I'm jealous! Gene, I always look forward to your videos. It's not always about catching. It's your enjoyment being out! I grew up in Deer Park, lived in Orting for 7 years, and fished the west side as much as possible. Still make it to the Cowlitz and Westport on occasion. I think it's time.
Must be nice the state allows yall to fish, area 9 got a total of 3 days of an opener all the while area 6 35 miles, away gets 6 weeks an a 2 fish per day limit. Not to mention the amount of stress an just shit show it is for those 3 days, it completely takes the fun out of it. For almost 30 years it has been a non stop battle just to be able to go fish for kings with my dad like i got to when i was just a little kid. I am so disgusted an upset over all of it, he is 74 years old now an im running out of time to go fishing with my dad. There are more fish out there then ever before the state just wont anyone fish for them. Area 9, area 7 no king fishing aloud, it is total BS!!!
@@justinrutledge6090 I agree. It's a mess. But... Westport is the one saving grace for a good quality fishing experience. I know all too well what you mean about your dad and time.. thanks for watching. I appreciate it.
Yeah it’s absolute BS about Puget Sound as there is so many fish around too. My home town a little north of you is shut down April, May and June which is our peek season. Still don’t have it as bad as you guys do though.
35 miles is nothing. Make the drive and go fishing. We drive anywhere from 2.5 hours NW to fish Astoria to 2 hours NE to fish the mouth of the Klickitat. The shortest drive we ever get to make to fish for salmon is 30 minutes and that's only a couple weeks out of the year. You've got to be mobile and follow the fish.
@younggunz20 so your telling someone who's 41 who grew up fishing 10 minutes from the boat launch that I shouldn't complain or bitch about the fact that for almost 30 years we've had extremely little to almost know king fishing season? An finally in the last 3 years it went from, 14 days to 8 days to 4 days!!! Just the simple fact that they can have an area that close for 6 weeks with a 2 fish per day limit an area 9 an 7 which borders it got 4 days each this year is CROOKED AS HELL!! If you can afford to drive all over the place an go fishing an have a big enough boat to do that, that's great, that 35 miles is on the water, it would be a ferry ride an "x" amount of miles past that plus camping or somewhere to sleep.. me personally, I'd like to be able to fish where I was born an raised, where I spent my childhood fishing with my dad an pop, like every single person should aloud to be..
Been since early 90’s when I fished there, green hoochie, white flasher did very well for us! Fun times.
Thank you for watching

@@stacyoberg775 better hurry kings are heading up river.
I like it that you guys slow down or stop and fight the fish. Instead of trolling them in on top of the water on fast troll.
We do slow down but we don't stop.
Way to go nice fish guys 👍
@@shawngreninger3404 thank you
Thanks Gene, Bryan lives on my road and I talk to him when I have the chance.
Nice fish Gene!
Thanks 👍
That King fillet was orange-ish, and down my way, that fish had been eating squid to display that color of meat.
@@konakaffe The one last week was pale almost white meat and yesterday's was very red. That'll be in an upcoming video. Thanks for watching.
my family trying to book a salmon fishing trip up there next month in October. Any charters or events you recommend?
sorry, no
Mackerel as bait? Smoke it up and make fish spread, delicious! Especially a big thick one like that one.

@@cdro670 Thank you
Hey what lake is that?? Nice work on that king. Where's that fourth guy that used to go with you guys - the fat one??
@@Ericsson_Construction Working his butt off!
Seriously. I hate work!!
Is shore fishing good here?
@@adriannguyen1209 not really. We're 20 miles out but you can fish off the South jetty. Probably catch salmon too.
Looks like a tule
