It's great to see the Solar Hunter getting a source of healing. As the enemies in encounters become more omnipresent, the days of being able to duck into cover to catch your breath are over. Higher difficulty activities require a source of healing, overshield, or invisibility in order to survive them.
@@Just_Lionz even in GM, 100 resil can't help against half of the targets that 1 shot you no matter what. It really only helps against trash tier mobs. That's why depending on my setup I'll go with 8 or 9 if it means I get a different stat higher that I'd use more or benefit more from. If I get hit by a 1 shot enemy, that's my fault and I'd die no matter what my resil was.
Shooting for 100 res always feels kinda bad on Hunter when that means taking a significant amount of points away from your class stat. Don't get me wrong, I do it anyway because the benefits are just so good right now, but I always hate how my mobility is an afterthought in literally every build just because the damage reduction is so strong it suffocates any variety.
I’m honestly so so so so happy I found your channel man. The quality of your videos is through the roof not to mention the builds being incredible. You’ve become my go to channel for builds. Keep up the great work
One suggestion here too is that you can use Ember of Char - it applies scorch after ignitions to enemies nearby and also to the enemy that you ignited it it didn’t die to the ignition. That means you can hit them with a tripmine + knife for the ignition, the ignition gives you energy and also scorches the target so you just need to hit them with another tripmine for another ignition. It creates a loop where you are getting tripmine, ignition, tripmine, ignition, and the tripmine + ignition is equal to enough energy to refund back a tripmine, infinite loop. Don’t even need your knives after the first toss
Ditto, I’ve used 3 different tripmine builds and this one wrecks. Running tripmines without the fragment that buffs your scorch stacks can leave you hanging if you miss a grenade or knife. I also stacked bountiful wells with elemental ordnance x3 and well of ordnance so getting a grenade kill spawns 4 solar wells and each well restores about 15% of ability energy, now combine that with the 33% return from exotic ahamkara spine and the grenade uptime becomes 100%. You don’t need knife trick for infinite grenades, but if you miss or a teammate kills your target knife trick will help you get to your next grenade.
@@DUBC_OG_610 Explosive knife is also good because the hit of the knife and then the delayed explosion both count as separate “ability” ticks towards grenade regeneration. And it can be thrown from further away than knife trick. Doesn’t scorch though. But if you are running Char then you don’t need your knife to loop infinite grenades since you’ll be popping an ignition in between every tripmine just from the grenade. The knife just sets up the first one.
@@erictheklein3774 right now I use Singeing, Torches, Ashes, Solace and Char usually. Will have to see how all the new fragments play before deciding on a new setup. You can probably replace Singeing with one of the new ones since the knife is less important so gamblers dodge isn’t as needed.

I've been running a similar build with this ever since the YAS was revamped ages ago now. This is my favorite solar exotic ever. Glad to see you cover it. There's many successful variants of this build available to play around with if people want to experiemnt, some more successful than others, mind you I do love the challange of more limited fragment slots yet running gunpowder gamble, it really makes you pick your fragments more carefully and push your armor mod - but the additional ignition on toss can be really fun to use. Looking forward to experimenting with build crafting on this once Lightfall hits, as well as seeing your update!
running two solar hunter builds, one with YAS and one with Caliban's. It ALL depends on how I want to spend my time. From the knowledge that I have acquired from the playbook guides in the past I am SO looking forward to this when I wake up
I already have been running this build since solar 3.0 but I love watching your build videos. You are by far the best build maker on UA-cam. I always learn something new despite knowing about these builds before hand. 👍
I'm so glad to see this build get to more people. I stumbled on this build about 2 seasons ago, and it has become my go-to hunter ever since. Things like Incandescent or a Monte Carlo insure even more smooth operation of abilities, if needed. I can't wait to be able to get regen on this build in Lightfall.
Hi, me and my friend been maining this build ever since solo hunter caretaker being done for the first time. The best tip for this build is to wait for the ignition to proc before throwing your grenade as the ignition will prevent the ability regeneration by blowing up the trip mine. Also for dps monster going for energy converter with double dynamo allows u to get your super every 25 sec~. Pair this with rockets witherhoard and auto lauding gl allow u to 2 phase the ogre in goa.
I've always been a huge lover of this build, I love doing the infinite combo its so satisfying, and I'm so glad to see it covered on your channel as I've loved seeing all the other build videos too.
At first I was thinking, why would you use this over Caliban's, but I realized duh, this is significantly better for *single target* dmg, but that's fuckin awesome since in either single or add clear you can literally just hot-swap them depending on your content..absolutely nuts
A good tip for anyone interested in running this is that weapons can be easily added into the ability rotation. Single-shot, auto-loading weapons such as rocket launchers, grenade launchers and Demolitionist weapons specifically do wonders. One particularly good setup during this season is the Roar of the Bear rocket from Iron Banner, but another fantastic combo coming in lightfall will be Witherhoard, Ikelos SMG and Hothead thanks to how font of might is being reworked to allow any damage type to be bolstered through mods rather than subclass-specific. Even more so thanks to voltshot's jolt rounding out the anti-champion capabilities of the solar build.
I usually never comment on UA-camrs video but your video are so well worth the like, comment, and subscription!! Keep up the great vids man, and so excited to see the builds you put out for light fall!! Also I think literally the best think you do is the link to DIM 100/10 !
Yeah this build was so much fun when I used it during Season of the Haunted to do Containment events that I had to take off the Omni and now it's quickly becoming my #2 Subclass waiting for the Fragments changes and additions in Lightfall that I feel so confident going into the Campaign with it for Solo Legendary!!!!
Great video as always. I've been running this exact build since mid solar 3.0 season. I too used to run bolstering detonation and focusing strike but it's not realistic/feasible for GMs because that's unfortunately where your champion mods go. Bungie really didn't want people using solar this season, so no class item mods allow you to stun any champ of any kind with solar grenades or melee (only arc, void, and stasis iirc). That means that unless you're running an artifice armor and aren't spending any mod slots to boost stats or font of might/high energy fire, or CwL mods, you won't be able to stun champs except with exotics that intrinsically stun champs.
I've been using this build for a while and has been the main build on Hunter. I don't run the same fragments and aspects, running the Gambler's Grenade instead for addclear and lower level content since each explosion will also refresh the grenade and can even be refreshed instantly if you get enough kills with it. Also, running Traveler's Chosen can be a good backup as it will "store" stacks you can use to refresh your abilities, if you ever end up out of loop.
Even tho Witherhoard is excellent for boss dps with an auto-loading rocket and the constant ability spam, I might consider Traveler’s Chosen actually. That gun is definitely a sleeper pick!
I gotta say As a hunter 1 trick and long time destiny player . I don't typically directly learn anything from these videos . however they are absolutely impeccable for sharing with my friends who aren't as deep into the build crafting rabbit hole . Your videos explain things about 1000x better than I ever could . thanks for making these videos :)
This is awesome it's the first video that I've been able to actually follow on how to lay out things and then how to rotate through the abilities in maneuvers I'm going to check your stuff hopefully you've done it for the Titan and the Warlock on other builds nonetheless thank you great job
Just came across your site. Took a long layoff and came back for Lightfall. The builds generally confuse me yet your guide helps a lot. Makes me want to switch to hunter now, maybe. Liked and Subbed.
Just in case you're trying to work around some fragments to try slot in gunpowder gamble or try other fragments, the necessary fragments (in order) are, torches ashes and singeing
Been running spine for years and settled on basically the same build when Solar 3 came around. I’d recommend Melee Wellmaker and Hands On instead of Ordnance and Ashes though, since your melee is a much more spammable ability, even with the high uptime of your Tripmines. But if you’re keen on Grenades spending Wells, Explosive Wellmaker is just better since ignitions can spawn them too. Also, Ember of Char can apply scorch stacks to the surviving target to cause another ignition with a single grenade. Though this isn’t as important, since you wanna maximize your dodge regeneration to cycle your knives. Running Focusing and Bolstering is absolutely the move, but having single/double Perpetuation in the class item helps massively when you’re not using Artifact mods. Once Lightfall drops, your core is gonna be Torches, Ashes, and Singeing, with probably Mercy and Empyrean, and having Focusing/Bolstering with Perpetuation or their equivalents. For weapon synergies, the only thing I can recommend is a Demo breech GL, since you can add it into your dps chain very easily.
Great video I love the entire breakdown. Quality of the video was very nicely delivered. I subscribed and liked and looking forward to more of your videos. Thanks for sharing.
I personally used 1 elemental ordinance, 1 melee well maker, 1 elemental charge, 1 well of life, and heal thyself for survivability. Basically picking up a well grants me immediate healing as well as making me charged with light. And I get instant health from heal thyself when I throw my trip-mine when charged with light
I really have been enjoying the build. The gameplay loop is fun and extremely satisfying when you melt a yellow bar with a perfect combo. That said, it desperately needs the healing it's set to receive with Lightfall. Too many times in higher level content or even ad-dense mid level content I'd just get wrecked due to the nearly non-existent healing. Could also be that I'm used to running Caliban's Hand and popping a restoration grenade when I'm in a sticky situation. Here's to hoping Lightfall brings it all together for this build, because it's got a lot of promise.
Hunter has infinite healing already… it’s just a different style build. Healing Grenade. Just use it, the aspect that extends duration and the one that extends duration when you kill something with a solar weapon. Then if that’s not quite enough (because it’s usually run with Star Eater Scales for DPS) the run it with Assassin’s Cowl because as long as you kill something with a melee you have infinite melee.
@@amorfati4927 I am well aware of how to use healing nades. Maybe I should have specified YAS hunter in my original comment, but having to use your grenade as the only way to get healing on Solar hunter limits the subclass a lot. Now I can actually use the exotic I like and have a form of healing.
I love the fact there's still videos being put up on solar hunter. Only think i wish is that they'd add other exotics or perks to make other solar grenades and solar melee better. Like swarm grenade and the lightweight knife cause they hardly get used
I’ve been using this kind of build since solar 3.0 first dropped. Always said that it’s amazing for everything. Can’t wait to see more people try it out and fun with it.
Yup. Multiple people have been using this or something close to it, including a few posting videos, but what I think is most useful here is that Mac lays out a blueprint for it, the rationale so its understood how and why it works (versus showing only game play) and then a roadmap for tactics of play. I'm sure we can all agree, that's where the amazing value comes into play.
one thing i would recommend adding (before lightfall) is the charged with light mod, heal thyself. you also need solar for this to work so it fits in with the build well.
In Lightfall you can also pair this with One Thousand Voices, as it will also apply scorch stacks to targets. I think this build may make it a good PvE endgame option, especially since with a Chill Clip fusion, fusion mods (finder, scavenger, reloader, etc.) will pull double duty.
I'm a titan main and I convinced a friend to hop on d2. He chose hunter (wasn't surprised he's got a couple screws loose lol). I wanted to help him out but didn't know how to build a hunter so I ended up making one too and so glad xur is selling those gloves with decent stats today theyve boosted my blueberry companion ten fold. Im actually finding hunters to be fairly enjoyable, never thought I'd see the day this would happen
I tried this build once, but it only lasted for a few hours. Mostly because I wasn’t exactly sure what I was doing. So I appreciate the breakdown and looking forward to those strand build.
I personally like gunpowder gamble since its added damage into the rotation plus it counts as an ability further adding to the loop, also bcuz its a cool ability all things considered, i like to run DMT with these as well so i can basically be a destiny version of my favorite overwatch hero ashe lol
Have you experimented with acrobats dodge? It deals damage on landing, which can give that last 1/3 grenade energy. So the rotation would be tripmine > acrobat > tripmine > knives > tripmine. I think there are ignitions in there as well that can change that order. Need to run high strength tho for dps phase
seems to be slightly better 1 rotation damage but at the cost of not being able to extend it further with dodge>melee combos. you'd need a way to refund or generate a ton of melee energy, and melee kickstart can only get you so far
I really wanna run this with gunpowder gamble like i did when solar 3.0 just dropped, but gunpowder gamble gives you so little fragment slots that you can barely do anything with ur build.
personally what i use is a little different when it comes to mods but everything else I use: I use 2 elemental ordinance with 1 explosive wellmaker (for a total of 5 elemental wells when getting a multi kill with your grenade) with well of life and ashes to assets and of course bountiful wells. The definition of glass cannon.
Really really hoping they increase the number of fragments you can use. I love the gunpowder gamble aspect (as long as it doesn’t kill me) but 3 fragments is nowhere near enough for any of these changes 🤞🏻
Torches, ashes char (singeing and solace for OYM) MAX MOB (2) MAX RESIL (1) Recovery wanted but not needed, hard to build with max mob/res Ignore discipline Focus intelect (ignore if using font of wisdom) maximise strength to fullest (3) Ashes to assets Bolstering detonation (x2/bolstering melee) Focus on stats+combat Focus on stats+combat, absolution/insulation X2 utility kickstart Font of might Well of life Time dilation Melee wellmaker Grenade wellmaker / font of wisdom Witherhoard Demo + lasting impression Roar of the bear Recommended : calus mini tool, retraced path
Do you think it would make more sense to run Explosive Wellmaker instead of an extra Grenade Wellmaker? If you add a Melee Wellmaker for the 5th, you could end up with 4 wells on kill
As a PvP main. I can attest to this build. Went flawless in solo trials last week. Swapped out for proximity knife though. And used an adrenaline junkie weapon. For you PvE guys who bedgrundingly play PvP. Highly recommend
Definitely a great build. I’ve been stuck on the arc liars handshake build lately. Using ikelos smg with healing burst on warmind cells and then melee wellmaker with ionic melee. So my guns slap and can heal me and my melee also slaps and can heal me. Running it with 100 discipline too so I always have nades. It’s pretty busted.
Use utility kickstart instead of bomber. The energy from bomber overflows. And dodge is more valuable since it basically give you back melee and melee gives back grande. Melee grande combo gives back another grande. Therefore dodge = 1 melee 2 grande
at 1:16 i noticed restoration x2 was active. is that just old footage or is there something i missed that allows hunters to get that buff currently? i’ve only known of being able to get restoration 1

I can’t wait to see your new strand builds and the update of your past builds I have made many of them and love them!
Solar hunter, already can't wait to try it out!
FYI Xur is selling Young Ahamkara's this week for those that don't have them :)
You are the single greatest PvE build-tuber in the D2 community. Can't wait to see what you do with strand.
Really great break down. Thank you and word up.
How do you not have more subs? Seriously amazing and well explained. Thank you
I really have been enjoying the build.
Just got back into playing with your hunter stasis build. Definitely going to be giving this a try come light fall, thanks!
Your tutorials are the best on UA-cam!!! Thank you
Not having healing has been the only reason I haven’t used solar hunter as much. I’m so excited for Lightfall
Like swarm grenade and the lightweight knife cause they hardly get used
It's all the same build since the first day of Solar 3.0 rework. People just copying each other since Solar Hunter has 1 exotic and 1 build
loved the live graphics showing off the ability rotations
I’ve been using this kind of build since solar 3.0 first dropped. Always said that it’s amazing for everything. Can’t wait to see more people try it out and fun with it.
Yup. Multiple people have been using this or something close to it, including a few posting videos, but what I think is most useful here is that Mac lays out a blueprint for it, the rationale so its understood how and why it works (versus showing only game play) and then a roadmap for tactics of play.
I'm sure we can all agree, that's where the amazing value comes into play.
@@OniNoFro Very true. I can agree with that
this build is so much fun. Thank you. i’m already subscribed brother.
one thing i would recommend adding (before lightfall) is the charged with light mod, heal thyself. you also need solar for this to work so it fits in with the build well.
Tried the build tonight, EPIC! Thanks! What guns do you prefer to use with this build?
Great content keep up the good work, it's good to have a consistent destiny 2 UA-camr that also has good quality vids.
This is basically my solar hunter build. Appreciate the information for the upcoming changes in Lightfall. 👍🏼 Thanks
In Lightfall you can also pair this with One Thousand Voices, as it will also apply scorch stacks to targets. I think this build may make it a good PvE endgame option, especially since with a Chill Clip fusion, fusion mods (finder, scavenger, reloader, etc.) will pull double duty.
Monte Carlo too
It can fully recharge your melee abilities with every kill
I'm a titan main and I convinced a friend to hop on d2. He chose hunter (wasn't surprised he's got a couple screws loose lol). I wanted to help him out but didn't know how to build a hunter so I ended up making one too and so glad xur is selling those gloves with decent stats today theyve boosted my blueberry companion ten fold. Im actually finding hunters to be fairly enjoyable, never thought I'd see the day this would happen
I've been waiting for Mactics to do this video for so loooong. Legitimately since solar 3.0 launched. Nobody does these type vids quite like he does.
Can't wait to try this when I get off work!
This will be a great build! Right up with healing from arc hunter!
i already love young grenade build but this. this is just on another level
I don’t know why but nailing knife head shots and making enemies unicorns is some of the most fun in destiny. Can’t wait for this one.
Sick build! Thanks for the content!
personally what i use is a little different when it comes to mods but everything else I use: I use 2 elemental ordinance with 1 explosive wellmaker (for a total of 5 elemental wells when getting a multi kill with your grenade) with well of life and ashes to assets and of course bountiful wells. The definition of glass cannon.
I got the arms t drop for me yesterday so I didn’t have to go find some in the tower :)
If you would like for the class item you could also run 2x utility kickstart for class ability energy when it’s empty :)
Great vid! What song is playing in the background?
Really really hoping they increase the number of fragments you can use. I love the gunpowder gamble aspect (as long as it doesn’t kill me) but 3 fragments is nowhere near enough for any of these changes 🤞🏻
Fr, I wish they just scrapped the slots bc it's so unnecessary for buildcrafting
Excellent video very detailed and informative keep it up bro!
Torches, ashes char (singeing and solace for OYM)
MAX MOB (2)
MAX RESIL (1)
Recovery wanted but not needed, hard to build with max mob/res
Ignore discipline
Focus intelect (ignore if using font of wisdom)
maximise strength to fullest (3)
Ashes to assets
Bolstering detonation (x2/bolstering melee)
Focus on stats+combat
Focus on stats+combat, absolution/insulation
X2 utility kickstart
Font of might
Well of life
Time dilation
Melee wellmaker
Grenade wellmaker / font of wisdom
Witherhoard
Demo + lasting impression Roar of the bear
Recommended : calus mini tool, retraced path
ty for this build sir. left you a like for it. keep up the good work
I never tried YAS since im usually running a Void/Arc Hunter, but ill definitely giving it a go once Lightfall drops.
This build has been my go-to since season 17. Just all kinds of fun
Mactis, will you revisit this when Lightfall drops because of the changes to elemental wells and quite a few mods?
Good work on the vids mate, very well made 👍
Definitely a great build. It’s pretty busted.
why are you using liar's
will you be making an updated DIM link / video for this build?
is there any restoration coming with this build?? did i miss the healing part??? other than that it definitely slaps
thanks for all the hard work mactics. keep it up!
What about Ember of Empyrean? Solar kills extend Radiant and Restoration, and seems like it would synergies nicely with this build
Use utility kickstart instead of bomber. The energy from bomber overflows. And dodge is more valuable since it basically give you back melee and melee gives back grande. Melee grande combo gives back another grande.
Therefore dodge = 1 melee 2 grande
Is knockem down Blade Barrage better than outlaw golden gun to spam grenades with?
TY... I am trying this out, right now!
at 1:16 i noticed restoration x2 was active. is that just old footage or is there something i missed that allows hunters to get that buff currently? i’ve only known of being able to get restoration 1
This would be FIRE with monte carlo
Just tried this build in warden of nothing, works great, can’t wait to bully unstops with the ignitions next season
You now have my Sub. Keep up the great work.
I know its 1 less fragment but i have been having a ton of fun with gunpowder gamble. I never even noticed it until recently but super fun to play.
so now that LF is out, the few well maker mods that you listed that have been removed what are good replacements
Thanks for making all these builds I have enjoyed play with a lot of them ❤ see you in Strand
My god, this one with the Fusion w/ Chill Clip is going to be amazing for GM's!!!
Gunpowder gamble is cool for ad clearing even in GMs, dont sleep on it
This is the main build I rock, I wonder how much better this will be over mine. Let’s go mactics #huntersmasterrace
How good is it on gms?
@@LR17-K not very i wouldn't expect
