece

The gold car from UbiSoft Pod is called Doppel. I have not played that racing game for a long time.
i used to drive the tracks backwards and the cars would launch into the sky when they collided 😂
1:23 that sound effect sounds like the one in Sonne by Rammstein
Listen to this at 1.5x speed, it almost sounds like it was slowed down for the game.
I didn't own this game. but it was epic
I've always loved this.. wish i knew who the composer was.. : /
Daniel Masson, french composer
@@ednbo thank you!!
incredible soundtrack. tried to find it on the cd files but didn't find it...

There is an Edition of this game called POD - Gold (made in 2011). Its the original game with the Expansion Pack and it works perfect on Win 7.
