    Leah, your sewing space is really nice. I’m glad you have some natural lighting now. Your honesty is admirable and appreciated. I can’t imagine having severe nightmares over such a long period of time. I hope you get some relief soon.

      Thank you sincerely for the kind words, and vote of confidence!! Patience has really been a keyword in my self-assurance arsenal the first few months of this year. The good news is that the nightmares have subsided significantly, and better sleep has made every day feel a little bit brighter! :)

    Fellow chronic nightmare/nigh terror person. I feel SO SEEN! I'm so sorry you also have to go thru it. I had my first good dream at 30, after going thru EMDR therapy for it. It's been so much better overall, but they still creep in once and a while. Wishing you literal sweet dreams

      Yes, they finally have gotten a little bit less intense (I also think (although can't prove it) that mine are worse in the winter and lighter in when I get more sunshine in the summer. So I'm hoping things will at least stay calm for me for the season! I truly appreciate your well wishes :)

    You are doing great! Beautiful new space, meds that work, building a “deadlines” plan for running a calm business! thanks for sharing. i have had chronic nightmares and taking blood pressure meds has helped, i have much less panic in my physiologic response even if i have one, i dont seem to get so ramped up. looking forward to the next episode of wildly sustainable textiles and chat!

      Thank you!! :) Glad to hear that the meds helped you, too. I feel the exact same-- I still have had a couple unfortunate dreams while taking it, but so much less physiological panic when they happen. I'm getting such better sleep, and feeling way less on-edge! Thanks again for reaching out :)

    I like your bright, creative space. I’m thinking about getting one of those tables so thanks for that info.
    Nightmares are no joke. I cannot relate to the frequency that you have them but the intensity and next day struggle to get my head right, I get that.
    Sending love and prayers that you find relief from them. ❤

      Thank you! The table is awesome and has held up well, considering it's not that expensive (and even less expensive if you get it on sale or with a coupon at Joanns!). Thanks, too, for the good wishes on the nightmares... I really appreciated seeing your comment come through 🩵. The good news is that the nightmares have significantly subsided on the meds, and I'm getting such better sleep, feeling way less on-edge everyday. Whew! Hope it stays this way for a good bit :)

    Your sewing space looks great! I love that you have windows now, too! ☀️🪴I really like the little brass (?) lamp by your sewing machine. I am in the process of slowing down and doing more mindful creating. I’m also trying really really hard to get rid of no longer needed or just excess stuff so that my sewing space feels more open, tidy, and breathable. Maybe I should pretend I’m moving and that would help make decisions on getting rid of stuff easier!! I’m sorry to hear about your nightmares. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to cope with. I really hope the medication offers you relief that lasts. Hugs to you and I hope you have a great week 😊

      Thank you! I found that copper lamp at a flea market for $3!! That was when I was living in central Massachusetts, and people there had such an overabundance of cool old stuff that it was easy to find antiques for cheap! Glad to hear you're also in the process of slowing down and doing mindful creating. LOL yes, scare yourself with the though of a move, and that might help cut down 😂 Thanks for the hugs, reading this comment made me feel better when I saw it come through (and still does!). The good news is that the nightmares have significantly subsided with the meds, and I'm getting much better sleep, and feeling less on-edge! Thanks again :)

    👋 came across your linen tutorial through youtube search, trying to make a linen robe to escape the summer heat after wearing a linen toga last year, an experience that was lifechanging for me. I’m also 30, just done with a PhD in biology, have an art ig (acrylic), have recurring nightmares about going back to high school as an adult, and after a few “normal” jobs im also trying to explore different business ideas on the side. So you are def not alone. Funny how well the internet algorithm works to connect like minded people even if its only a few thousand or so of us 😳.

    Hi, Leah, moving is a huge energy sap, so give yourself a while to acclimate to your new surroundings and get calmer. I hear the stress in your voice and feel for you, Being excited for your next pattern makes me want it sooner than later, so you are right that we wait excitedly for your creative efforts to appear. But, I would rather you give a loose deadline than expecting a certain date. I like your new studio and know what you mean when you say there are downsides to a smaller space; however, more light will be mood elevating so it might work out just fine. Sending good feelings your way....

      Thank you so much for the good feelings! You are so right about the natural light being mood-elevating. And the good news is that my nightmares have signficantly subsided, so with better sleep I am feeling that much better every day! :)

    I feel like I’ve been moving for the last 2 years (I kind of have, actually) so I totally relate. Have you ever tried EMDR therapy for your nightmares? I love your sewing space! Mine is currently the box room for stuff we still need to unpack and I haven’t sewn in ages. Looking forward to getting it set up. Thanks for sharing your work!

    • @charliedarwintextiles
      @charliedarwintextiles 4 місяці тому

      Thank you for the kind words! I did briefly try a few sessions of EMDR with my therapist for some other trauma stuff, and it was... intense 😂. I got kind of spooked by it haha. Then I tried a slightly different method where you just try to rewrite the ending to your dream, right after you wake up. Then they got so bad that I said "I can't think my way out of this"! The good news is that the nightmares have signficantly subsided over the past few weeks, and I'm feeling a lot better as my sleep improves! Thanks again for reaching out about it, and as for your setting up your sewing space, YOU GOT THIS!! :)

    Do you have any recommendations for serger thread? I’m about to buy a serger (yay!) but I’m overwhelmed with the options and want something good quality and we share similar earthy values so I figured you’d have the best recommendations.

    • @charliedarwintextiles
      @charliedarwintextiles 4 місяці тому +1

      That is a YAY moment! And your question comes at such an interesting time because I've been strongly considering switching from polyester serger thread to cotton. TBH I honestly started out with some random brand of polyester serger thread because my mom gifted a ton of it to me-- no other reason besides that! I wish I could give you more of a solid recommendation, but I'm honestly a little bit in the same boat as you! Once I pick one that I like, I will try to include it in an upcoming YT video!

      @@charliedarwintextiles Gotta use what you have first! I have heard mixed reviews of how cotton may lead to more lint built up within the machine and possible shrinkage of the serged garment (idk if that’s true or not or if it depends on the brand). I ended up just getting some maxi lock serger thread just so I can start serging right away when it comes in the mail and I’m so excited!! I’m already subscribed so I’m definitely following along your journey and I’m excited to see what you find!

    Good morning Leah, Pam here writing from PIttsburgh. Ive been taking in many of your videos since your move and have not had a chance to write... but I'm one of those viewers out there in your UA-cam Universe. So first a few comments on the past... my favorite is dropping your PhD program it was very telling on some very important issues. Also your reflections to the animal world and capitalism all really great stuff. I recently watched the Icarus Films series on Capitalism via Hoopla - you might find it interesting-ill put a link below. Thank you for sharing the great tips from where you buy your fabric to the source for your labels the white board system and how you are thinking about business planning, equipment strategy, exploring business coaching etc. I have listened now even to a little of the "Growing Steady" podcast and tried the app notion. The one video when you go into the potential stalker had me cracking up, laughing hard I knew you were half serious but a little joking too.. so funny. It has all been enjoyable listening and I have not yet started the sewing lesson videos which I need most- hope to get there some day. But as for today's video it reminds me of when I once moved into an old house. I had called someone for assistance and some guy met me at my new home and when he got inside he stopped still for a bit and reflected on the space and just took it all in - he said very seriously "Every house has a story to tell"...and just quietly reflected in the space. So my advice is to take time to settle in your new space (and community) enjoy this moment. Get situated and explore.

      Hi Pam! I'm so glad you finally reached out to say hello! Thanks so much for the vote of confidence on it all-- and I'm definitely going to check out Icarius Films series (I kind of wish I had this while taking an almost incoherent class on neo-liberalism last semester)! And so glad you gave "Growing Steady" and Notion a try. I've actually thought quite a few times this week about your advice on taking a moment to 'take it all in' at the new space... I do love an old house, and I imagine there are so many stories to tell in a city this old! Thanks so much for reaching out, I hope you continue to do so! :)
