Thanks man, you are both wise and perceptive, I don’t script my adventures as I want my viewers to see life through my eyes as it unfolds, much more true to life. 👍
Thanks very much for your inspiring video Dave . So grateful for your efforts. Te Aroha is my favourite area to hike and explore, and this adventure looks great after lockdown rules end..for this outdoor enthusiast Aucklander.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. I think the hut has been done up since but maybe not so the track - that said I like it wild and remote - less people around. Did you walk over Te Hanga ridgeline back then or come in fron the north?
@@OutdoorsmanDave The hut was freshly renovated when I was there, new deck, tank etc, it was night three from Old Kaimai Road, west Henderson, night at Hurunui Hut, Puketutu Hut, then Kauritatahi but I used the current North - South, not keen to go over the top on my own. It is on the to do list.
@@joehiker8114 Joe, feel free to DM the answer but what’s the deal with staying at Puketutu, who do you need to ask permission from if any please? Any room for tents?
Appreciate that, the roar is over so let’s get this plan locked down, hear from you soon. Please DM further correspondence ( FBook messager works for me) 👍
Hi Dave, thanks so much for doing these videos. We are about your vintage, but not so fit. Its great to see the problems you solve. Like your 'SoloHike gone wrong" - so that is what paracord is for - not just a trendy thing. Or the use of the whistle when you are locating your mates. And appreciate when you tell us you are feeling tired, we can gauge how tired we would be at the same point. We really appreciate you videos... keep going! Reminds us of the definition of an adventure: something you don't enjoy at the time.
Crickey, Pen that’s extremely generous of you and very much the encouragement required. In time I’ll recreate my worst experience 2 years ago when a one hour bush walk at 7pm before dinner, resulted in an return home at 7am the next day. It’s called hypothermia, what a miserable way to die!
Nice work. Great banter and you can see how much you get on with each other which makes for a fun trip. Im pretty sure thats further than my old legs could take me in a day!
Thanks Peter. Id like you to join the team, but we do lean towards the extreme (G & I did a 15 hour hike once but we try and keep it now under 8). DM me with what youre up for and Ill try and accomodate.
Hi friends, sorry it's been a while. I've been working 80+ hours per week over the last month with my day job and a rental reno so I'm a bit time-poor but I worked late last night to get this out for your lockdown viewing pleasure. Stay local, stay safe and stay kind, Dave.
Thanks Maarten, your feedback is appreciated. Send me a Facebook invite if you want to DM. Fitness and route finding conference is required. In part 2 we take you down to the crash site.
Awesome Dave. I've heard about that route from the lakes. Looking forward to seeing the route down to the crash as I didn't make it on my visit to Kauritatahi. Terrible disaster to read about. How's the condition of the old NS track climbing up around Ngatamahinerua now? I remember minimal marking and super overgrown. Cheers
Thanks your time to watch and comment. I think we portrayed how hard the track was in the vid, overgrown but enough markers. We take you to the trig & crash site in part-2 but that video is a way off as my housing accomodation business is taking up my hobby time, especially so as I’m the everything tradie in lockdown 🤣
I like her organic and raw your non-scripted videos are. And I love the car door scene.

Thanks Stephen, pity you are in AK I was just going to invite you into the Kaimais this weekend for an overnighter.
You're game drinking that whisky! Looking forward to part two.
That's what people think of me drinking from streams but spirits kill bugs ;-)
@@OutdoorsmanDave Hehe, that's if it was spirits!
I did the Kauritatahi track shortly after it had been cleared about 12 years back, was a great trip. Not had any maintenance since.

Thanks Greg, seems there a few waiting for it, I’m plugging away each night at it.
Good to see you back Dave, dishing up a good range of backcountry tips, local stores and wild adventures. Thank you.
Thanks Barry, yes there was a few hours of research involved in this story. Congratulations again getting to the starting line, I’ll join you soon.

Kauritatahi is the last Kaimai hut on my list to visit - I enjoyed this.
Thanks Jason, Id be interested to know all the ones you have done, feel free to DM via Facebook.
I love how his mate had to go back for the camera
Hey Simon, thanks for dropping by, I missed you, it’s been a while? What are hiking buddies for if not to pick up my camera 🤣

Very nice Dave. I definitely need to do more exploring in the kaimais.
Cheers
Thanks Zeb, where are you actually based, Pirongia?
Enjoyed your journey , love the Kaimais on our back door 🙏
Graham and I certainly put in the hard yards to showcase the ranges in this one. Did you know about flight 441?
@@OutdoorsmanDave yes I did, have lived BOP since mid 60 s 😀 keen tramper too

Hi Dave, I’m a recent subscriber loving the content. I wondered what map software you’re using on your phone in this vid. Cheers mate
Welcome onboard. I use MapToaster but I don’t think it’s that great because it doesn’t show the direction I’m heading
Hilarious, drive up he says !
Haha
