@@Fab92-s6x I'm old enough to remember the same nonsense was said about the PLO before hamas ever existed. What you have is what people call selective memory. The PLO had long proposed a 2 state solution which Israel was never interested in for 2 reasons: 1) security concerns 2) zionist extremists (many of whom backed by zionists and evangelists in the US) want control and sovereignty over all of Palestinian territories (as evidenced by countless settlements surrounding Palestinian towns and cities making a 2 state solution impossible today). These are of course against international law but why should we give a rats ass about internation law or the UN.... the same body that proposed a state of Israel. What is tiresome of this debate is that there is no symmetry in negotiations: One side is powerful and is backed by the empire, and the other has little to no negotiation power. One side is the occupier and oppressor and has all the power.... that is all we need to know.

@@Zeidinho of course Israel has security concerns I can totally understand: A Palestinian state means a state with military power. Palestinians will never accept a state without the destruction of Israel and a genocide they would take into account (From the river to the sea....); so they would compromise but the maingoal is the end of Zionism. The funny thing is Israel offered a Palestinian state 9 times and everytime Palestinians answered with terror because in these offerings Jews still would have an own state. Gaza has a population of 2.2 million, receives vastly more foreign aid per person than any part of the planet, and Hamas has a standing full time army of over 40,000 men.
This means that they have an army half the size of the UK, yet only have a population 3% of the size.

People of Gaza have ZERO CONTROL of their water, food, electricity, fuel, sea, and air they CANT enter or leave Gaza(except a fraction of them are allowed to work in Israel with a fraction of dollar) even cancer patients can't leave to get treatment outside, how the hell this isn't an open air prison? How this isn't a disgusting occupation? How people of the west bank are literally get kicked out of there homes to let settlers to live in and yet this is not an occupation???
The only time that Palestinian got a real offer is in 1947, when the British promised the Palestinian to give them their own independence, and then said you know what? Let's give the Jews 56% of the land and you only take 44%, do you really can't see why they refused to get that offer????? Imagine Chinese come to live in the US then the UN come along and say let's end the conflict by giving the Chinese half of the US land, like WTF, all the the "offers" that followed this weren't real offers in the most generous one Palestine would not have control of THEIR OWN BORDERS FOR 20 YEARS, AND YET YOU EXPECT ANYONE TO AGREE TO THEM

You live in an echo chamber, hearing propaganda from the arab world and you think you are knowledgeable... you are just repeating the lies you were told.
The Palestinian workers got at least the Israeli legal minimum wage (the same minimum wage as applies to Israelis) and more based on their jobs. The minimum wage in the Palestinian Territories is 1,880 Israeli Shekel per month. The average monthly wages of Palestinians working in Israel range between 5,500 and 6,000 shekels, including people in part-time jobs. The better-qualified workers among them easily cross the 10,000-shekel threshold.
Palestinians come to Israel every day to get special medical treatments and there are cancer patients from Gaza who are still (during the war) being treated in Israel. Israel doesn't control the water, electricity, and food in Gaza.... Israel has been providing Gaza with water (only 13% comes from Israel) and electricity (only 50% comes from Israel) as aid, for free. The "control" was only in the form of inspection of what comes in to prevent weapons smuggling, but there was no limit on commodities.
All the offers to the Palestinians had limited border control at the start because the Palestinians had been violent for decades and declared they wanted all of the land of Israel since 1947 when they started the war. The limitations were to prevent weapons from getting in and being used against Israel (AGAIN). This is just as West Germany was forbidden from having a standing army after the end of World War II.
Even your view on the offer in 1947 is propaganda. The Jews got 55% of what? The general region of today’s Israel, West Bank, the Gaza Strip, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon were all part of one entity originally known as Esh-Sham or the Levant.
"Palestine" was supposed to be one of the countries that were the end result of the partition of the Levant, not the original entity that was partitioned.
The Arabs got control of most of the Levant but were mad that the Jews got control of ANY land (refused ANY land partition), so they fought with the League of Nations who eventfully decided to split "Palestine" between the Jews and the local Arabs. Even after this ADDITIONAL partition, they started a war.
The Arabs who lived in the territory that became Israel were invited to be part of Israel as equal citizens (20% of Israeli citizens are Arabs and have equal rights). The current Palestinians are those who lived in what became the Palestinian territories or refused to accept Israel and fought/left during the war.

Land given by the brits should be proportional and ensure the Arabs have minority parties
      Guess what, they have
For the allegory you said, if said Chinese came to the US legally and bought US land legally and they wanted to have a state of their own in said lands separate from you while also having minority parties having significant power. Then yes, what's wrong with agreeing with it?
the 56% is not unfair, if you look at the map, 1/3 of that 50% is actually desert.
so in fact, they only got 37% of the usable land
Egypt/Jordan already controlled the West Bank/Gaza
The Palestinian authority/Hamas already control West Bank/Gaza
Fun fact, if Arabs accepted the 1948 deal, their land borders would be larger than the borders they had from 1948-1960s. and less restrictions for all 3 Abrahamic religions to visit the Temple Mount. Easier access to do excavations since it's a UN entity that is focused on peace/science rather than religion. Blame the Nakba on the Arab League who chose war instead of land/citizen swaps/negotiation
Weird, after 1948, no calls for a Palestinian state in Jordan/Egypt
It's as if Palestine identity is politically made to destroy a legitimate state rather than a real/natural state.
"People of Gaza have ZERO CONTROL of their water, food, electricity, fuel, sea"
      Literally forgot to mention why.
They have no water cuz Hamas used BILLIONS worth of pipes (contributed by EU, a Western "Imperialist") to be converted as rockets
If Hamas didn't send rockets/attacks. Then Israel would allow more workers/pipes/trade. They don't allow trade/very strict with water/transportation of people, hmmm I wonder Why?
      Okay, tell me
What do Palestinians want, 1948 borders?
      or River to the sea?
What kind of river to the sea? One state solution? or One-state, 1 ethno-nationalist group that doesn't allow 2/3 Abrahamic Religions in the Temple Mount (Just like Jordan)
Settlers on West Bank on the other hand. Yeah I agree. Israel should ban all settlers/"immigration"
or at least restrict it with the Palestinian authority regulating what amount/kind of "immigrants" are allowed to settle

Offensive and stupid title. I've heard Eric's argument many times before: "Israel offered them a state. They rejected it. They don't want a state; they want us all dead. You can't negotiate with them. They are monsters/addled by religion/hate, etc." Eric cannot simply wave away international law because he thinks the Palestinians should have accepted the not-very-attractive "state" Israel offered, while it carried on annexing Palestinian land. The unavoidable facts are that the Palestinians are the rightful owners of land that is occupied by Israel, Israel is in violation of international law, and the fates of Israel and the Palestinians are bound together. If Israel wants peace and security more than it wants to take all the land, which appears doubtful, it will have to make an offer that is actually attractive to the other side -- just like in any negotiation.

Its not a right to enter Israel, its a priviledge just like its the same to enter the USA. You think there is no backstory to these border points or the wall in Gaza or the wall surrounding Israel. They are a protection against terror - car rammers, people who stab Jews randonmly, people who blow themselves up ie the intifada 20 years ago. They have every right to protect themselves. Gaza was wall free in 2005. It was erected to stop maniacs walk across the border screaming AA with AXES in their hands. Its just sooo simple to understand and I have no skin in the game whatsoever.

The chant “from the river to the sea” reminds me of the first verse of the German hymn that has been banned in 1945 by the American allies. It contains the lyrics “Von der Maas bis an die Memel, Von der Etsch bis an den Belt” which has been interpreted as revisionist, with national borders being “generously” moved into foreign territory. Whoever chants “from the river to the sea” is either ignorant or has Israel’s destruction in mind.

It was written at a time when slavery was commonly practised, as it had been all around the world, and throughout history. The British, through its Navy, who had won control of the seas, had begun a process of stamping out slavery, not only within those territories it controlled, but also throughout the world. And facing much opposition, especially from Africans, who had been buying and selling human beings for centuries. "Britons never, never shall be slaves", is celebrating the fact that this country had looked to ensure that the possibility of slavery was ended for Brits, and, hopefully, for everyone. They are Palestinians and not the same as a Saudi, Lebanese, Iraqi.... Also, anyone knows that the sticking point of all peace talks is the right of return enshrined in UN Resolution 194 passed in 1948 after Palestinians were forced off their land by Zionist terrorist groups like Irgun, Hagganah and Stern Gang. If EUROPEAN Jews could get restitution after WW2, and subsequently take Palestinian land, why cant Palestinians after the Nakba? @@Alex-xi3bw It's more complicated than just, "The Palestinians were there first." Israel was the Jewish homeland a long time ago, was conquered by the Romans, who later tossed the Jews out because they caused too much trouble. What follows is a long history of one empire or another "owning" the land, ending with the British in the first half of the 20th century. Some Jews lived there under the British, as did some Muslims.
After WWII, the British kept control of the land. The Zionist movement wanted a Jewish homeland, and they wanted their old land (from 1900 years ago) back. Bear in mind that Jews had not had a homeland since they were dispossessed by the Romans. There was a long, complicated process whereby the "Palestine" issue was decided by the British and ultimately the UN. And yes, the Brits did offer a dual state solution to take into account the non-Jews living there, which was, as lari5891 says, was refused.
It's an interesting question to ask why the Palestinians and the surrounding Arab states didn't try to throw out the infidel British, but did try to do so with the Jews. Probably because they thought they could beat the Jews, or maybe they have some special antipathy to Jews -- as many other groups seem to.
Bill Maher said something interesting last week. "If Hamas laid down its arms, there would be peace. If Israel laid down its arms, there would be no Jews living in the Middle East."
The only sane solution to the issue is two states. If you could get the Jews to leave Palestine, who would give them a state? So, it's more likely the two states would need to be in Palestine. Not going to happen, because sanity is in short supply these days.

Saying things like this is gonna sound crazy because you’ve never heard anybody say it before makes it sound like we can’t come up with ideas on our own. And people that listen to these longform interviews can definitely come up with ideas on our own. That’s why were here not to learn so much as to remind ourselves that we’re not crazy and our instincts are correct. It's like saying, "You know that reality-thingy, I'm just going to ignore that!"
Either Gaza is occupied (do you know what that term means, that big word "occupied"?) or it is not.
When it was occupied (by the Israeli military which took it from Egypt in the '67 War -- yeah, it had never been an independent country or part of some Arab nation called "Palestine"), the people of Gaza were NOT living in a totalitarian hell run by the Hamas terrorist organization, where people could be dragged out of their homes into the streets and shot for being "collaborators" without trial.
Israel pulled out of Gaza, forcing its own citizens to leave Gaza, in 2005. It hasn't been occupying it since. In 2006, Gazans voted in Hamas (they haven't had an election since). in 2007, because of repeated rocket attacks and incursions by Hamas into Israel, Israel put up a limited blockade of Gaza's borders (with a fence). It still supplied Gaza with water and electrical power. Food and medicine, etc. were still flowing in; workers who got permits were still driving into Israel to work. Gaza has its own airport and it has harbors ....The blockade is so flimsy that missile parts and other weapons and ammunition were still getting in.
Clearly, the mistake of Israel was to STOP occupying it. Both the Gazan people and Israelis would actually be safer if Israel stayed in and maintained its presence.

Not people like Eric who is purposefuly diverting listener's attention from facts to indulge in one of his philosophical disputes. Civilians in Gaza are being slaughtered right now and the West is helping in this. Israel doesn't fight Jihad, they fight Gazanas, Women, Children. They even "fight" Israeli hostages. There are reports of them shooting at Israeli hostages as per "Hannibal's directive". And, we are here listening to the guy whose idea to resolve the conflict was to do exactly the same thing we already have. Jesus Christ. Edit: Abby Martin - a journalist, who also confirms what Dan and Norman are saying could also be a valuable guest. Israel withdrew its troops to the borders with Gaza controlling what comes in and what comes out. How this is still not an occupation?

That was most clear in the Hannah Barnes episode, where the audience clearly wanted the most sensationalised and simplified presentation possible, and rejected Hannah Barne's painstaking efforts to avoid that, and to do proper journalism (her job). Audience capture is a real thing. Konstantin is becoming more puffed-up over time. Sam Harris's reduction of fundamentalist religious ideas to 'code' is an unsophisticated argument by analogy. Instead, a proper treatmemt would look at religion through social-science lenses, anthropology, social psychology etc.. But Sam sits there with raised eyebrow, as though he's Data from Star Trek, an affectation of objectivity. This is all pandering to populism.

True-ish... they are not occupied in Gaza, they are imprisoned and live in apartheid. But the lands that were historically home to the predominant ancestry in this part of the world (Arabs) have been forced from their homes and from their land since the 1920s. This kind of "reporting" beggars belief and lacks all credibility for this channel.

Was the state the Palestinians were really offered really worth it? Is it Palestinians or you who likes the phrase you cite, “from the river to the sea”? Isnt it true that all Palestinians reject the idea of Israel? What is Israel’s vision of two states? Netanyahu doesn’t have one. So who does, on the Israeli side? Israel’s failure to have such a Vision - and instead to cling to the demeaning view of the Palestinians - - makes it only logical that they would kill as many Palestinians as possible. So isnt the ethnic cleansing you accuse the Palestinians of wanting to perform on Israelis actually equally true of the reverse?

His first words are "I don't believe", as a protection against those who point out the facts. Israel controls what goes into and leaves Gaza. Gaza is prohibited from generating its own power, from controlling its own water. Israeli blockades which is enforced by Egypt by US bribe prevents free entry of food, building materials, and fuel. When Israel feels the need to apply collective punishment, it literally calculated the calorie needs of the population and restricted food to just below that, to create starvation without outright famine. That's what Israel does. And Eric knows that.
