    Thank you for your video. I currently have a relative doing this hike. Watching your video gives me an idea of what she will be doing and seeing each day. I appreciate that you have plenty of times when the video is silent apart from bird sounds.

    Never knew the Kaimais are so epic, and its right on my door step. How is the hunting up there?

      Hey, definitely worth checking out if you're local. Not as epic as further south but a good network of tracks and huts. I'm no hunter but have spooked deer a few times, both in the Wairere Falls area. Funny I was just watching one of your Kaimanawa videos as I just visited Thunderbolt myself. Cheers man

    mate, epic video. Are those bedrocks on your feet? Watching your shots is like looking at my own feet. I live in my bedrock sandals and people always have something to say about them! I'd love to have a chat about your tramping expeditions, get an idea of where's good in your opinion. I'm a brit recently moved to Tauranga and looking for some great trails.

    Very impressive, 5 days of graft packed into 35 minutes of pure quality. Love the plant info you give along the way, and the decision making, having a plan an then being flexable to alter it to suit the needs. The mixture of hut and camp is great, the tarp setup was simple yet effective. You really do film what I like to see, the detail, the damp, the mud, the clearings, the flora, very rare find the Kauri and the Beech, didn't know about their range limits so that was quite interesting. The last hut is awesome, colourful, and the rain , for me personally I thourouly enjoyed this video, thanks a lot, cheers, Chris.

    Great photography. One of the reasons I enjoy your videos is because of your interest in flora and fauna, and not simply showing the progress from points A to B. With all the stream crossings and mud wallowing you had to do I can understand your use of sandals although my toes curl from the imagined feelings of sticks and stones that must work there way under your feet! Thank you for the effort to film and edit.

      Thanks so much Robin. I'm learning all the time. Even on this trip I was surprised at what I saw. Surprisingly very little debris actually gets stuck under my feet. Most of it gets shaken out from walking a few further steps. Definitely worth the energy savings against boots on this particular trip I'd say. Don't worry, I make these mostly for my own fun to look back on myself!

    Nice looks like a fun track to get away from the city noise! Figured not many deer that way but looks like a fair few left :)

      Thanks for watching! To be fair I can't remember the last time I saw deer in the Kaimai until this. Of course I'm no hunter, mostly keeping to tracks and not the stealthiest but they're definitely in there. Cheers

    Really enjoyable watch, love hearing the nature sounds but also the music too. I know you get asked a lot about tramping in sandals, I saw just awhile ago shoes that are like feet and was curious if you had tried them?

    Well done Jesse it’s a pretty long haul that one, I was thinking about doing it again but your video reminded me how ordinary the views are. Looks like you’re packing light, how heavy? Are you not heating food? Impressive flora comprehension, do you teach?

    • @ReviloNZwalks
      @ReviloNZwalks  4 роки тому +4

      Many thanks Dave. Haha yes, there's better tramping to be had but I still really enjoyed it. I didn't weigh my pack but it would have been my lightest base weight yet, although I still had everything I needed and the same spare clothes I carry in winter etc. I went stoveless this time as an experiment for possible future long distance trips. I have casual work as an outdoor instructor where I usually pass on a bit of my knowledge depending on the lesson!

    That was a sick video bro! Looked like a great time. I was gonna ask how you were getting your water but then I saw you filling up out of the stream and was like, well, I guess that answers my question! How was the cold soaking?
    I've only ever done day hikes in the Kaimais, and was wondering if you could recommend a good overnight hike to do.
    Cheers bro.

    • @ReviloNZwalks
      @ReviloNZwalks  4 роки тому +4

      Many thanks bro. Yeah no issues finding water with streams and huts. It was fine considering I was on a mission, but for most people there's plenty of other ways to cut weight/bulk before going cold. For hut stays I'd recommend Te Rereatukahia, Daly's, Hurunui and maybe Mangamuka via Te Tuhi. My top camping recommendation would probably be the unofficial Waitawheta campsite at the old hut site. Otherwise there's countless spots you could just set up. Plenty of cool little clearings north and south of Hurunui hut
